Moral Rigidity vs Ethical Rigidity

recently i have been pondering about the witnesses self proclaimed "moral superiority" to the outside world.

how can one person's chosen moral be superior to another person's chosen moral?

to quantify the difference betwen morals is to test their percieved benefits, and detriments, in the societies that accept them.

i know we have had threads like this in the past, but technology marches on and maybe there are new things to use these days..

FHN I live on the bottom floor also. I have to stand by the patio door if I want good reception on my cell phone.. If I was going to cut back I think I would stay with basic cable only and rent movies if I was in the mood. Or watch movies on the computer..a computer that can show on your TV screen is nice.. My computer screen is small.

I had my camping in the rough, sleeping in sleeping bags , peeing on the ground at night cause the outhouse is too far and it's dark outside and lugging water from the well , flies while you're trying to cook and eat and all that other good stuff camping days...

I will just wait for the pictures and play like I was there...

youngest doesn't look too happy leaving meeting,,he doesn't seem to like the jw look and feel of tie and jacket.

The girl has on thong sandals..since when could you wear something other than closed toed shoes? The girls got counseled if they even wore shoes (high heels) without panty hose..
And the dress/blouse had to have full sleeves! No sleeveless or cap sleeves..

I guess some things do change. I also noticed a lady in the back wearing a slack suit? A BIG no no back in the 60's and early 70's..

Give them enough time and maybe they will end up like all other religions and celebrate holidays and quit the shunnning crud..

FHN, I am in the same boat. I was paying $107. a month for all 3 for a year and I just got a notice that the year is over and it is now $149 a month!

They will lock me in at $114. if I will comit for two years..I'm not about to do that and I am sure the $114. doesn't include taxes etc.

I have been looking around and am going to try ATT U-verse as it seems like everyone says how cheap it is right now. I just got a letter from someone in the mail (not Att letterhead or envelope) that claims I can get ATT Long distance included for $14.95 a month.. I would grab it but it looks like a mass mailing by an individual..don't know what to think about it.

I have to have a landline for security hooked up to the building and in case of a 9-11 emergency.

As far as the free phones gofor it! My daughter got two. One for her and one for her school age son. I don't know where you live but she is in Illinois. I am sure you can get them if they offer them in the area you live in. Go for it! She said they didn't even check her income.(.if they did they would have found out she made too much).

Wish I could offer something better but I am going to be doing some calling ..

Have you tried calling them and seeing what kind of deals they may have going now? Stupid me, they called me right before my time was up (which I didn't know) and offered to give me all of what I had plus U verse for only 114. a month..that included taxes. After I found out they raised my amount I called and tried to get the special deal but they wouldn't give it to me then..Grrr...

It's soooo hot!

it's 27 degrees celsius today = about 35 in my flat, which is about 95 degf for the americans.. .

my friends in tx say it's been over 100 degf for about 2 months ... i don't have ac, but a fan on me .... .

how do you deal with the heat?.

Between 85 and 98 degrees here in Mo. I am on the bottom floor of my condo's..my electric bill is never over $80. Most of the time it is $30. - $40. a month. I have the air conditioning on most of the time but it doesn't run all the time..one of the finer points of being on the lower level..but the steps will get you!.

I remember when the kids were little back in the 60;s. It was in the 100's. Before AC..We had the big box fans going all over the house and we kept the blinds closed and the windows closed..it was so hot you could hardly breathe..
Our back yard had a lot of shade and the kids and I would fill their kiddie pool and lay in it to cool off..

People talk about the good old days but that wasn't included..I love AC in the hot summer!

My daughters MIL is in her 80's and she still drives all over town and has all kinds of meeting with the girls she goes to..and you talk like it's all over?..Time for you to take horse riding lessons or parachuting out of a plane Gracie..

I started a topic on this on facebook. My question was if they get married in NY and then go to another state where gay marriage is not legal are they still married..?

Why would they agree that it is a legal marriage if it is only legal in the states that accept gay marriage? A regular marriage is legal in all states..why not the gay marriage too?

Will all insurance companies honor this marriage for insurance purposes?

Will their work companies allow them to be put on their health insurance? Even in another state that doesn't accept gay marriage?

If not why even bother?(For legal reasons)

This is the reply I got when approaching a JW friend of mine in Australia on their child molesting issues:

Well, I see nothing better. This is what I want. I never blame Jehovah for what men do. Even in the organization. It's insidious men led by Satan. Of course they are inside as well as out. I don't know about policies. I know that we were told that any cases were to be reported to police, this by an elder whose daughter was molested

I really don't think the witnesses ever said anything or admitted that any of th eones in the congregation were possibly led by Satan before..and theirs congregation seems to be the only one that tells its members to report any cases to the police! At least the only one I know of. And note it says that the Elders daughter was molested but it doesn't say by who..
