Would YOU Have Died For The Witness Religion?
by minimus inwould you have not taken a blood transfusion or a transplant because the gb said it was bad?.
would you have imitated the jws in concentration camps and died for your beliefs?.

Yep. Totally would have died. HERE IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING.
Even when I was doing backstrokes in the Kool-Aid, when my first child came around, I told myself that if he really needed blood or he would die...I would give it to him. I reasoned that since he was a baby, and couldn't make the decision, he would still be able to be approved by God. I would be held accountable and not make it, but if I didn't involve my wife in the decision, he could still make it under her if he was a minor. Brilliant!
Sounds so crazy now. That was the beginning of the end for me in regards to thinking Jehovah is so cruel as to force someone to do such a thing.
I even shared this totally logical normal idea with a couple close friends, and that is when I knew I had an issue.

funny conversation with JW from long ago
by Hortensia ina couple i used to know, about 20 years ago, contacted me recently to see how i am.
that is surprising enough, but then in the course of the conversation, after he said he and his wife are still "publishers in good standing" i said i am as atheist as you can get.

Man alot of blanket statements here about JW love and things like that. I know many of you have been through terrible things. I too have been through some stuff I haven't shared yet. But man, those kind of blanket statements just don't sound very good.
Of course you guys haven't talked in 20 years, so not exactly a friend to begin with I guess.

Transfusion and Eating no difference?
by Marvin Shilmer intransfusion and eating no difference?.
today i added a new article to my blog addressing what watchtower says in public view about transfusion versus eating compared to what it admits in private about transfusion and eating.
its short and sweet, and of course documented.

Hey guys lay off the troll statements. Everyone here has been bullied, and it was clearly a debate thread. Don't do what you condemn on other boards. Just sayin is all.
@Ethos. Blood is a topic I am pretty in the middle of you might say. Specifically in regards to eating vs transfusing there are a few things to consider, some of which have already been mentioned. In particular, that eating is not a substitute for blood, and blood is not a substitute for food. So while they both "nourish" the body (although that might be an oversimplification), their function is very different. So here is where it falls back on all of us to be intellectually honest. The bible says "eat". It does not say nourish. If it used whatever greek equivalent for "nourish" there was, I suppose there would be a better arguement for you.
My personal view is not that someone should or should not take blood in any form. It is simply that it is ambiguous enough a directive to be a conscience matter. Instead it is a disfellowshipping offence, provided one has not repented of their decision. If their conscience dictate they accept blood or give it to their minor child, the punishment is disfellowshipping.
Back to the topic. Bloods INTENDED PURPOSE is to course through the veins. One cannot substitute a blood transfusion for a gallon of blood through the mouth. (yuck). Why could a Christians conscience not tell them that the Noachian creed, and the reassertion of that creed in Acts as being added to the law of Christ, stopped at a "misuse" of blood, menaing not being used for its intended purpose? As in....intended by Jehovah.

Hello everyone,
While I am still kind of new on my journey here, and may have a mixed bag of similarties and differences with all of you, I am in fact fading away from the religion of my youth. In doing so, I have mostly been left alone. Meaning, my friends and family generally know I am "having a hard time" with a few things. My wife is supportive and even feels the same way about some things, and generally I have to say, most of the hard stuff, is going on inside of me. I also have had to good sense to not share my feelings with those that do not deserve them. :)
Now it is getting to where a few people out of good meaning, that really care about me as a person, are doing what their heart tells them to do, which is to reach out to me. So I have a few dinner invites coming up. Usually from a well meaning dude at the hall, or guy who "has been there", or something to that effect.
I won't just come clean and explode on any of these guys. I don't want to hurt their faith or convince them of anything in particular overtly. it doesn't seem to work anyways, and could make my life much more difficult.
I DO want to be able to plant some seeds in a way that I know they have to think to themselves later, or at least bring the cognative dissonance right to the front of their mind. I am after some ideas or thoughts on what to address in a tactfull thinking way, when I have these dinners and guys basically ask me "so whats up?" I of course assume the same things like, who else is preaching today, who else doesn't go to war, who else has such unity, who else shall we go to, and the rest.
Any thoughts?

Greetings! From an Existent JW!

i think this forum's best moments can be attributed to the involvement of actual jw's in doctrinaire discussions and to heated (though not always dialectic) debates.

I agree with Marvin. I personally, would fight the fight to NOT be disfellowshipped simply because of what it would do to my friends and family. It sounds like you are in a different circumstance.

^^^If that was true, that would certainly be dishonest and not cool at all. Hopefully it is not true.
@FW - So can you share with me the proof of the teaching in 1919 regarding atonement you pointed out? Is it based solely on the book you mentioned and the assumption it was still regarded as truth at the time, or is it something ever in the Watchtower of the time. The reason I ask, is that back then as I do not have to tell you, it was much more simple and easy to chalk things up to "figuring things out" since there was no real enforcement of teachings. I am keying in on a few things, and 1919 is one of them. i would love to gather some more information.
