When I first read the thread title, I thought it was about an authentic new Caleb video.
What? You mean it's NOT an authentic new vid??? I'm stunned. . . and bummed out too.
while out driving in the family car, caleb and his dad have some quality time together.
caleb: no, i sure won't.. dad: why caleb?
let's go a get an ice cream cone.. caleb: oh boy.

truthseeker's fine thread got me thinking.
there are plenty of forum members from europe, australia, and latin america here.
did the book study in publishers' homes end a few years ago at the time, or near the time, that it did in america?

it's been a few years since the organization ended the book study arrangement in private homes.. gone was the last opportunity to have tea and biscuits and a natter with the friends afterwards.. do you think people regret losing the book study?
for some, it may have been the only time they were able to get some "associaton".
.
Like others here, I found the book study to be mainly good but a bit of a pain. IT WAS a pain to have to prepare (sometimes ad nauseum) the assignment, get all dressed up, travel over to the publisher's home, and at times have to quickly find someone to substitute for the reader when he'd bow out at the last minute.
One the other hand, IT WAS the best socializing at any meeting. One didn't even have to go out afterward. If you had a good host home, you could just stay and socialize. More than any other meeting the friends would let their hair down and be themselves. I found more genuine love there than at the KH. The asshole elders weren't there either and I could control what went on and do things that some of them would object to, you know, really evil things like have the brothers take their jackets and ties off after the study was over, laugh, play music, eat and drink. It was a great time to talk with the publishers, get their input and find out their needs, make plans for the future, etc. IT WAS THE MOST HUMANE MEETING BY FAR. Perhaps most important from a biblical standpoint, it was the meeting most like the way the earliest Christians met. That explains the result that it was the most loving meeting. It likely also explains why it was done away with!
In sum then, the good far outweighs the bad and thus I must agree with Watson:
As an organization, I think it was one of the worst moves the[y] have made.
Good thread, truthseeker!
i was in my company vehicle and i spotted some jw's going from door to door.. i circled around the block and pulled over.
when they passed, i rolled down the .
window and asked the pleasant looking middle aged couple as they passed, if they were jehovah's .
Thx for sharing this. Very thought provoking...
this week our kh devoted the whole service meeting to the upcoming international convention in atlanta.
they read a 5 page letter from the branch which stated basically that we should feel priviledged to be invited to this convention.. however, many are not using the "recomended lodging list", "many hotels still have plenty of rooms available", "we must be loyal to this arrangement", (or the organization will not get their comp rooms)..
See committeechairman's post here:
for an explanation of the funding that Magwitch is asking about. It's on p. 2 at the top.
i noticed that both of franz's books were available through amazon.com in kindle format a few months back.
that no longer seems to be the case.
anyone have any knowledge as to why they are no longer available through kindle as an ebook?.
KarlOtt: look at my post two above yours.
this may have been discussed, but i just recently was told that a km this past year stated that inactive ones are now to be treated as if they are df'd.
is this so?
cynisister.
I'm sure this is some untrue rumor. Mutiple elders and publishers have tried to reactivate me, both personally and by mail. And they don't give up. Only by quietly moving was I able to stop the personal visits.
Of course, each situation is different. One factor to consider is this: from their viewpoint, do you (or any inactive one) appear as a spiritual threat to them or their "spiritual paradise"? If you are viewed as a threat, then you will be treated very diffentely from one who is just viewed as weak or "stumbled."
Double post—sorry.
Maybe they're revising or replacing it. The NWT was out of print for a long time while they were revising it. It shouldn't take as long to reivse the Reasoning book, of course.

I did a google search some weeks back and found the books downloadable free somewhere. It took a while to find them, but you could get get them again in pdf format if you persist.
