my last therapy session was all about the "truth".
after many sessions i finally brought up the thought that maybe some of my depression and low self-esteem issues have to do with spending 40 years in a high-control religion.. i won't bore you with all the details but some of the highlights of what i said bothers me are:.
my never feeling like i am doing enough or are good enough.. having regrets about missed opportunities and having let others control my life.. constant changing of doctrine and dates.
Hi Far North. You must be from frigid Canada like me. I have to agree with others here.
Im a 3 rd generation Dub, was in the high-mind-control cult for 40+ years, pioneered, eldered etc.. I felt much like you and understand where you are coming from. Read C of C. Then ask yourself who taught you and made you believe that:
YOU have no hope for salvation
YOU will never make the grade
YOU can never do enough to be "whole-souled".
Everything YOU have done in the past is negated.
That YOU are presently in a spiritually "sick" condition
Jehovah is an exacting God who has no problem destroying the majority of mankind.
So what chance do YOU have?
YOU still don't think YOU have any chance to be one of the "spared ones
the answer is the Watchtower does the Watchtower faithfully represent God or the Bible? Youll shake your head in disbelief as you read how this group of men, who seemingly don't have any more insight into scripture than the average day-to-day busy J.W., claim to understand every verse of Bible prophecy and doctrine. Unfortunately their personal view's and understanding's end up deciding other people's beliefs, hopes and lives. We, as J.W's, taught people studying with us to make sure of all things, to do research, and to leave behind false teachings. It is sad to say that we never personally examined our own religious history and organization. It was presented as unnecessary...and was actually forbidden. So w e took for granted that what we were being told by our parents and by our religious leaders was the truth of God. Is that really so extraordinary? Most of mankind live and die professing the same religion. I consider myself lucky that I finally woke up and chalked J.W.s up on the board with all the other Babylon-the-Greaters. Better late than never!
well, my daughter decided to write they letter.
the foundation for this letter can be found in my previous thread a couple of days ago which can be found at http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=44457&site=3.. she wrote her heart and gave them some good counsel.
she was generous and kind in her comments, yet concise and to the point.
Great letter. The letter was the easy and cheap way for you daughters ex to be free to get remarried. Now the elders will tell the ex that he will have to gather evidence (hire a detective to follow your daughter etc.) to prove she is living in sin. When they feel sufficient proof to have been gathered, then he will be able to remarry.
i have decided to no longer be a jw.
this comes after spending all but 3 of my 36 yrs on this earth as one.
yes it is a huge step, but one i know i must make.
Fade... let them ask why... tell them there are a lot of things troubling you... don't empty the whole barrel all at once, tell them 1 thing that upsets you at a time.
If you mention facts that are undeniable and simply say they are troubling you it will be difficult to d'a you. A C.O. visited us and wanted to know what was going on. We told him a lot of things were troubliing us like people getting told not to have kids now on their pension, 1975, the peace and security talks, king of the north and south etc. He couldn't deny any of the points that we told him upset us, and he couldn't d'f us for them ... after all we didn't teach them!
for me the most boring activity is filling out income tax forms.
i find the most boring person is the dali lama.
just looking at him makes me feel bored.
hard to rate these in order:
the January meeting detailing how to conduct thyself for the summer conventions
the visiting gouverning body member's talk at the convention
Simon, how could you, you have spoiled next season's episode for everyone
BTW great pic
why does the watchtower have to print so many different magazines every two weeks?
the truth is out since over 2000 years, and the truth didn't change since the time of jesus.
so why does the watchtower have to give us the latest version of the truth every 2 weeks?
Keep one submissive group busy, reading the mindset, maintaining the WT mould on their heads, feeling superior and spiritual, exclaiming: Wasnt that a timely article in the latest Tower.
This in turn keeps the other less submissive group, who doesnt read all the mind control articles, in check, by making them feel guilty and inferior: Duh, no, I havent got around to that article yet, duh
my wife and i are starting to look into moving out of the u.s. we are looking at both canada and australia but are leaning to canada.
keep in mind we are just starting to do research so we haven't delved too far in to the politics or locations in canada.
does anyone have any location suggestions?
Experience what ACSOT describes. Visit Montreal. Tour the medical facilities. Don't worry about the French. People move to Montral who don't speak English or French. Enjoy this great city!
i was reading the february 15, 2003 wt which had an article on page 23 entitled "do not leave your child's heart to chance.
" on page 26 under the subheading "even from within the congregation.
" the wt overlords say: "although your teenage child appears to be in good spiritual health, inside he may be struggling with a divided heart.
Memories
Morning services sitting at my desk while the others stood, saluted, sang etc. memory: a teacher decided to do Bible reading, Dad said I could participate brought my Bible (NWT) my turn to read everyone freaking out that my Bible was completely different from their Bibles. A little girl named Donna her mother sending her with the same Bible as me (NWT). Her being laughed at and called a Jehoboswitch too. Donna wasnt a Jehoboswitch.
Art class always telling the teacher that I couldnt draw that. Teacher had to propose a substitute Oh, you arent allowed to draw a Christmas tree with lights on it, then draw a fir tree with snow on it.
Music class not singing half the songs which were pagan or nationalistic or just wrong for no apparent reason memory: teacher behind me noticing I wasnt singing, grabbed me by the hair and pulled me back to his face demanding why I wasnt singing. Muttering some poor excuse and worrying for days after what was going to happen because of this incident.
Remembrance day: the longest minutes of my life, sitting while everyone else was standing at attention. memory: one year the teacher decided to send the 3 J.W kids to the principals office we had to take our desks and chairs out of the class and push them down the halls and then carry them down the stairways to the office then all the way back - everyone in the school had heard the racket and this incident became the student agenda for days.
Keeping all non-JW students (especially girls) at a distance, worried my parents would learn I was making worldly friends.
Gotta stop thinking about this, Im getting upset
