Rufus: The elders rejected the letter from the Branch! What’s more, the particular viewpoint David had expressed was not even a doctrinal matter!
Interesting thread.
Out of curiousity, what was "the particular viewpoint" about?
apostacitis is a term denoting a condition with which the watchtower society has become thoroughly infected, particularly since the year 1981 when sincere christians who merely resigned from the organization over principled differences in belief became viewed the same as unrepentant wrongdoers (1 cor.
5:11) and as those rejecting the good news about the christ (2 john 9-11).
there was a time when news of one becoming an apostate was so rare among witnesses that it sent shockwaves throughout the organization.
Rufus: The elders rejected the letter from the Branch! What’s more, the particular viewpoint David had expressed was not even a doctrinal matter!
Interesting thread.

what would happen if somebody pointed a gun at you and told you what to do?.
an implied threat would motivate almost every person to do as they were told.. what about in a religious context?
what if a "gun" were pointed at members of a religion?.
You just plagiarized yourself!
Great phrase: The Shun Gun.
The incessant need for control betrays and deep-seated and profound insecurity on the part of the WT leadership.
Frankiespeakin should do one of his psychoanalytical articles on it.
if the elders united, rebelled and shut up shop - would it bring down the wt.
they 'shepherd the flock' - does that make them more accountable than anyone else for the deception and lies and trickery and deceit.. are they all non-believers who are along for the ride ?.
are they cowardly for taking a stand ?.
To add to wasblind's very thought-provoking post, note that in this instance the Faithful and Discreet Slave is really doublespeak for an abusive master.
The leaders of this religion have lost the thread and it has--as is all too depressingly common--become a destructive cult.
so ~2 years ago i left the jw cult, i had an exit talk with the elders with the reasons why and they couldn't find a reason to df me.
been happy ever since even though i went through a difficult custody and now divorce proceedings.
now all of a sudden they want to df me.
WH: Because some elders think way too much of themselves, imagining themselves as Jehu, ready to kill off all the Baal worshipers. It's both entertaining, and shocking, what some elders will do to df someone
Yeah, it's pretty weird the way some elders won't just leave people alone. They ignore people wanting help and stalk people that just want to get on with their life.
i'll call him bear, like teddy bear because he's big and nice.
bear's the coboe, an intelligent but jittery man who suffers from a host of anxiety disorders.
he 'just happened' to be driving down my street after the group, and 'just happened' to notice i was at home, tending to some animals.
It sounds like the sleeping bear may be awaking from his hibernation!
4/1/1967 wt.
for years, modern civilization has used the commercially available product known as toilet paper to cleanse one's rear posterior.
it is a common practice that has permeated almost all** of the inhabited earth.
Instead of Toilet Paper I suggest using WT and Awake! magazines. At least then they'd be useful!

the catholic church, penn state, and of course, the watchtower have lied, covered up, and tried to spin their way out of bad pr.
in each case, the problem was institutional loyalty.
Londo111: Sounds like a mandatory read for many of us, especially at this time.
I concur

Interesting points Londo!
Have you read the book, Mistakes Were Made (but not by me), by social psychologists Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson ?
It addresses the psychological mechanisms at work in these situations.
I started a thread about it a few days ago:
Mistakes Were Made (but not by me)
i have had some "friendly" conversations with people on my coninuing fade journey.
i realize that isn't always wise, but they are all non-related to each other, and we keep it light.
even my brother got in the mix.
problemaddict: A CO made a statement to me somewhere along the lines of ... if the GB makes a mistake, he can forgive them for being wrong and correct their path, but you would be Korah if you go against them until Jehovah sets them straight.
They love that Korah narrative. It is a handy way to keep dissidents in line.
And yet, it is curiously ironic that Jesus, our role-model, was very outspoken in pointing out the hypocrisy of the legalistic religious leaders of his time.
Of course, look what that got him!

wha happened: Did u say reasoning and JW's in the same sentence?
No. I said "reasoning" and GB in the same sentence. Notice the use of "scare quotes" around the word reasoning.
