Good ideas, thanks for sharing. At times I still think I fear death, but not death itself. I fear I might not get to do all the things I want before I die...I also fear having a painful death...but dying itself does not necessarily bother me.

fear of death
by DanTheMan inwhen i was a teenager, i got into heavy metal music in a big, big way.
black sabbath, iron maiden, and metallica were my faves, especially metallica.
i lived on their music, listening to their albums literally hundreds of times, often while under the influence of mood-altering substances.

Who believes in a firey hell?
by rekless inis hell the grave.
is it dante' pit.. or is it.
hell is truth seen too late.

Nope. I do not believe in hell. I believe in some type of afterlife, but more like reincarnation, but eventually when your soul reaches its potential you get to reside with the supreme being. I guess hell would be never reaching that, but you still always have a chance, so hey there is no hell...

I struggled with this for a long time when I was also struggling to be a christian. I however do not consider myself a christian anymore, so I do not struggle with all the contradictions in the bible. Now I am more about connecting with my inner spirit and getting peace that way and about the good ness that is created. SO I guess I do not have an exact answer....

Thanks for all your replies. IT is interesting to see all these perspectives on the matter.
Andee--
I know you say you do not believe in the self-love thing, but I think your self-respect is a type of self-love. And it is much more than body image... But I understand where you are coming from. I was even uncomfortable reading that chapter, but I read it twice and it made so much since to me.

I posted on the belief board last week when I started reading a book by Thich Nhat Hanh. I read the chapter on self-love and was deeply moved. I know society, but especially the borg tells people to be selfless and do all these things for others and the borg, that we tend to feel awful about ourselves. We tend to loathe how we look and feel. This book called Teachings on Love talks about how to examine your body (form), perceptions, mental formations, feelings, and consciousness in order to completely love yourself. It really has many good points as well as providing meditations if one is so inclined to do those.
This chapter also discussed understanding the roots of your anger. I find that really hard because I do have anger built up in me for various reasons, but I do feel it is time to let go and I hope this book will help me with that.
How have all of you dealt with the common teachings that you must love others before loving yourself? I just find that so hard, because if you truely do not love yourself, how can you love others?

'Experiences' in Gay Nightclubs, Part Two!
by SYN insince the first "'experiences' in gay nightclubs, part one" thread proved to be so popular (~400 hits in about a day!
), i figured i'd draw another 'experience' from my vast pool of, uh, 'service reports' and 'magazine routes' to share with you people.
this one is quite a bit worse.... so there i am, minding my own business, looking for one of my friends.

Hypnotism
by sleepy inhas any one here ever been hypnotised?.
i'm intrested in whether there is a link to repetative meetings and book studies and hypnotism.. hypnosis is defined as a "sleep like state in which people are open suggestion and will act how they are told to.".
can this wok over a long term period , such as the years in the "truth' or only on a short term basis like in a hypnotists show?.

I have been hypontized 3 times in the past. IT is a great feeling when you are done, you feel like you have slept a whole nights rest, yet you are still able to sleep that night. Yes you can be open to suggestions. I was hyponotized in comedy show at my school, it was so fun though. You know what you are doing, but you do not care, it is like your inhibition has been taken away. The first time I did not go very deep, but the last 2 times, I was much deeper. It is quite fun!
