What's a word that describes the way Witnesses behave as a group?
by paul from cleveland ini can't recall the word that describes a group that keeps to itself like the witnesses do.
i thought it was "insular" but i don't think that's the one i'm looking for after reading the definition.
i remember an elder using the word "clannish" and that has the proper definition but it reminds me of a group of elves.

Richard Dawkins has had a Stroke
by cofty inhe is back home and making god progress.. he has issued an audio statement here....

Cofty: Godzoo if I heard that a mutual acquaintance had suffered a stroke I would let you know. Would you accuse me of idolatry for doing so? Dawkins is a public figure whose work has been important to millions of people including many on this forum. Why is it strange that we would comment on his stroke? Don't be so churlish.
I have seen may people have bad health reports in here and you not care a tweet. There are also thousands of people that do wonderful things for humanity yet you don't bat an eyelid if they stub their toe in the night or even die for that matter. I was just curious why this particular man gets your care and affection? Is it because he is one of the founding fathers of your view on life? If so just say so and stop pretending you have real altruism and compassion.
Good try but I am being in no way mean spirited towards Mr Dawkins and nothing in my previous comment reflected that.. It was pretty clear I was just looking at you actually.

How would you feel if this happened to you?
by Island Man inimagine you're a mentally out, physically in, awake jw who still attend meetings and occasionally do a little door-to-door perfunctory service just to please the still-in spouse and keep the elders off your back while you slowly and subtly try to free your spouse of the cult.
you're also a vociferous online critic of the jw organization and its harmful policies and false teachings.
one day while out doing your occasional perfunctory door-to-door service with a still-in jw, you knock on a door and the householder comes out and says:.

As far as I try to stretch my imagination beyond all bounds of sense and personal integrity I just can't ever imagine myself being in such a situation. There are just way too many extreme polar opposites in your opening statement that it would require a complete breakdown in one's mental well being to even contemplate half of that.

My cat died suddenly!
by Fisherman ini did not realize that they were symptoms that something was wrong with my cat -but i did notice that my cat was breathing a little differently for a period of about a few days.
i also noticed prior and after to that, that on occasion, my cat would cry at the litter box, but that was a very seldom event.. anyway, about a week ago i noticed the symptom that my very loved cat was breathing heavy.
so i called a taxi and i was going to rush him to emergency room for cats.

That's really so very sad Fisherman.. people underestimate just how close we can become to animals and the pain is multiplied unbelievably when we see them suffer. Animals are so very precious.
Really sorry for you.

to do so would be short-sighted, that they would be throwing out the baby with the bathwater
But that's just it.. there is nothing to throw out at all. There is no baby either.. not a single person can produce any kind of verifiable real relationship with either any God or his so called son. It's all just fantasy, wishful thinking and delusional imagination. Those that claimed they did have such a thing are merely antiquated stories based on thousands of years old second, third, forth and fifth hand stories. Forgive me for not wanting to base my life on fairy tales and legends.
If there is a God that deals with you on a personal day to day level then I guess your just 'special'.

Jehovah or Jesus: Who Is To Come?
by Cold Steel inone thing i've never understood about jw eschatology is how it views armageddon and the end times.
the leaders and writers have evolved in their understanding of what's supposed to happen in the timeline.
below are bible scriptures relating to biblical armageddon.

I thought that a hundred threads before this one firmly established that 'Jehovah' is a completely made up name. Yet people simply choose to forget or ignore this fact and carry on like it simply does not matter.
In that case this entire thread (which is keen to quote scholars for this and that while at the same time completely ignoring scholars on this fabricated name 'Jehovah') no longer matters either as it's plain that we are dealing with people who have no form grip on reality what so ever.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States. More than 140,000 people die each year from stroke in the United States.
Each year, approximately 795,000 people suffer a stroke. About 600,000 of these are first attacks, and 185,000 are recurrent attacks.
No disrespect and I wish the man well as I do anyone who suffers any kind of malady or illness.. but why exactly is this one special again that he merits his own personal post on the state of his health? Is he a close relative? Do I detect a mild case or personality worship? Idolatry? Fan Boy-ism?

Gay Jihadis?!
by LoveUniHateExams inapparently, aseel muthana, a yemeni-british man from cardiff, was radicalized to follow his elder brother to travel to da'ish.. he was encouraged by forhad rahman and two other extremists.
according to the gay times, muthana and rahman exchanged flirty texts, with rahman alledgedly calling muthana a welsh cutie.. when police arrested the three extremists for supporting terrorism, they tried to stop the text exchanges from being made public, out of concern for aseel muthana's safety - what with him travelling to da'ish, the possible gay nature of the texts, and da'ish's hatred for gay people.. i don't know if this is true, but it seems as if it is.
where to start?.
