Latest article about domestic violence and abuse

about 10 minutes ago a neighbor asked me about a friend who is a witness and said at one of their church meetings it said that they can only seperate under extreme abuse not just abuse.. i have not been to a meeting in a long time and i do not know aboput this or if it is true.

does anyone know what article this was in so i can print it and give it to them.

they are highlyy upset by this and i want to stoke the fire.

This post set me to looking at a passage that in the past the borg used to use as a sort of scriptural precedent for giving permission to some sister to leave her husband. It is/was 1 Cor. 7:13, the part that says that if he is agreeable to dwelling with her, she should not leave him. What the borg did was sort of reverse the passage and say that if the man was not "agreeable to dwelling with her" by his conduct, she can leave. They especially interpreted this as applying to "apostates." They reasoned that if a man had become so spiritually threatening to her (you know, by attempting to share things like TTATT!), he was by his conduct not "agreeable to dwelling" with her, and for her own spiritual safety, and, of course under the elders' direction, she should leave him. As I recall, they also applied this passage to "extreme" physical abuse.

Now I don't know how public this all was. It may have been only in the elder's book or in KM school, etc. I just don't remember.

Anyway, the revised NWT now says "agreeable to staying," so who knows what motivated that? Maybe they're trying to extend the above application somehow??

WHAT [CURRENT] TRANSPARENCY does the WTS have? THEY would have to introduce the idea of transparency!!

Almost everything is sooooooo secret, no doubt in imitation of the ancient Israelite elders holding judicial cases publicly at the city's gates, or even in imitation of the apostle Paul (one supposed "governing body" member) rebuking Peter (another supposed "governing body" member) in a letter that circulated among the first century congregations. Yeah, right... the WTS is imitating the Bible and the first century Christians...

Is this really a place for Jehovah's Witnesses/Friends

i ask this because i was considering rejoining and the stories i have read only remind me of what was done to me.

is there any clean place to go where good people and fellowship can be had.

it sounds like maybe the people here should get together and start there own thing, like the reorganized latter day saints.

as we continue to use the revised nwt, we will no doubt find more and more changes worth noting.

several others have posted how some of freddie franz's idiosyncrasies have been removed (like 'anyone urinating against a wall' and the ever-present 'proceeded to go' instead of just 'went').

here's another: gone are the places in the proverbs where the hebrew literally says 'the innermost parts of the belly' for conveying the supposed delight of juicy morsels of gossip.

Here's another: gone are the places in the Proverbs where the Hebrew literally says 'the innermost parts of the belly' for conveying the supposed delight of juicy morsels of gossip. While they still haven't translated the passages with real meaning, that is, like those dynamic equivalent translators do, 'Gossip is so tasty—how we love to swallow it!' (TEV/GNB) or 'There's nothing so delicious as the taste of gossip! It melts in your mouth' (CEV), the revised NWT is an improvement: 'The words of a slanderer are like tasty morsels; They are gulped right down into the stomach.' That 'gulped down; helps convey the thought. Perhaps something like 'they are readily/deeply gulped down' might do the job better.

The passages are four: Prov. 18:8, 20:27, 20:30, 26:22.
