  you would have had to qualify as an elder previously.

  this would mean the male would have had to have been an elder in his early 20's.

  In my last few elder's and servants meetings i really HATED the way C.O browbeat and lectured us all on being patient with a brother who let us down on on the ministry, missed loads of meetings and was totally unreliable..

  ...Whilst we APPOINTED MEN had to be positive, reliable, upbeat and encouraging at all times..or else booted off our positions for not meeting the mark..

  One elder on the bodies hours were fairly low.. the CO wanted him removed.

  He explained that he'd been on COUNTLESS judicial committees and heavyweight elders meetings and shepherding calls over the last couple of months..

  The CO said, yes, but the other elders who did all the same extra shepherding as you have all reported MORE THAN AVERAGE monthly hours..

  The elder suddenly realised the other elders must have been falsifying their reported hours..

  Yes, good luck all the new 'mature' older men in their 20's...they're going to need all the luck they can get!

  Was anyone removed from Bethel for suggesting the Governing Body were the "Faithful Slave"?

  i remember reading somewhere a reference to ones at bethel being removed for suggesting that the governing body was the faithful and discreet slave, years before the org.

  made this change.

  am i wrong about this?

  The Book Study Group - Reminiscing

  any fond memories or funny stories relating to the old book study arrangement?.

  i remember a time when a new sister turned up with very smart jacket and shirt.

  yet she was wearing trousers and when questioned by everyone she said "blimey, i think geoff (her husband) is wearing my skirt!".

  I used to wonder what it would be like if every single loony in the cong was all assigned to the same book study..

  Be careful what you wish for as that happened in a hall I attended and my dad was assigned to take the group.

  We had 'Dame Edna Everage and her bumbling husband.

  Simon, who thought he was gods gift to women and his frumpy wife.

  'Dangerous Dave' a constantly sweating drug addict who beat his Pam Ayres type wife whenever the mood took him.

  Brother Jim a dead ringer for Basil Fawlty in looks and behaviour.

  Scotch Sister Franny who thought the elders and the cong were like the social services and should be feeding, providing and decorating for her constantly.

  Her son Colin. The most spoilt brat kid you have ever encountered.

  Dame Edna's son was a big hulking bully. He worked my little brother Martin over really badly - I retaliated and really duffed him up.

  His dad approached my dad after the book study. He said to my dad, "Martin has been badly attacked!:

  My dad said 'That's awful. is he ok?' He said 'No, he's not ok, and it was your oldest son that attacked him..'

  I said, 'Yeh. because he beat my little brother up - look at him!!'

  Blood was running down my little brothers face.

  My dad said 'Did you beat Dame Edna's son up?' I replied 'Yes I did, and if comes near my little brother again I will really smash his face in, and his cretin dad's too!!'

  Dame Edna's husband grabbed his son, muttered something incomprehensible and beat a hasty retreat.

  Yes, the book study, peace and love and all that man!!

  Lovely memories!

  Aged about 5 I loved to crawl under the book study chairs till I reached an old cranky sister everybody hated but was frightened of.

  She wore big built up black shoes. I used to tie her shoes and shoelaces all together stealthily, like James Bond so she toppled over when she stood up at the end of the group.

  She spat out 'Who did this!!'

  Fearlessly (or foolishly) I stood up and yelled 'Me!!'...

  She glared at me like the wicked witch from the Wizard Of Oz for a few seconds and then said 'Good, I like a child with a strong character!'

  Bizarrely after that we sort of became life-long friends - perhaps she recognised a fellow lunatic when she saw one!

  What Disadvantages?

  As might be expected, an electronic calculator is not all advantages. There are disadvantages, and it is wise for you to consider them. For one thing, having a calculator is going to involve some money, time and attention. How much would you use it? In your case the few occasions when you would really be helped by having a calculator might not justify the cost, even with the recent low prices. Do you want to put money into something that you may not need, or that may be just a toy for a few days?

  Also, it will take you some time to learn how to use a calculator. You will have to think about repairs if it breaks. And what about getting batteries for it periodically if it is of the type that requires such? Good questions to consider.

  Another thing, how might having an electronic calculator affect your present ability to do mathematics? One man from Illinois got into the habit of using his even for simple addition or multiplication of a few small numbers. Later he observed: ‘When I had to figure something out without my calculator, I found I was much slower than before. It was harder to do simple calculations, things I had learned as a child and formerly could do easily.’ Hence, he decided to use his electronic calculator only when he faced long, tedious mathematics, such as adding columns of figures, when working out many percentages or averages, or when speed and accuracy were vital.
