fred, you do not even know what jesus looked like.... your descriptive comments about him, are straight out of a hollywood version of his life, but then what can we expect from you...??? even the WTS does not know what jesus looked like (and they have divine direction thru him, don't they???? )LOL!!!!

once they were absolutely sure the jesus was clean shaven, and so presented him as such, and said that "false" religion "wrongly " presented him with a beard.. and this was the subject of much discussion ......then came " new light ". the WTS "listened" to worldly experts and became convinced that Jesus would likely have worn a beard-- so the pix in the WT publications changed and jesus wore a nice, neatly trimmed (sanitised) beard -- well, you could not have him wearing a "taliban" beard, could you????

such shit!!!!

and what do you really know of buddha, and the presentation of him through images??? not much i suspect.

buddha is presented in many forms --- your focus on the representations that depict him as "fat", and your ensuing derogatory comments, is a bit rich, since you come from the fattest nation that the world has ever seen!!!!! (as the Awake once said - 4 asians can live on the food consumed by one american)

thank you fred hall, for reminding me how dumb most of those in dub city really are!!!! sometimes i forget !!!

i visited thailand a couple of years ago -- went to a temple in bangkok, i sensed i was in the presence of a real spirituality - of the type you NEVER find in a kingdom hall.

i wonder why that is???? How can 6,000,000 religious people (studying the bible 3 times a week) produce hardly anyone with a spiritual presence????

guess, they have all been "hovaed" (heavied) into submission.....

if you go along with jw theology.. then all the above is quite logical...

and, in fairness -- most of the brothers when discussing something like this will use the word " may " as in " may be like this...."

that is the way it should be, since no-one knows for sure....!!

logically, if there is a resurrection to life on earth, we could expect a god with organised thinking to perform it in some logical way...

someone will be first.... someone will be last....

the fact, that i (or you) NO longer believe in god or a resurrection to earth OR heaven... does not make this teaching of jws, logical or illogical in itself.

i wonder how many jws r aware that candles have pagan origins as admitted by bishop newman(sp?

) in the 19th century?

should a faithfull jw have anything to do with candles therefore?

the discussion itself is a little light hearted -- but it does highlight something interesting about life in dub city.....

that is, that in addition to the teaching promulgated by the F&DS, there exists another body of teaching, that emanates from strong minded (and sometimes weird) people..

so long, as this is "exclusive", that is excluding "worldly" things and ideas, those in authority do not take much notice..

but, the moment it becomes "inclusive" suggesting the incorporation of an idea or practise from the world ..... BANG!!!!!.... shit hits the fan..

example, --- it's OK to warn against candles, but trying suggesting placing 2 lighted candles on the table at the Memorial!! LOL!!

Actually, such a practise would not be out of harmony with any bible text, but would be seen by too many brothers as something from fales worship..

i believe that i fair minded about thsoe who still live in dub city (check some of my recent posts if u want verification).......

but this matter - that is, the way that elders deal with and supposedly "assist" those with emotional or mental problems - is a matter that the group should be deeply ashamed about.

Yes! many elders are kind and patient, but there are many who are NOT.

And irrespective, of personal kindness, none that I ever knew had any professional training in dealing with these types of problems. Some, i have known had bizarre ideas about it... and ALL have the conceit that Jehovah has given them some special power to HELP the sheep.

So, pity those poor souls, who, encouraraged to cut off all association with the "world", and then having mental/emotional problems -- are in the hands of some untrained elder and his ignorant conceptions of the way that mental illness should be dealt with.....

this is one of the saddest things about life in dub city. like i said they should be deeply ashamed of the way that some elders have dealt with this type of problem.

i am with amac & orangefatcat--

in near 40 years association i naver heard of candles being seen as demonic -- and as has been pointed out - candles were once (for many people) the only source of illumination in their homes..

association with demonic worship (which is just a matter of where you are looking from) could only be through the same function..

However, I also believe those of you who point out that some in dub city have a problem with candles.. which only goes to prove that they are NOT SO BRIGHT --- SORRY!!! LOL

i think we should keep some balance on this tragedy....

i was in youth group when i was a kid, and know that kids are capable of doing really stupid things (and some adults are also).

the ages of those involved tells me that here was a group of people letting their hair down, the camping trip was a chance to escape the rigidity of "normal" ** life.

and in reading this account and previous accounts on this board i do not see anything really sinister. as most of you know, i am also gay, and i am not seeing anything that indicates to me that there were "gay" activities happening (as some seem to think that wearing a bra would mean).. the same sort of behaviour can be seen on australian TV in the "FOOTY SHOW" etc. maybe a bit childish, but not sinister.

if something sinister did happen on this trip, i think that it is still secret, and would have only 1 or 2 people involved ..

otherwise, as ordinary humans we should feel compassion for the family at the loss of a son in what was meant to be a happy time, that went horribly wrong...

i no longer believe that jws are a "special" group being used by god...

but, i also do not believe that they are demons ( in spite of fred halls best efforts to protray them that way) -- they are just like us.... just abit confused about their life-- that's all!!!

so there is no need to look for evil in everything that involves the witnesses...!!

** and "normal" life in dubcity is even more rigid than for most of us who now live anywhere but dub city.

i have noted this type of attitude veri often -- and it is very strange..

here we have an organisation that is established to preach the good news in all the world (clearly, to people of the "world")..

i was 17 when i walked into dub city (voluntararily) looking for an escape from my personal demons -- and i guess i found a place where i could exorcise them and keep them at bay.. for they stayed away for decades----but cheeeeee, when they came back -- they were a tidal wave. but this post is about others.

i'm running thru a list of all the families i knew and were close to....

i doan think that my own kids were unbalanced, well!! they were badly shocked about me (of course -- dubville is not too kind to faggots!!!)..

youngest has left dub city -- but that is more my ex-wives fault... she started yelling at him (he was about 14) in the middle of meeting that she could smell smoke on him and that he was demonised -- bet that gave the gossip circuit something to talk about for a long time...when he got home his clothes had been thrown out onto the front lawn, so he went and lived with another family (school friend) for several months..

can you really imagine this???? and this was all kept secret from me. so yeah!! he has some problems, but based much more on family events (me) than dub city philosophy.

My two daughters are older than him and seem reasonable human beings, with a life outside the congregation.

aah! well, probably my fault too....
