Simon, So true. I'm not reusing the "humerus" meme because I think the doctrine was truly funny. It's very sad, and there aren't enough who realize they were wrong. Even as they get older and older, they look back at some of the silly history of the current silliness -- and they seem to be able to laugh it off too easily. As long as you are always right in the present, it doesn't matter how wrong you were in the past. It couldn't have been that serious, they think.

3rdgen, It hadn't occurred to me until recently that the theme was exactly as you said: judging others WITHIN the congregation. The ad-libber didn't say "this person...was too bull-headed" but "this BROTHER." But he was only picking up on the whole theme of wondering where Brother "One-Hour" was, or where Sister "Rarely-Got-To-Meetings" was. There were three or four other names along those same lines, and I wish I could remember them.
The 1956 article is obviously a little too gleeful. It reminds me of Fred Franz who loved pushing those buttons to prove something...I don't know what. Maybe like Terry said, to get a reaction.

In the early 1950’s, therefore, the closeness of Armageddon was so sure, that the Watchtower was already discussing how they would go about handling the next big assignment, picking up bones:

In the drama, while collecting the bones into burlap sacks, Armageddon survivors wondered aloud to each other where certain other brothers were — where “Brother One-Hour” was, for example. Then a brother holding a gunny sack full of bones, throws them down saying melodramatically: “You don’t suppose??!!??….” (Other missing persons had names like “Sister Rarely-Got-To-Meetings.”) One “actor” got a big laugh by picking up an old skull with horns as he ad-libbed: “Looks like this brother died because he was too bull-headed.”

I took a break from the March 15, 2015 articles to deal with a "2014: THE YEAR IN REVIEW" type article for ad1914.com
I thought the most important events were the new financial contribution arrangements and the 1914-2014 Centennial (and the many campaigns that accompanied the centennial). But in reviewing the year, it became clear that this was no mere coincidence that the two campaigns were in the same year. The centennial was clearly meant to bolster and draw excitement for the donations. And this included a push for a "heightened" form of donations at the individual level.
It turned out to be a much longer treatise than I thought it would, so I broke it into 2 parts.

Just completed another post to the ad1914.com blog. The one with the title that starts out [1 of 6] is the last one. So now the first two on the list below are linked. The articles are likely going to be rather tedious and long. I noticed that the Watchtower's own level of explanation about previous "type-antitype" parables and narratives was very skewed toward simple ones that didn't sound too difficult (Good Samaritan) or far-fetched (Naboth's Vineyard). I am replacing these with "The Prodigal Son" and "Elijah/Elisha" because these serve as a much better representation of the "type-antitype" genre, and make a much more realistic foundation for the discussion of the 3/15/15 articles themselves.

I usually only work on behind-the-scenes projects that don't require a name or face because I'm in an odd situation with the JWs.
When Barbara Anderson brought up this idea about a site that celebrated the 100 years since 1914 ( ad1914.com ) I thought it was a great idea, especially because she had a lot of good ideas for such a site.
But I am not in a position to give out my name in any public way. Several people already know me of course, but I'm not anxious to get my experience tied to my name. Actually, I personally knew about half the people who provided experiences for AD1914. I didn't know you, but you might recall that I spoke to you on the phone and got a copy of your book: "I Wept by the Rivers of Babylon." I feel I know you pretty well now, and there was a lot in the book that we might use on the site when we get around to featuring authors of books about their JW experience.
And of course, I wished I had been able to erase my first 10 or more Gilgamesh posts, or change my name, especially after that first big argument I got into with Bill and friends. Anyway, that was my mistake. I'll learn to keep my mouth shut on certain subjects.

AD1914.com Website has about 300 Pix from Rutherford's FBI File for 1917 and 1918

it's still getting a lot of attention even though it was especially launched to make a splash for october 1 & 2. i'm currently one of the admin/editors and i have a lot more respect now for everyone who runs a website.. the purpose of the site is to continue to focus attention on the 1914 doctrine and related doctrines.
to keep getting attention there is now a facebook page and a twitter account where new updated articles are mentioned.. i don't think anyone behind the site thinks that 1914 is such an important issue when there are real issues such as "high-control," blood & medical coercion, lifestyle coercion, hypocrisy/honesty issues, child abuse, 'persons having no natural affection,' shunning, etc, and the religion has therefore become a hotbed of psychological and emotional turmoil.. but 1914 is still one of those "weak links" in the chain that has exposed the so-called "faithful and discreet slave" as dishonest, unfaithful, unwise, indiscreet, and ever unable to serve spiritual food at the proper time.. ultimately, the goal of the site will be, not to compete with other sites that have done such a great job of exposing the watch tower doctrines and practices.

Agree completely on the out-of-order problem. Haven't figured out a quick tech solution yet, except to reload them all in a different order.
In case anyone knows the answer I'll explain the tech problem. After a whole day of putting them in a pretty good order in a Flickr album along with 5 other related albums, I attached it to the WP blog behind 1914.com , and it turns out that I couldn't link to a specific album -- I can only use an RSS link to the entire Flickr Photostream. This also meant that 5 albums were intermingled. So at the last minute I just copied the "doc dump" into a new album and deleted all the other albums, the order was lost, and the only way to get the "title picture" was to reload it so it came up last.
When I get some time, I'll have to reload all of them in reverse order of the intended display.
What might also be of interest to people are the pages for about 10 other groups that were similarly targeted with the JWs, but that's a few hundred more pages with less interest to most of us.

Every month or so, we'll add a new ex-JW life experience, so if anyone here knows of additional ones to add, or has one to offer, drop a line or a comment and we'll follow up.
Parody material always gets a lot of attention, too, so we'll be looking for more material of the kind that Ann O'Maly contributed.
For today, I added about 300 pix from Rutherford's FBI file. They are not well sorted yet, and you have to know how to use flickr if you want to add comments, or view them full screen. But there's a lot of interesting stuff in there, that a lot of JWs have never seen, and the FBI sprinkled in a lot of anti-Rutherford and anti-Russell material that fits the purpose of the site.
Always looking for good ideas... So thanks in advance.
