Presumption of guilt? The guy admits he did it, I'm presuming nothing at all. His testimony was that he bought the gun, was carring it, called the priest over to his car, and shot him three times. Where's my presumption? The defense was that he suffered from a "temporary mental illness." Can't the same case be made for those who molest and kill little kids?

Secondly, the priest was not convicted of anything, or charged for that matter. We don't know if the priest is really guilty of anything.

This verdict, which the State can't really appeal, we have that whole double jeapardy thing ya know, makes it open season to kill people you perceive as having harmed you.

May this be a warning to other abusers. It's not all just about dry little courtroom battles. When you 'play' on that level, you could get hurt.
May this NOT be an invitation to other victims. You know, this is not the 'norm' and if you tried to do this, you would most likely only find yourself in deeper trouble.

Sorry, this establishes case law. Now that it's ok in this case, it should be ok in ALL cases. Lets all go get guns and shoot those who have offended us.

It's not the job of juries to empatize, it's the job of juries to decided cases based on the FACTS and the LAW.

Sooo, if this is the way case law is going, I need to go get a gun so I can take care of those who have in any way "hurt" me.

I accept at face value that the priest molested this guy, this still doesn't make the attempted murder ok.

I'm hoping the board will see this as a travisty of Justice, otherwise, lets look to see a lot of homemade justice against those who are merely accused of a crime.

why would an all knowing master of space and time feel the irrepressible need to be adored by mere insects (relatively speaking), and indeed punish them in the most absolute of terms if they fail in this task?

indeed it makes god seem very human, although rather immaturely so.

we expect such behavior from schoolyard bullies, megalomaniac dictators and small children who demand adoration from their beaten dogs.

What if the U.N doesn't find anything in Iraq?

it hit me a few days ago.

what happens if the u.n. searchs iraq and they find nothing?

i mean it's kind of scary to think what will happen to bush's job approval rating if that happens.

About the immigration....do you really think a million arabs decided to move into the most miserable area there is? the gaza strip and west bank? why in the world would they have done that?

To defend "the third holiest site in Islam" The same reason why Muslim terrorists fly into buildings. The Mufti, as early as the 1920's was encouraging Arabs to move into the area to defend Al Quds (Jerusalem). The Al Aqsa Mosque, up until this time, was almost completely abandoned. The myth of Jerusalem and Al Aqsa being the third holiest site in Islam was invented by Arafats great uncle, who was the Egyptian born and appointed Mufti of Jerusalem.

I will concede, however, that I missed the bit in the article about the half million arabs there in 1900. I still question the figure, but it was in the article.

What makes the BBC so neutral. That's like saying the American press is nuetral, we both know that isn't the case. An undercurrent of Antisemitism has run through the British government since just after the Balfour agreement. The British Mandate Authority in Palestine restricted Jewish immigration, forcing many Jews to return to Europe after the second world world, while doing absolutely NOTHING to stem the flow of Arab immigrants. The British government stood squarely in the road of the establishment of a Jewish State, which is why the "Two State" solution was offered by the United Nations.

Again, your BBC report gives absolutely NO figures for what the Arab population of Palestine was in 1900, it only says that in 1922 the entire population of the area was about 3/4 of a million, and that about 500,000 of those were Arab.

Arafat isn't even "palestinian" he was born in Egypt. Like many other Arabs he immigrated into the area. Some before the 1948 Arab Israeli war, some after. When the Arab nations that dispossessed the 600,000 jews in Arab nations during 1948 reimburse the Jews for their lost property, maybe we can start talking.

The British government, though, was anything but "neutral".
