I recall reading about a concept called a "diagonal tax," which is a clumsy name, but an interesting option. Exempt all income up to a certain amount, then tax anything above that at a flat rate. It doesn't solve the issue of representation, but it simplifies things without placing a burden on the poorest people.
I understand that in some countries, taxes are simpler and assessed by the government via a straightforward calculation. The tax code in the USA is very complex, and any attempts to simplify it run afoul of the lobby for tax prep companies (which are often arms of large finance firms), which make a lot of money by navigating the complex mess of taxes for citizens. It'd be great to have a simplified tax system. What we have now is so complex that you can go to great pains to do your taxes correctly and still run afoul of the law. And the government, through the IRS, can be brutal in its treatment of citizens who underpay by even small amounts.
The same IRS, mind you, which is now the beneficiary of additional billions in government funds intended to increase its size by some 87,000 workers...

happy if simon wants to incorporate this link into the cedars post, i just could t make it post there and vintage was asking for it .
The old one probably injured himself from laughing.
i had to laugh.. i bumped into a friend who has started going back to the meetings and who has that enthusiastic arm-waving way of talking about the stuff they're hearing from the platform.. in part he's wittering on about some talk they'd had about king david and all of his ups and downs.
and says, "and as the speaker emphasized over and over again, we can imitate david because he was a man just like ourselves.".
" i finally interrupted.. that shut him up.
King David summoned a married woman to his chambers and had sex with her, then he tried to cover it up and finally arranged for the death of her husband in order to take her as his own wife. God was so angry when he saw this that he... killed David's newborn son.
Maybe people want to empathize with King David because he literally got away with murder, and possibly with kidnap and rape. And anytime he angered God, other people paid the price with their lives. Then he was rewarded by becoming part of the lineage that would lead to the birth of Christ. Kind of a charmed life, when you think about it.
for those of you who still respect the bible, which translation/s are you using now?
why?.
I usually go to biblehub.com if I want to read it or find specific passages. I prefer the NIV and ESV.

2022-10-04-mandatory reporting training.
2022-10-04-questions and answers concerning the online course for mandatory reporting.. .
Thanks, Atlantis.
I chuckled at seeing the "mandatory reporting training" and then the "QA regarding the mandatory reporting training." I would imagine the first Q/A would be:
Q: Do we really have to do this?
A: You'd better, if you know what's good for you.

The thing is, even that cautiously-crafted statement will not prevent Evans from feeling that O'Donnell betrayed him. He may not come out and say it directly, but he's saying that Evans actions are questionable at best, and contemptible in light of his activities involving CSA investigations. I think by now, it's pretty clear that if you do not support Evans 101%, he will see you as an enemy and antagonist. If Mark thinks that he might once again find himself in Lloyd's good graces, he may not realize that getting back on his good side would likely involve a full retraction and apology and a promise to never even think of crossing him. And Evans would never let him live it down, either, because he's not the kind to forgive and forget.
so a few years i watched a lecture series by a man named dr. micheal heiser called the two powers in heaven, jesus in the old testament.
funny thing was it wasn't even very evangelical in nature, so i turned off my religious binders and just watched it like a regular person.
it turns out that the new testament is a hinge point in the bible.
I don't know if it does or doesn't. But if they do not bring up their view of the trinity, or if they do not emphasize it, they might also attract people who might otherwise turn them away.

They may also be ignoring it because they need all the converts they can get, and anything that might prevent people from joining or staying will get short shrift in the hopes that it doesn't become an issue for them.
Without knowing how much those men are making, it's difficult to determine how fair the system was.
But also, that's not quite an accurate representation of the tax system either. It's possible that, after the bartender gave the group a break, the last four men would be paid to drink beer (tax credits).
And of course, if that tenth guy was Elon Musk, he might have paid the largest booze bill in human history... or not paid anything at all.
I guess I could keep going. The point is, the tax system in the USA is fucked.
