Hey restrangled, if you are wanting to keep your anonymity, but wondering if they received it, maybe you could ask Angharad to play go between in the new year and check with the person on your behalf???? I haven't received mine yet (not a problem, like you, I'm in it more for the fun of sending. I'm just saying in case you are my secret santa and are wondering why I haven't said anything to acknowledge receipt and set your mind at ease). I'm late sending my gift out so hopefully my recipient has some patience for me and doesn't mind getting presents in January. :O)

What Gilead Taught ME
by AllTimeJeff inthey mean the leadership.
all of this is code for: one who is not ready to really study and accept how the leadership of jehovah's witnesses use the bible to their own self serving means.
but to be fair, jw's teach that most all of these characters refer to the leadership of jehovah's witnesses, the governing body.

Hmmm, interesting. Sounds like (spiritual) rape. Or at the least, quite seductive. Disillusionment can be scary. Sweet liberation!!

And UGLY response to a Christmas Card!
by LovesDubs inboy..just when i thought things couldnt get weirder in my life...i spent a whole day designing a christmas newsletter with colorful pictures and stories about what my kids and family have been doing, and the election and you know...year end things and greetings, to send out.
i do this every year.
this year i had to file bankruptcy in august and decided to email the newsletter to save money.

'Tis the season. That's what impersonal financial institutions are for. Low drama. :) Sounds like the bank of dad-in-law is feeling unappreciated. Pay that man off QUICK, with thanks. And reframe the relationship. Since you indicate that you recognize his ill behaviour of trying to control people with money, don't enable it or participate in it. Does everyone in the family dislike the man, but accept his money?? I wonder how he would behave toward someone that developed a relationship with him and refused to allow his money into the picture.

Do you feel embarrassed, humiliated, anger that you were a Jw?
by LouBelle ini ask because some posters say they felt totally humiliated, or wonder how they could have been sucked in, or some are extremely bitter and angry about their past.
over the nearly 4 years i've come to totally accept that i was a jw, but have made my peace, and honestly can say i've forgiven, if you will, that part of my life.
totally moved on and do not have negative feelings about it.

Sometimes, yes. Other times I've felt pride, confidence, and a sense of humour over the course of my life and all that it's entailed, including the JW parts. It generally all comes out in the wash. I've observed that this is much the same for other humans being as well, whatever their personal past life drama/demons/challenges. Such emotions are like the weather. The "day" it's happening, it bears *some* informative relevance on matters; a day, week, month, or years later, much less so, as we are generally on to new material conditions calling for a suitably adaptive response. It seems practical to allow those emotions to run their course (and learn from them) while keeping an eye focused on accepting current conditions since that's where our potency truly acts.

Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and those who leave cults
by Lady Lee inquite a few people on jwd have said they suffer from complex post traumatic stress disorder ( c-ptsd).
i'm not sure how well this issue has been discussed.
c-ptsd is slightly different than ptsd.

That's sad about your dad, Lady Lee. I must admit, I find it weird when we label the person that shares their natural human responses to upsetting experiences as somehow mentally disordered rather than perhaps listening and learning and adjusting course appropriately and/or AT LEAST accommodating the healing of vets as part of the whole process in a serious and committed fashion. I sometimes think of immigrants from war-ridden countries in a similar context.

Quitting smoking (again)
by DanTheMan ini managed to stay off the bloody things for over 2 1/2 yrs but alas i fell off the wagon in september.
my plan is to ramp-down today by only having a cig every two hours or so, then cold turkey tomorrow.
i have a hard time holding myself to 'quit days' when i'm the only one who knows what day it is, hence i'm making it public so that i feel more accountable.
