Elder and MS Extortion!

Very good questions steve2
- It was a request- No consequences, it was just stated that our faith should move us to help as much as we can towards the objective.
- NOTHING in writing was presented, account information was provided for the deposits. We were asked to take down the account info and to call certain elders if there were issues.
- The coordinator did not read from any paper, he just spoke to us.
Sounded very Nigerian to me (no offence intended to any Nigerian natives).

I'll probably have to inbox you my country (trying to be careful for now). I was there, it was elders and MS (I'm an MS). It was said that we would get more information about how the money would be used in the future. What baffles me is why the 'servant body' only.
Maybe it's a way of asking for even more money from a congregation without making it seem so desperate. Asking more from those who can be 'trusted'.

I think a better question is, how can we get reliable, juicy information from an agent already on the inside? (the awake or waking up)

They are seeking to raise this money in April from elders and ministerial servants in our circuit ONLY. We are not allowed to tell anyone, not our family members, best friends, or even our spouses. I have been an MS for 5 years now and I've never experienced anything like that before. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Are things like that common at elders meetings? Why do they need that money? Why so secretive? What the hell is going on?

How can anyone who is truly spiritual-minded attend Bethel and not realize it's all a scam
by sosoconfused innot that i was any better(lol - but as i sat back and thought about the time i spent there, and the things i saw i feel disgusted.. i could literally write a thousand stories about the discrimination, favortism and all out dishonest that took place but i doubt anyone would actually care.
the one thing however that really sticks out in my mind is when i was in a nice room with my roommate that he kind of inherited after his previous roommate left.
it actually had a bathroom and we both had space for real beds(not those dang trundle beds like we had in standish).. .

sabastious I agree with you 110%, I think it is more an issue of the ease with which emotion trumps logic. For instance one of my friends is considered a genius by many due to her accomplishments and approach to solving problems in her field (I can’t give much detail for fear of being caught). She and I have a similar world view, and have lengthy discussions about the manipulation of the mind in advertising, politics, 'false religion' etc, and I was hoping she would wake up like I did. Yet, she gets very emotionally riled up at conventions, about ‘new light’ in the Watchtower etc, and is just a general WT pawn. She started sounding like she was going to wake up about 2 years back, but got over zealous and relapsed after her parents’ divorce (emotional trauma). She started reading WT literature on the subject like crazy and was able to find ‘comfort’, and hopes her family will be together again, if not now, then in ‘paradise’, so it’s up to her now to ensure that happens. It hurts to hear her parrot Watchtower catch phrases for solace when someone so mentally gifted should know better. It baffles me.
Then again, both of us have experienced times of deep emotional pain in our lives. That was a part of what made me stop, think, and wake up, and it seems it made her a better Watchtower tool. No wonder they are so successful at indoctrinating after disasters, deaths, divorces, illness etc. People don't always think as clearly when feeling emotional pain and look for anything to sooth their minds.

Don't should all over yourself
by man in black inlooking back over 29 years as a jw it really shocks me to reflect on how passive young people are molded toward this religions goals.. dont ever plan on attending college, instead focus your life toward the goal of pioneering.
dont look at building a future in this world,,, focus on gaining a position within the congregation and the organization, ( ms, elder, missionary, etc).
the list can go on and on, but hopefully readers get the picture i'm trying to paint here.. i ran into this article last week, and i'm amazed at how well it fits into the jw mindset toward young ones :.

My parents and allot of their JW friends are screwed right now thanks to thinking they did not need to plan for the future, with respects to retirement etc. They are aging, deteriorating in health steadily, and things they should have put in place to make life more comfortable now are.........not there. In previous years their rhetoric was allot of 'the end is near so we don't need to worry about that', now it's more along the lines of: 'we're suffering, but Jehovah will provide'.
I see allot of dubs my age group (20s) following their footsteps, and on this present course, in another 20-30 years we WILL BE OUR PARENTS. It's sad that this has gone on for many generations, as each feels a sense of entitlement: 'we're special, some magical guy in the sky is going to solve all our problems if we study these books written by men and do EXACTLY as they say. Isolating friends and family, making weird life choices with no logical basis, sticking to doctrine purely out of emotional attachment, and paying the corporation which is strangling and robbing them of their productivity and useful life.
I get pissed more and more at the status quo each day, especially since I have to pretend to be in for the meanwhile.
