The Natural Law fallacy and Homosexuality

there is a fallacy of logic that is so common that few people realize that it is, indeed, a fallacy of logic: the fallacy by appeal to nature.. one argument against homosexuality goes something like this:.

the natural use of the reproductive organs is obviously to make children.

using these organs in a way that cannot produce children is unnatural and thus ethically wrong.. .

I respect your position. I never looked at it from that perspective before. You made a comment I don't fully understand or agree with though. You said something to the effect that if some one rejected your sexuality they rejected you. If someone rejects my alcoholism and in love tries to show me the error of my ways, does that mean they are rejecting me? I don't think so.
People are welcome to be as gay or straight as they want to be, yes I too "have friends who are gay". I still think the bible teaches against it, and that IF one claims to accept the bible as a guide then homosexuality should be rejected as a way of life as surely as adultery or fornication or murder.
No offense to those who embrace an alternative lifestyle of any type. Just my humble opinion, that carries as much weight as everyone elses.

A Bible contradiction?

another book i am reading called "the jesus mysteries" makes this claim:.

"according to matthew, jesus is born in the reign of herod, who tries to have him killed as a baby to prevent him becoming king of the jews.

herod who died in 4bce.........luke makes a similar point of having his jesus born 10 years later at the time of the census of 6ce.".

I haven't read all the posts, so I don't know if this has been covered yet. Luke 14:26 is a case of Jewish idiomatic expressions not translating well. It should be understood as meaning we should love the Lord before all else, even at the exclusion of family if necessary. It does NOT mean hate in the sense that we use the word.

As to the census of Quirinius, there is evidence suggesting that the Q man was governor in the region twice, and that the census taken was a local one rather than a whole Roman empire one.

Let me read the rests of the posts and get back on some of them.

troubled [in need of answers]

today, i had a long, long talk with my employer.

this person is some one who can seperate work and personal things, so after feeling like i needed to talk to someone, and soon, before i crack up, i went to her and dropped the bomb.

she is not a witness, and because i cannot talk to a witness about what i have learned, for fear of the df'ing thingy, i feel safe in talking to her.

My advice to you comes as one married man to another. I was never a JW though (my wife either was or is not sure yet). Be loving, be honest. Rather than try to overwhelm her with your truth about the truth, just let her know that there are biblical reasons for your doubts. Quote the Society's line about those who just quit the religion (no DA letter, and DON'T attend a judicial committee). Quote her the bit about how even DFing doesn't break family ties. Assert that you are still her head in Christ (lovingly). maybe eventually pay a visit to the Elders individually and let them know if they counsel her to either leave you or shun you in any way they will be sued for alienation of affection. If and when she wants to discuss the issues then discuss them. You leaving the Society is NOT a scriptural grounds for divorce. KEEP LOVING HER. Take her out a lot (as much as you can, even if it's just for walks in the park). Find a way to make her jealous of her time with you. Just some thoughts

The Catholic Church does more in ONE DAY to assist the poor than the WTBTS does in a year. GEEKS! Geeesh.
The WTBTS should shut up, their yearly budget is FAR Larger than the Vatican's mere 200,000,000. And the Vatican only recently started operating out of the red.

i couldn't stay away.

i love you guys.. abaddon's and ldh's recent posts hit close enough to home that i decided to post again.. i think the selected memory and split personalities go hand in hand.. the selected memory helps keep the cult personality happy and gleaming no matter what damage the suppression does to the real human or the real human's family and friends.. a couple of years ago i was talking about my childhood with my parents and they both acted stunned when i said i was still angry with them because they didn't want me to go to college (i gave up several scholarship offers, etc.

to become a pioneer and eventually go to bethel).

Demons / Urban Legends! Which Is It????

i have heard demons talked about for years, however i have never known anyone that has had any real experiences with them, i have only heard storys.. .

Bruce (144,000) has passed on

i found this notice posted on h20 this morning:.

on wednesday, may 9 at approximately 5:00 p.m.

e.s.t., bruce passed away peacefully with loving family by his side.

Thanks for the info. "Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of all His people." Bruce will be missed as he is recieved not by 144,000 fallen angels, but the host of the Glory of the Lord.

You said something interesting, you mentioned not having trust in religion at all now.
This is a common and very sad side effect of Dubism. More Dubs end up agnostic when they leave the Borg. I hope that you don't loose faith in God and that you can find a good church home for yourself. How's the hubby with all this????
