If they saw me now....
by starfish422 ini am sooooooo not the person i was when i was in the borg.
that person was young, naive, and had no more backbone than a jellyfish.
she believed what she was told, because why would someone lie to her?

Nicest in congregation
by starfish422 inokay, we've talked to death about the crazies in our congregations, and i'm sure we've discussed the grouches (read: boe) but was there anyone in your congregation who was super-nice to you?.
in my congregation (i was in the same one from birth to age 18 when i left) there was an older german couple who had a worldly daughter (grown up, moved out & married) and had a son with down's syndrome.
they lived on a beautiful lake and always had the congregation picnic at their house.

Too good not to share...
by starfish422 inunder the category of "brother franz would be spinning in his grave if he knew...":.
a poster on another message board (a religious debate board, not jw-specific) mentioned that just before xmas, her husband was accosted outside their home by jws who managed to place literature with him.
instead of mentioning this to his wife, he simply placed the literature in her xmas stocking!

MY ANNIVERSARY!!
by starfish422 intoday is 9 years since i made my stand against the oppression.
in celebration, i offer my favourite song by sloan (for you non-canucks, a great canadian band from halifax, nova scotia).
i sing this song at the top of my lungs when it comes on the radio, because i know how much my father would hate it.

For those who've left - any regrets?
by starfish422 ini left almost nine years ago at age 18; my only real regret was that i was good friends with a young brother and i never said goodbye to him, or even let him know that i was planning to leave (had to leave my parents' home secretly while they were at the meeting one sunday; they had such a hold over me that i could never have stood up to them and told them beforehand).
.
i have no other regrets about leaving; i'm am now happily agnostic and so thankful that i found the strength to break free.. anyone have any similar regrets?

Different view on DF vs. DA?
by starfish422 ini da'd myself in 1993; i had left in june and by october, after several jc meetings, i was told to either write a letter or else i'd be df'd within the week.
taking the view of having control over my own destiny, i wrote a letter.
my parents then disowned me, because i had stated that i did not want to be associated with jws.

Anyone from Toronto or Kingston, Ontario...
by starfish422 ini realize i may be going out on a limb here...but i'm trying to track down a friend from my old congregation.
i'm an ex-jdub and my friend michael mosier started out in scarborough, and then moved to inverary congration (mine) in the early 90s.
his parents, eldon and doris mosier, are still at inverary cong.

which issues...
by starfish422 inwithout having read all the responses, i'm going to post my own thoughts:.
1) i think people would be very interested to know about the door-to-door records which the j-dubs keep on them; as you mentioned in the text of your proposed flyer, expat.
2) i was discussing this with a friend yesterday (who has never been associated with the j-dubs) and we were talking about the invasive spirit of the entire organization; specifically, their views on "acceptable" sexual relations between a husband and wife...i told my friend that (last i read) oral sex was a disfellowshipping offence, and he said, "how would they monitor something like that?!
