Fair points Steve but I just don't see the point of getting so riled about it. -

Just curious.. does anyone who does not give a stella review any book written by an ex-jw have to get slated and insulted in here? Is it really that important? Have people not learned to manage rejection and non-acceptance still?
One does not also need to have had to pay for something in order to be able to review it. I have reviewed a ton of books and products that I did not buy.. ie: was given, borrowed or found.
What is it with this?:
- You did not pay me so your opinion is invalid
- You did not say nice things so your opinion is invalid.
- My friends and I will now pick you to pieces and insult and deride you publicly on an ex-jw forum.
Why not simply just ignore it? It's not like they boiled a baby in oil..
A world with just one viewpoint would be such a boring place.

My advice is carry on your studying with them.. except tell them before you do any study of the Bible.. that before you can trust and put faith in them as teachers of truth that you want to do a study of the 'Jehovah's Witness Organisation' using it's own literature.
Then come back here and we will provide you with links and printouts to practically their entire library of printed teachings going back to 1897..
Let us know how the study goes..

Like Father, Like Son
by cofty inwhen faced with awkward questions about the morality of god many christians respond by distancing themselves from the old testament and focusing on "gentle jesus meek and mild" of the new testament.. for bible-believing christians this is intellectually dishonest.. according to christian dogma jesus was the god of abraham isaac and jacob.
the logos, the alpha and omega who is "the same yesterday, today, and forever.".
he claimed that "he that has seen me has seen the father" and that "i and the father are one".. in short, christians assert that jesus is almighty god from all eternity.. it therefore follows that jesus was the god who ordered the nation of israel to take slaves as inheritable possessions.

Slimboy stop grovelling it does not become you.. it's just a forum and not a Kingdom Hall. I see people get away with murder in here because they are the chiefs favourites.. hardly fair at all so don't worry about it.
If he would kick you out after 11 years of contributing to this forum merely because you have strong feelings and simply don't agree with many of these caustic atheist bullies then maybe your talents and energies would in fact be better served elsewhere. you contribute an awful lot more than admin do that's for sure. Anyone can set up a site and 'moderate' (he get's paid too by the way).. it's the contributors that are the life blood and content of places like this. I have seen some of the greatest and most intelligent minds and contributors banned for similarly clashing, disagreeing with (or standing up to) the powers that be.
But hey it's his toy so I guess he get's to dictate who get's to play with it.
Slimboy you are valued and appreciated.. don't let anyone make you feel otherwise. -

Leaving the JWs
by Hurting ini am 32 years and have recently left the organisation.
i got baptised in last feb. please excuse any typing errors i have dyslexia.
it has been so hard this year i have gone through so many ups and downs.

Dear Hurting.. your story is not the slightest bit boring but actually very moving. I'm very saddened to hear stories like this of children not being accepted and loved for just being.
Learning to love yourself properly after the organisation has basically taught you to feel and treated you like you are useless unworthy trash is not easy but very very doable and possible. The only hard part is getting their judgmental crap out of your mind and being which takes a fare bit of conscious work.
This I know because I have had to do it myself. Just go day by day.. even hour by hour.. or even thought by thought. You are valuable and precious and amazing and worthy of love and don't ever let anyone try to show you otherwise
The place you are leaving is not and never was real.. the friendships and relationships were all fake and conditional. As soon as you get that into your head it becomes so much easier to let it all go and realise you have actually lost nothing.
You will find tremendous support and resources here. Be discerning and take what you need.. and leave the rest. -

Evolution is a Fact #26 - Colour Vision
by cofty ineach little flower that opens, each little bird that sings,he made their glowing colours,he made their tiny wings.. all of us have been moved by the riot of colours in a spring meadow, the majesty of a sunset or the beauty of a bird in breeding plumage.
what greater evidence could there be of a loving creator than our colourful world and the human eye that is equipped to appreciate it?.
this is the sort of simplistic argument that convinces a lot of creationists about their beliefs.. it's time to "unweave the rainbow".. light is detected by a proteins called opsins.

Here comes the gang..
And by the way, I can remember my childhood way back to 12 months of age - its accuracy verified by my aunt, grandmother and mother's diary.
12 months is not good enough. I even very much doubt that... you may think you can.. your memories are all selective and fragmented.
Tit bits from your childhood does not equate with being accurate as to what humans were supposedly doing 65 million years ago for goodness sake. What massive acts of faith I'm seeing displayed here.. stated with the same sure rock solid arrogant and unshakable confidence you displayed when you were all full time pioneers..
You are all still what you were.. simply wearing different clothes.

Cofty and Co.. you have no idea what my views or beliefs are as I have not stated any yet you assume I'm of a particular camp. All I have said is that people don't simply buy into your version of 'truth' merely because you write it all out so neatly with big words and big names attached.
There is no hominem attack here either as you and your Detective ally seem to think.. I just pointed out accurately that your three statements directed at me were in fact presumptuous, insulting and labelled me as ignorant (as I have seen you do in countless other threads). How does this get twisted into an ad-hominem attack for goodness sake?
Scene: You throw stones at me.. I collect stones together and ask why are you throwing these stones at me? You then accuse me of violence? WFT!?
I'm not attacking the the man.. I'm just poking and rattling the ideas that come from the man.
Anyway.. bullshit aside.. I was not refuting much.. I just have issues with the accuracy of things like '65 billion years ago humans started wearing Bermuda shorts'.. These are such incomprehensibly colossal chucks of time to be guessing things about. You say things are becoming more and more accurate but that's really still not the truth is it now, or necessarily fact either. It's just 'light getting brighter and brighter'.
And we all know where following that train of junk leads. -

Your entire response consists of three insults.. always your defence is to accuse people of ignorance.
1. Would it not be more intelligent...
2. Or do you think you know something that thousands of scientists have overlooked all these decades?
No disrespect but yes actually.. the same way I don't gullibly buy into what thousands of extremely highly educated and equally clever religious nuts have been saying far longer than your scientists I don't easily swallow what a geek in a lab coat and some letters after his name says either despite how many friends he may have.
Science has made some whopping great errors and also adhere to the 'new light' theory as much as those clowns in the other camp. The 'thousands can't be wrong' concept does not carry much weight either as thousands and even millions very often are wrong.
3. I am willing to bet you have no actual interest in knowing the facts.
Such a gamble is extremely presumptuous and ignorant but very telling.
Maybe that should be rephrased: "I am willing to bet you have no actual interest in simply swallowing my facts".
Like everyone else I would love to know the facts about everything but you simply stating they are such and labelling everyone as ignorant if they don't accept the views you promote is of really no help.
You are now on your 'Evolution is a fact No.26' and judging by the paucity of responses I'm guessing your support base either does not exist as much as you like to imagine or people simply don't buy it.
Cofty your style of preaching is always the same: "Take what I say as fact or be labelled an idiot."
How's that working out for you?
'GoodZoo'.. I'm not so good.

OKAY, GAME OVER! The number one reason the New Testament amounts to bunk
by Terry infor me, the dead giveaway is this.
jesus wrote nothing.. stop and think about that.. if jesus were the authentic messiah, his ministry would not simply be local.. his instructions, his mission, the details of his teachings would be too precious to risk leaving it in the hands of "men unlettered (illiterate) and ordinary (blue-collar yokels).".
jesus, were he the one and only hope of mankind, would be absolutely certain to write down with great simplicity and specificity the exact owner's manual necessary to rescue mankind.. never happened!.

Following the sudden demise of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago our ancestors began to thrive. Lots of vacant niches were available to be exploited including the opportunity to feed in daylight.
"This is the sort of simplistic argument that convinces a lot of evolutionists about their beliefs."
It amazes me how people can look at their watch and state with such certainty that this or that happened 65 million years ago give or take a few trillion years..
People can not even remember their own childhoods accurately yet they want you to believe and base your reality on what they say happened 65 million years ago?Let's be honest it all sounds very clever and precise but the truth is no one really has a clue and are just wildly stabbing in the dark.
