At what price conception?
by wasasister ina young woman i work with, and her husband, have been trying unsucessfully for three years to conceive a child.
she first took fertility drugs and then went for artificial insemination.
those methods have failed and now they are proceeding with in-vitro.

What constitutes a Hero?
by wasasister ina friend and i recently had this conversation in email.
i feel very bad for everybody involved with the project, the families, etc.
as a male child of the 60s i grew up enthralled at the whole nasa project -- building gemini models, posters on the wall, "where were you on 7/20/69", etc.

New Federal regulations regarding medical privacy
by wasasister inthis is going to be boring to many, but i thought it might have significance to those monitoring the hlc and intrusive hospital-visiting elders.. any of you in the health-care field are by now familiar with the health insurance portability and accountability act of 1996. it is a ponderous piece of legislation (thousands of pages long) encompassing stuff like standardized coding of electronic information transmission.
however, one aspect of the law will impact most of us in one way or another.. that aspect is the privacy section of the law.
as a patient, you may notice that your doctor, clinic, dentist, or even optician, are taking additional steps to protect your privacy.

Silent Lambs/Bill Bowen..Who rejoices now?
by wasasister inhaving read the exchanges between rev, bill bowen, and others involved in the silent lambs website, i honestly feel sickened.
i remember when i first started to hear rumblings that "something big" was going down regarding the society's handling of child abuse.
i was overjoyed because i had first-hand knowledge of several atrocities in this regard and was hoping against all odds that a major upset would force them to change their policies.

I bought myself flowers today
by wasasister infriday fluff after a rather heated exchange on another thread...time to lighten up a bit.. i work hard for my money (as the song goes) and don't have much left over after a mortgage payment, car & insurance payments, and utilities.
i'm lucky to have no real debt; i keep my life simple and i learned to be frugal while living with a compulsive spender.. my one luxury allowance - fresh flowers.
when summer is over, and i can no longer pick a bouquet of assorted roses from my garden, i indulge myself in a few fresh flowers.
