berlin germany has told the united states it will withhold evidence against sept. 11 conspiracy defendant zacarias moussaoui unless it receives assurances that the material won't be used to secure a death penalty against him, germany's justice minister said in remarks released saturday.

just seen this on the news.

i know that european countries won't extradite anyone to the us if they could face the death penalty, but this seems a very different kettle of fish somehow.

When has the US intervened in the Middle East without first being invited by an Arab country? The Saudis invited us to develop their oil fields, Kuwait and Saudi asked our help with Sadam, Israel has been our constant ally. Nay, it was the Europeans, and specifically the Brits who intervened in the Middle East as a result of conquest of war against other European powers. I suppose that yes, if Germany has in the past been complicit in aiding the terrorists there is no reason for them to hit Germany.

HOW EXACTLY has the US caused great suffering among Arabs? We've raised their standard of living, I guess that's harm?

Catholics cannonized the Bible, right?

isn't it true that the roman catholic church put together the bible (canonized the books), and decided the order and all that?

if this isn't true set me straight please.. what do the witnesses think about this?

is it (the bible) just as valid if part of "christendom" decided which books of the bible would be included?

The Athanasian Creed is still used widely in the Eastern Churches, it's somewhat lenthy and ponderous for western tastes, but deeply theological.

No exact date for any of the Gospels exist, to include that of John. Scholars date it from the Early AD 90's to AT VERY LATEST

AD 120. I've yet to read a serious scholar that questions the existence of Jesus, how he is interpreted perhaps, but not that he was a real person. The earlier date is favored by most scholars as Polycarp knows and quotes John's Gospel. Polycarp had met John the Apostle.

I never met my Grandfather, he died when my mom was 16, she's told and retold his stories so much I can repeat them verbatim.

they have a posting opinion section and 100% of the people were against this guy.

1) should there be a more absolute division of church and state in the u.s.?

You're forgeting the issue of the security checks that those serving as Senate and House Chaplains have to go through. Local DC clergy aren't required to submit to this, Senate and House Chaplain's are. Sometimes these guys and gals need to talk about things that are sensitive, moral issues dealing with a bill or resolution, etc. Plus, if a Congressman wants to discuss his alcohol problem the Senate Chaplain is required by law to maintain silence, a civilian is not and must be sued in civil court after any such revelation (whereas the Senate Chaplain can go to jail). There is actually a staff of several chaplains from several different denominations, selected by each House to meet it's needs, not just one. In fact a good friend of mine was the Catholic Chaplain that the Senate recently (last three years) refused to appoint as THE Chaplain. The Congress can select any denomination it so desires.

Thank you for talking openly about suicide and your depression. Often just being able to say it out loud helps get people through danger areas. Folks, if you suspect it, ASK, DIRECTLY, "Are you thinking about suicide" or "Are you thinking about killing yourself" Don't use euphimisms like "hurting yourself" it doesn't give the individual permission to talk about it like the direct question does. Don't worry about "planting the idea of suicide" if they're not considering suicide as an option, asking won't put it there.

Mim, sounds like you know what to do, reach out, stay on meds, see doc, BUILD YOUR RESOURCES, both EXTERNAL and INTERNAL. The Suicide intervention training I have was developed in Canada it's called Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). If ya need to talk email me.

Case in point: The bookmark with the tiny cross on it resulted in demons entering a bedroom and dragging a man's wife, by her feet, halfway out a four-story window, with the husband hanging onto his wife by her arms, fighting against the unseen power with all his strength, pinning his legs against the inside wall below the window. For some inexplicable reason, the demons let go when the woman was halfway out the window. A friend of the man, one of Jehovah's Witnesses, helped him find the bookmark with the tiny cross on it and it was burned.

The S.O.B. did the same thing last weekend over at my house. SHIT!

I wasn't really too concerned with gnosticism as a way of approaching various religions, but rather as a Christian Heresy. As a Christian Heresy it was largely defeated by pen and preaching long before there was a secular arm to the church. I don't debate that the heresy survived in some forms and that the church/secular authorities dealt harshly with it. Again though, the role they were seen to play as subversives and revolutionaries to the secular authorities can not be under rated. Again, I don't condone this, I only try to explain it in the proper light.
