The descriptions of elders in the reply to the reader's question above do not fit any elder I have ever known. The answer contemplates an ideal situation with ideal people performing an ideal function. In real life, elders are the biggest bunch of prying, nosy bastards on earth, seeking titillation with every question. Any decent church would have burned them all long since.

how is a regular week as a jw?number of meetings and hours of service bible studys etc.?.
do they celebrate any holidays or have any holidays of their own?.
what jobs can a jw not be?.
Don't forget that you study the Watchtower before the Sunday congregation study, which should be deeper then just the 45 minutes spent by the congregation.
Same for whatever book is being studied for the congregation book study.
You need to do the Bible reading and study the Kingdom Ministry for any articles that are going to be question and answer that week too.

i was thinking (as i am wont to do) while driving this weekend, about god killing 279 million americans of the us kind at the big a. it is hypothetical, but something the 900,000 jws here in us believe.
is god so cruel that along with all the people he is going to kill all their pets too?
after all with 50 million households or more, most of which have at least a dog or a cat, (many one or more of each, plus fish, birds, snakes and whatever) who will care for all those animals once the people are zapped.

i noted a long thread earlier that dealt with the frequency with which jws will accept medical practices that are far out of the mainstream.
kinesiology, and herbs, and the like were all mentioned, and there was much discussion about whether these things should be taken seriously or not.
i do not want to get into such a discussion, but wanted to talk about why i think jws are so frequently involved in such health pursuits.. someone mentioned that jws are trained to be suspicious of the medical establishment, and that's right.
I'm not taking any of the "homo" medicine!!

When then president Fred Franz met his long delayed end in late 1992, I'm sure that the revisions to his precious 1914 generation doctrine started almost immediately thereafter. i don't know what conjured this memory up... maybe it was the cabbage patch dolls/bedtime story thread.... when i was a kid, maybe 10 years old, bodily functions were hilarious in my house (even for us girls).
it was common for one of us kids to "let one rip" and dad to feign irritation and say, "who did that?!
" (it was even funnier when the culprit was my mother, who would invariably blame the youngest child for the gasseousness.).
God forbid we do that in our house! It's like bodily functions don't even exist to MY mother!!

Well, I understand that it is going to be the second half of the Book of Isaiah.
I would recommend that you go on Sunday at lunch, wear a tie, get in line at a literature counter and get a book! Simple. If I rememeber correctly, the proper formula for a book release is Saturday afternoon talk -> book.
So Sunday at lunch, it would be really easy to just go and get it!!
p.s. With all those people milling around, it will be really easy to "forget" to contribute too.
