  There is something I don't understand about the selling off of Kingdom Halls

  i have been reading where the watchtower is closing down kingdom halls.

  there is something that i don't understand, or maybe i am just misunderstanding it.

  can someone clear this up for me?

  I have been reading where the Watchtower is closing down kingdom halls. There is something that I don't understand, or maybe I am just misunderstanding it. Can someone clear this up for me?

  When a kingdom hall is built, it is the brothers from that congregation who takes out the loan and over the course of time pay that loan off. When the kingdom hall is built, it is volunteers who build it for the most part. When a kingdom hall is sold off who gets the money? I am getting the impression that when a kingdom hall is sold off it is the Watchtower who profits from this.

  Incomplete List of Reasons or Ways to Die in the Bible

  i´ve come up with a partial list (i am only in 1 kings) of the many reasons and ways to die in the bible.maybe, when i am in revelation, i am going to share the full list.

  Can someone help me figure out something, dealing with paganism?

  the watchtower and quite a few other religious groups don't do certain things because of pagan origins.

  they go on about the different holidays, certain traditions, and say they don't do those things because of pagan origins.

  yet they turn right around and do other stuff, which does have pagan origins.

  That makes total sense. I've been away from the JW, that quite a bit of their stuff I have totally forgotten about, just retain enough to know I never want to ever step foot on their property ever again. One thing I do remember asking, and no one could ever answer was if they don't celebrate the different holidays, because of pagan origin, then why couldn't they celebrate the Jewish holidays such as Hanukkah, surely they weren't started by pagans. Weren't the Jews at one time God's chosen? That was how I brought it up back then, this was before I was even baptized. Not one single JW would answer my question.

They go on about the different holidays, certain traditions, and say they don't do those things because of pagan origins. Yet they turn right around and do other stuff, which does have pagan origins. I would say a good portion of what we do in our everyday lives have some kind of pagan origins. Personally, I don't care, because the way I think about it, it was people who started everything that we continue to this very day. What I can't figure out why do certain groups want to pick and choose which things they do and don't do when all of it has some kind of pagan origin?

  Why is the Watchtower omitting even more scriptures from their bible?

  i was searching for something online when i came across something that perked my interest.

  i left the jws back in 2001, and have recently discovered that in 2013 they released a new edition of the new world translation of the holy scriptures.

  but something i have also discovered it that they have omitted even more scriptures than what was in the 1984 edition as if that was bad enough.

  @smiddy3 I have often wondered why there were only 66 books in the bible, that number always struck me as being a bit odd. Growing up my grandmother who was a Pentecostal was a superstitious woman, and one of the numbers she was spooked by was 666.

  Elder Is Dodgy Used Car Salesman

  just thought i'd relate this story for any lurkers out there.. here in the north west of england there's an elder called george ashton.

  the ashton's are a big family, most of the men are appointed as elders or at least min servants.

  george owns a used car dealership and almost all jws in liverpool looking for a car have heard of him.

  When I was a JW, I had an experience that caused me never do business with JWs ever again, well two, but I didn't learn my lesson from the first time.

  The first time was when my husband and I were first married. Just before we got married, my husband was living in a cozy little apartment renting from a fairly decent landlord (a worldly woman). But we were convinced into moving into this other apartment, owned by a JW elder. From all appearances, it looked even better than the place we had, but it wasn't as we discovered after moving it. What made thing impossible to live there, besides all the things that were wrong with it was the landlord (a JW elder). He would be constantly popping in, with no notification, and not bothering to knock on the door. There were a couple of times I was in the bath, and guess who would come walking in. After that, my husband and I moved to another location, in a different congeration.

  The second time, the one where I did learn my lesson. My husband was involved in a car accident, no one was hurt, but our car needed some major repairs. A fellow JW told us that his friend, also another JW in a different congeration owns a body repair shop. So we went to this "friend", and he said he would do the repairs. At the time we had a $500 deductible and worked out an arrangement for the payment of the deductible. We told him we could pay $75 a week, except for one week, the week we had to pay our rent. But we would pay double the following week, and he agreed to this.

  But when the week we were to skip, and something he agreed to, he started calling and harassing us, and even threatened to report us to the elders. We headed him off and talked to our elders about the situation, told them of the agreement, in case he called, which he did report us. The harassment got so bad that we borrowed an answering machine, turned off the ringer, and screened all of our calls. This guy was calling and threatening us quite a few times during the day and night. But being a "good" JW we didn't report his sorry @$$ to the authorities.

  How Did The Elders Treat You?

  did you get along with them?

  did you ever incur their wrath?

  most jws want to be “friends “ with the elders, kind of like having a policeman that you know who might help you out if you are in need..

  When I was still living at home with my parents (mom was a JW, dad had nothing to do with it), once there was this one elder to got on to me about something, don't recall what it was, but my mother saw what had happened (I was not baptized at the time, and only around 7). Under no uncertain terms does anyone get onto her children about anything, if they have a problem with her kids they were to go to her about it, then she would deal with it if need be My mother didn't take flack from anyone, elders included.

  That was the only time I remembered having any issues with the elders, but then again I was not one to cause waves.

  Back after 4 years!!

  gosh i can't believe i would still be able to log in to this site after around 4 years.

  i simply just forgot my password and got the lightbulb back in my head a few minutes ago.

  not sure if anyone can still remember me (i was just one of those occasional passers-by a few years ago with some relatively depressing experience after waking up to ttatt).. in the last 4 years, i:.

  Welcome Back OND, it's good to see you. Same here, life gets busy. There has been a couple of times I too have not been on this forum for long periods of time. The first time I moved and lost all my information. The second time got a little smarter and wrote the information down somewhere that I wouldn't lose it, only to misplace it, then found it again. lol

  I never said that I know too much about the bible, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that things are being removed.
