Gifts for C.O.'s and D.O.'s
by sosoconfused indoes anyone else find it funny that the circuit overseers and district overseers go to a new congregation every week, have all their bills paid and then for some odd reason the elders always find a way to give them extra money.
on top of that there are atleast 10 families in every hall that give them a green handshake.
then the people who give them expensive gifts (i am ashamed to say i participated in this) like watches etc... yet these guys still act like they are giving up so much.... .

We had a Circuit Overseer who is now a District Overseer named Brown Payne... quite possibly the most arrogant, self-centered prick of a human you will ever meet in a circuit in NJ. One year the elder body decides to buy him a new coat on his visit. We take a collection and come up with money to get him a nice warm wool coat. There in the meeting it is brought out to him all of us smiling and he says, "I don't want this - I only wear leather..."
Now how can you possibly be picky and choosey when you recieve a gift from people who owe you nothing. These idiots actually returned it and got him one.
The kickbacks for these guys must be amazing

Since Great Crowd has no mediator
by sosoconfused ini am thinking that maybe i missed this discussion or something.

@DD She is waiting to go in 2 weeks.
We have a pretty extensive history with this org.
Both her sons(including me) are former Bethelites / Elders / Pioneers / brother was a special Pioneer. This organization is everything to her.
She even asked me "Don't you believe that the slave is who Jehovah is using?????" I wanted to literally choke her.
She is old so I guess there is no reason for her to change now. She has been pioneering for 30+ years, have no real retirement just SS. THey can't travel, they can't do anything.
What is worse she applied to go to the international convention. With all those years of enslavement to this org they still denied her and accepted a bunch of others from the hall. She cried and said, "If it is Jah's will maybe next time. I told her - i'll buy you a ticket and you can just go on your own.... her response, "I am not going to go if not selected and fight against the slave".... I gave up

@Shirley - It amazed me that an article rom 1979 is seen as being archaic and no longer valid. It just goes to show that they enjoy the volatile nature of this organization. I really think constantly changing doctrine makes them believe they have progressive truth - thus a valid reason to say they have the TRUTH.

Sorry, I have not responded in a while but after posting this i went to my parents home... my father greeted me at the door and asked me to please show him the magazine article that speaks of this. On the dining room table were a ton of old books etc... that he was looking through and could not find the material.
Fortunately I refered to this website and pulled it up on the WTLib. Mind you he is in his mid 70's and cannot use a computer. As he reads it slowly aloud, he looks at me and says, "Where did this come from? I always told people out in field service that the reason we pray in JESUS name is because he is our mediator... like the bible says... this is not adding up!" Funny enough I remember him telling us that on our family study all of the time.
Then all of a sudden my mother comes runing in the room SCREAMING at me like a lunatic that I am planting seeds just like Satan in the mind of my father. I told her that this is what the magazine says... here comes the kicker - "WE HAVE RECEIVED NEW LIGHT ON THIS!!! Why would you refer to such an old magazine to confirm our beliefs??!! You know the faithful slave is always moving with the celestial chariot and bringing about new info as the times roll forward toward the end."
I thought to myself, "YUP there goes that NU LIGHT catch phrase again". I told her that this has not change and is still current teaching. She ran over to me and SLAPPED ME IN MY FACE and told me to get out of her house. My father whom I have seen cry maybe once started to cry and also asked me to leave until my mother calms down.
I began driving home mad as all hell and my father calls me from a cellphone speaking ever so softly and says, "Call me this evening at 7... your mother has a bible study and will be gone then."
Dear God let this man be free!

I told him I will show you in the magazine and turned to it... HE NEARLY WENT NUUUUUTS.
This leads me to really ask, "Why did I not know this before?" "Why didn't he know this?"
This org and its crafty way of throwing one-liners into watchtower side articles is very very sly.
So he ends by asking me, "Well... who is our mediator? Is it the Governing Body?" The thought is repulsive.
My question is, do they explain who the great crowds mediator is or do we just not get one?

You see, my dad was in Vietnam... SO i don't feel bad saying this - he is also a wierdo.
Even to this day he talks like violence is nothing and that pain and suffering are nothing. It is a mind state that these men were put into because they had to see atrocities. They aren't normal.
Having someone like that leading you in a spiritual way is very very unsettling.
Saying those things in front of children is horrible. Yet at the sametime he tells kids that Sparlock is demonic and bad. What he was describing was vile. If you watch a movie displaying that sort of thing you would be in such trouble.
The hypocrisy is just mind boggling... how could anyone believe a caring creator would be so violent?

@Quendi
Sam Herd was there when I was there and I hate to say this but he went OUT OF HIS WAY to ensure that no one would think he was black. I am black as well, and I remember he had this way about him that he purposely made you think he had no association or desire to get to know you.
I had an assistant overseer there named Carlos West, he was a black brother who was the assistant overseer of the 25& 30 cleaning crew. He later went on to the Writing Department believe it or not. Anyway, on my 6 month review he told me that one of the things I needed to work on in order to be able to pass my 10 month review was stop being so "ethnic"... all the hey bros and whats ups will get you a trip home. Pathetic...
Funny thing is my best friend at bethel was a white guy from OHIO LOL

While at Bethel I loved going to the Latin Brothers parties because it was the only way I could dance close with a woman and possibly have her breasts brush up against me and not get disfellowshipped ROFL

Another thread on this board recalled to my mind the various thoughts and ideas in this organization that are still very prevelant among many.
For instance I already mentioned the late 70's to early 80's segregation in the kingdom halls, but in the 90's clear through to now for instance:
At Bethel in the mid 90's if you listened to or were found with RAP music you were GONE, no questions asked. There was even n an awake speaking about how the whole hip-hop culture was to be avoided. THey did mention heavy metal and death metal but not the various forms of "alternative: music that was just as bad. As a matter of fact many at Bethel open had other types of music that had strongly objectionable content but nothing was said.
I personally was pulled aside ain an elevator at Bethel and told by a White older brother that instead of going to the gym to play basketball I should probably spend more time in the library.... this was said to me while Iwas going there with the three white brothers next to me.
There was a brother from Texas also named Victor who walked around witha confederate flag bandana in his back pocket... and no one ever said anything to him about it.
I also remember the ongoing joke in the Bethel locker rooms at 25 and 30 building abount all the "reggins" hogging the court. Although that was onec addressed by my overseer.
The latest item I recall though is that at a congregation international night we had with our Circuit overseer present we had Mexican friends dressed in thier native garb and had native foods. Some of the white friends in Dutch or Irish items with such foods and everything was lovely.
However one of the Black Brothers from the south just dressed in jeans performed some "spoken word" type poetry and the C.O. had the elders stop the brother and told him that there was to be no "rap" music and that somethings in our culture just aren't positive and should not be put on display.
Not that this is an exhaustive list - but it just reminds me of just a number of the clues that led me to see that this organization is truly not spirit directed at all.
**** me rambling I am sure :(*********
