ive just been listening on utube to learn about joseph smith and im wondering how our mormon friends view joseph.

qcmbr, susanhere and others.. i saw on th emovie how joseph had a vison of moroni and joseph was supprised moroni was white and said he was a jew.

jews happen to have dark skin like greeks or lebonese people they are semetic while the american indians are of the mongolian race.two different races altogether.. i also saw on the movie how joseph translated the plates by putting them in a hat with the two stones and waiting for the light to come so he could translate to the writer.

O God anther impossible romantasist. Get real it takes time to build relationships and any body that feels that way in the begining about you is usually not going to keep it, especially if your a miss know-it-all or some other personality trait that will eventually cause some friction. It happens in all relationships, and honesty is need to fantasy to deal with it sensibly.

True, but that adoring part has to be there in the beginning, and then proven out over time. If the relationship is right, two people will overcome the challenges and difficulties, growing ever closer in the process. Marriage takes effort, work, a sense of humor, the ability to forgive, and the desire to give the health of the relationship a higher priority than anything else in life. If the love isn't strong enough in the beginning, there may not be enough water in the well to draw from during the tough times.

Why would anybody get married if they didn't truly love and adore the other? There are other reasons, I know, but could there be a better one?

By already taken now and forever, I mean married for time and all eternity, by choice. I caught a "keeper" on the first go-around. Not everyone's so lucky, unfortunately.

Also, sorry to burst everyone's bubble about the sex with 30 wives scenerio that seems so popular around this board, mostly thanks to a certain poser who showed up lately.

But... the research makes it clear that Joseph Smith did not marry 30 women who were sexual partners to him. There is also no proof whatsoever that he had physical relations with any women who had living husbands.

He also did not have relations with 14-year old girls.

Sorry to be the bearer of such bubble-bursting news, but hey, fantasy is still an option, so feel free to imagine him -- or yourselves -- with scores of lovely, nubile, submissive females if it makes you happy.

I'll stick to the facts.

I'm afraid my criteria for husband material may have been too high for you. I required, first, a man of high intelligence. Second, a man of unquestionable character. Third, a man with deep spirituality that served as guide, motivation, and restraint in his life.

Also, he had to absolutely adore me and consider himself the luckiest man in the world to have me to love and adore him in return.

There were a few other requirements, but those hit the highlights.

What do you think -- would you have qualified?

I found this lovely message in my inbox. You have problems, Shawn. I really don't care what they are, or how you came by them, but you have problems.

I also really don't care about how you feel regarding my presence and/or participation on this board. Everyone welcome means just that. If you don't care for my comments, don't read them.

I am now, and will continue to be, LDS now and forever. This is not something I feel I need to hide here or anywhere else. It is what I am. It is not all that I am, nor does it define the sum total of my life.

Being LDS is not, however, why I am on this board, not that a reason is needed, nor is justification needed for you or anyone else regarding my presence here.

I am the enemy of none on this board, though some have chosen to set themselves as my enemies through hostility and mockery of me and of my beliefs. That is their choice.

I defend those on here, LDS or not, who I feel are being unfairly attacked. If you don't like any of the above, please take your own advice, and

GO HOME.

As for me, I will continue to participate on this board.

People, if someone with a loose screw were to say to me, "I know your name is Michael, you're really a man, and you just got out of jail for x, y, and z." What would you expect me to say?

Fact is, Mr. Someone would be dead wrong. Of course I'm going to tell him so.

Even though I'm obviously a woman who enjoys being one, and I don't have a man's name, nor have I a criminal record thus far in my life, there would undoubtedly be those who would choose to listen to Mr. Someone and try to get me to 'fess up to the supposed "facts" of his ravings.

Well, sorry, folks. Truth is truth and Mr. Someone still has a loose screw. And I don't lie.

Like I said before... believe FM's story or not. It's your choice.

I'm converting again.

2 years ago i left jws.

i went to a baptist church because it was what my husband was.

i knew i wanted to go to church but which one i really didn't know yet.. two years later, i think i have made up my mind: presbyterian.. anyone have anything they want to share?

I was raised Presbyterian back when they actually stood for something and had standards we were expected to follow. Between then and now they've morphed into something which my mother, who still attends there occasionally, tells me I wouldn't recognize at all.

She is uncomfortable with the new friendliness, the more open interaction between congregation members, and between the pastor and the congregation, the instruction to turn and greet your neighbors, things like that. She's used to things being more formal. I think I would have liked those changes as it was pretty cold and sterile when I was a child. I don't know if they have very many do's and don'ts anymore. Smoking and drinking were never an issue for them, so probably still aren't much of a concern.

They've also stopped having the strict dress code we had, with the hat, gloves, etc. Now she doesn't even own a dress. Apparently nobody cares. Many Presbyterian churches are "come as you are", believing that it's better to have people come and enjoy worship and fellowship however they are dressed than to feel left out because they don't have the right clothes or are on vacation and didn't bring nice things to wear.

They have a good Sunday School, divided by ages. The children are taught excellent songs. Communion was with grape juice, not wine. Probably still is. It was for all members who had been through Confirmation classes and been confirmed. Confirmation was at age 12. Baptism was by sprinkling and usually infants.

My mother's church put an ad in the paper inviting gays to attend there, promising them a welcoming environment. My mother is all in favor of that. She attended some sort of a committment ceremony between some gay couples, but I'm not sure if that was in the Presbyterian church or another. Sorry, but that creeps me out.

Let us know how it goes when you check it out for yourself. Good luck in your search for a new church home. There's lots to choose from, so enjoy the journey!

Thank you, Qcmbr, for your detailed, line by line rebuttal of FM's ravings. Let's hope it wasn't totally wasted effort but that at least some will benefit from your excellent efforts. Your advice to FM to seek counseling is more than justified by his own words and peculiar version of a most improbable life story.

I read a lot of strange, silly, ignorant, or just plain mean-spirited comments about Mormons on this board, but choose to respond to only a few. Mostly I just let people believe whatever they choose and give them the benefit of the doubt. Most people just don't know what Mormons are really like, so they are simply repeating something they heard someone else say, or relating some incident as fact but which was actually a misunderstanding. I choose to believe that most people are basically kind and good hearted when given a chance.

FM's postings, though, went far beyond the norm. Claiming the credibility of former membership, therefore, insider knowledge, he gave next to nothing of Mormon doctrine or lifestyle that could possibly be factual. Instead he entertained everyone with lurid fantasy, half truths, and outright misinformation.. Dare I say ... lies?

This is not your typical "a neighbor who used to be a Mormon told me...." story. This guy is claiming credibility. And he doesn't have it. Nothing in his posting has a ring of truth. Statement after statement is easily shot down.

Qcmbr could have doubled his comments and still not covered it all. He hit the highlights, though, and very well. FM's a poser. Or a deeply troubled person. Or both. Whatever his problems, Mormon doctrine and lifestyle were not the cause.

I agree. This "recovering mormon" is a poser. You guys are being led down the garden path by your noses and don't even know it.

He has obvious doctrinal errors right from the beginning of his sob story. As JW's you aren't catching them, but anybody who is or has been LDS knows better that to buy into it. Just one example: As a child he was terrified by the hellfire and brimstone teachings. Guess what? Mormons don't believe in hellfire. Mormons don't believe in brimstone. If he was actually terrified by those teachings as a child, it was NOT at an LDS Church meeting.

Far more likely, he never experienced this terrifying event at all, but it makes a great story and gains all sorts of sympathy for his supposedly tragic cultic upbringing.

The more he says, the deeper he wades in the made-up hogwash of his own imaginations coupled with quotes from anti-LDS sites that anyone can easily access if they want to. I could list a dozen more examples of things that COULD NOT have happened to him in the Mormon church and COULD NOT have been taught to him in the Mormon church.

He's jerking your chain, the same has this same poster has done several times in the past, until he was caught in his web of deceit and people finally wised up to his game.

Believe him or not. It's your choice.
