Heard it from a friends JW mother
by Still Totally ADD inthe other day we went to our friends business to have our computer worked on.
our friend was raised a jw but never got baptized and left when he was in his late teens.

ADD: Well, I think the distance by train from PA to the Society's buildings in NY once had special meaning, so sure, why not? It's the perfect, heavenly number 7 times 10 for completeness!

I guess the main point I want to make is that it's the job of her lawyer to find some way to lighten her sentence since there's no question that she did it. How else would he do this, but by trying to play up the factor of the religion? Lawyers always do this; they work with their clients to find the right angle to generate a sob story. "You ran because you were afraid you were going to get framed like you did once before, right?" "You punched the cop because he reminded you of your father who used to beat you, right?" Etc. So let's not just take the side of the defending lawyer here just because it gives us another thing to blame the religion for.

I don't agree with trying to pin this on the religion. As I said in a previous thread, mental people are mental, no matter what their background is.

Nothing about regular, monthly showings has been announced yet, but I do agree it's plausible as a future development. Right now the only planned broadcast we know about is the Zone visit in the next month.

China overtakes U.S. as the the world's largest economy'--WT predictions upside down?
by exWTslave inchina overtakes u.s. as the the world's largest economy': imf says.*.
again problem for writing committee of jws?
after ussr disintegration, jws said: now we have only one world power (south king) on the world scene, and north king will appear in its own time, may be as one of the former ussr state or as some other communist country.. but now equations are now totally upside downwith a communist country replacing the south kings as the world power!?.

I once suggested that perhaps China will become the WT's "eighth king". They can maybe get one more world power out of their end-times predictions this way, which unfortunately could buy them a lot of time before everyone can see that their prophecies has unequivocally failed -- not until someone else rises up after China.

Killing In Self Defense
by Cold Steel inthe man was moving around in the darkness of j's home with a gun.
he was certain j. and his family weren't there, but he was wrong.
when a door suddenly opened and a dark figure fumbled for the hallway light, he had only a moment to act.

I think some people are having Walter Mitty-style fantasies of being Dirty Harry. It's not unusual. They'd probably feel pretty bad once they actually shot someone and watched them die/squirm in agony while not dying. It usually ain't like in the movies!

Has anyone else heard this about the GB??
by FeelingFree inok so me and my husband were talking to his mum again about why we are no longer going to meetings and got into another pointless discussion where she feels he needs to talk to an elder about his issue's blah, blah, blah... round and round it went...... the thing i wanted to ask was if anybody had heard that there wont be any gb after these one's die??
this is something she mentioned today and we have never heard of this ever.
so it means no more will be appointed and they will just die off!

It sounds to me like she is close to something the Society has said, but doesn't realize that the GB are supposed to be in heaven before Armageddon, which would require non-anointed replacements to continue running the org. Of course the assumption by JWs is probably that the GT will not last very long, and thus, when the GB are gone the end will be upon us. So I don't think she's far off from the truth... er, troof.
What I don't get about that teaching is, are they all gonna disappear one day? It seems that they're now teaching that, because the end has to come before the overlapping generation dies, then the last anointed ones will be whisked up to heaven by flaming chariots or what-not.

Evidence of life after death?
by little_Socrates inhttp://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/life-after-death-largestever-study-provides-evidence-that-out-of-body-and-neardeath-experiences-may-actually-be-real-9780195.html.
"experts currently believe that the brain shuts down within 20 to 30 seconds of the heart stopping beating and that it is not possible to be aware of anything at all once that has happened.. but scientists in the new study heard said they heard compelling evidence that patients experienced real events for up to three minutes after this had happened and could recall them accurately once they had been resuscitated.".
how are people having "experinces" while there is no evidence of heart or brain activity?.

I believe in near death experiences too. I just don't think they have anything to do with a soul that lives on after death.
