apostates are a figment of the jw imagination.
not necessarily the dictionary definition of the word apostate, which simply means a person who leaves their religion, for by that definition everyone who leaves a religion to become a jw is an apostate--but the jw conception of the apostate, both as an individual and as a 'group' is imaginary.. .
for starters, the watchtower goes beyond the definition of merely leaving the religion, if a person disagrees with a doctrine or practice of the organization, even if they dont voice it, that is a thoughtcrime called apostasy.
I remember as a kid in the early 80s walking with my mum through the cut in Riversdale Crescent, Murrayfield, and seeing all the evil apostates with placards shouting. My mum put her hands over my ears while we walked. She said they would drag me away and teach me about satan. At that age, i believed her. Shes horrified that i have done further research on "that apostate interweb". I feel so sorry and helpless for her...

Morning all! Me and wifey just off on our trusty touring motorbike riding around the Lake District here in Britain. Snow capped mountains reflected in glassy lakes! Perfect! We'll take some photos, ride on an old steam boat, watch the ospreys looking for fish. Its only 4 degrees c. Brrr! But spring is definitly around the corner. going through an dealing with a mentally ill spouse (living hell, long story, pm me if you want details), and talking to others who have dealt with the mentally ill, i've come to an epiphany.. you cannot make sense of "crazy".
that's why, when you get out of the wt, get out of the mind control, and try to reason with your loved ones or friends, it will not work.
we are dealing with people under mind control and i believe that is a close cousin of mental illness.
You make a valid point Baltar. I think most cults pray on vulnerable people with promises of a better life. They get love bombed etc. But what they dont get from a cult is reasonable help and answers to how THEY are feeling. Its all about slaving for the borg. If you are depressed, DO MORE PREACHING!
The issues people have are repressed and not dealt with, until they surface years later as severe mental problems. The human mind can only take so much pressure until it pops.

Am I correct in saying that it is up to the will maker to show anyone they want what their will contains? Sounds a bit cloak and dagger? A roundabout way of saying "dont show anyone the will, they might make you change it"
