Who will struggle in 2011? The Uneducated (and those with Awake! degrees)
by truman indespite the watchtower's drumbeat of anti-higher education rhetoric, they are tragically misguiding their followers about the relationship between a college education and job prospects.
i ran across this tidbit in my internet travels:.

JWs and the Arts: The Muse Executed at Armageddon?
by truman inthe recent thread about some jw's reaction to the movie avatar made me flash back to some of my own misgivings when i was a jw about the wts's relationship to the arts.. .
jws are always ready to denounce any work of the human imagination that hints at ideas outside their narrow dogma.
movies whose titles have hindu etymology and which feature alien blue pagans are only the most recent.

Do JWs really want Armageddon?
by truman inrecently several threads have been under discussion concerning the possible change in the understanding of the jw this generation that will not pass away teaching.
since the change in the early 1990s that sought to disconnect the doctrine from its previous anchor date of 1914 and another change in 2007 to free it from 1935, it seems now that more alteration is in the works.
in the scotsmans thread, he says that as these new light understandings come out of the wts, most r & f jws will embrace this with both hands.

JWs preaching at college
by truman intoday, while i was making my way across my college campus between classes, i encountered a surprising sight.
there in the quad was a table with literature spread out on it, and two jws sitting beside a sign proclaiming "free bible course".
how interesting, in light of all the recent denouncing of higher education, that they should be right there in the middle of academia.

Have you repented?...I have!
by truman inin one of metatron's insightful posts, a phrase jumped out at me.
he described a jw as having joined the religion in an act of repentance from a life of experiment in:.
sex, drugs, spiritism, and alcohol.. i guess i am feeling really rebellious tonight, because the thought came to me that i too have experienced a transformation, a conversion, and have truly repented.

by truman ini am just going to have to start keeping my front door closed.
today, i had it open, and there was no way to pretend i wasn't home when the two 'brothers' rang my door bell.
actually, they had been by last saturday, too, but the door was closed that day, and i didn't answer it.

Mormons making movies, how about us?
by truman inthis week's "newsweek", sept. 23, 2002, has a small article about a current series of movies made by mormons skewering their culture.. they're a laugh riot.
mormons, known for their seriousness and sobriety, are letting loose on the silver screen with a spate of small-budget comedies.
.....two brigham young university grads, started the trend with "the singles ward", a campy jab at the mormon singles scene... (a line about divore: "our ancestors were able to handle 4 or 5 wives.
