Sorry to hear of your recent ordeal, but glad you are feeling better. Try to rest some more, even as you feel better, for it can take a while to completely recover from a flu.

i am finally able to get out of my bed.
the flu sucks and i wouldnt wish for anyone to go thru what i just went thru this whole last week.. 102 fever that just would not go away.

i don't believe in re-inventing the wheel.
arguments about atheism, chronology, trinity, evolution can go on forever.. i like to bring up positions that are unpopular on this forum because most of the people here have given up their examination of certain issues assuming that they have "now" got the real truth.. the lack of critical thinking that is the cause of involvement in off-beat religions can lead to gullibility in other areas.
the stupid knee-jerk accusations i got when i attacked the molestation issue is typical.

Every time someone says they can violate the laws of gravity, I point out that I have the REAL TRUTH about gravity and disagree with them.
(Some subjects can have a resolution to truth, or with so much evidence in favor of them as to be nonsensical to believe otherwise.)
flying down the interstate, on my way to class (late again!
) when i notice this strange smell in my van...gets worse the closer i get to school.
so i turn around and head back down the interstate towards home, knowing that something is wrong (i'm smart that way).
Nice story, Dana. May your Valentine Day tomorrow be filled with unalloyed joy, not the turning-lemons-into-lemonade variety.
forgive me if someone already posted this.
last night after the larry king show, there was a newsnight program on cnn about the priests who are child molesters and how the catholic church is trying to deal with them.
it was a good listen, and much of it will be familiar because of the jw issues on the same situation.
This cartoon seems appropriate...for both religions:

where do you go to meet a good man?
don't want to go to a bar, where all the men are drunks.
don't want to date anyone i work with anymore, it's too awkward.
but blind dates suck
Would you like a blind date, then?
Sorry, couldn't resist the obvious setup line...
here in the land of oz we're enjoying watching our expert commentators, roy slaven and h g nelson, bringing the winter olympics to us on the seven network.
if you guys and gals can catch it, it's worth it, even to see what the sydney olympians enjoyed in 2000.. already they have given expert commentary on the figure skating events.. do you know what these expressions in figure skating mean:.
staining the ice?.
outnfree,
I so wish I could get Canadian coverage of these games, because the American coverage is a joke.
For the first day's medal ceremony, the host introduced the ceremony, we saw for a couple of minutes some artistic dancing introducing it, the host cut in and basically apologized for forcing us to watch something that wasn't bottom-line oriented. We later got the medal ceremony, taped, so they could feed it to us in bite-size portions.
When you have the Olympics in your own backyard, and you still don't get to watch them live, it stinks.
When you have an event where an American is not competive, and yet they talk more about him or her than the talented athletes from other countries that finish first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth....etc., it stinks.
When you have a sporting event where there is as much commercial time as sports time, it stinks.
When you have the Olympic organization banning live coverage any other way so you are stuck watching what NBC spoon-feeds us, it stinks.
Oh well, I'll try to watch some events anyway, so that I can at least see the athletes do their thing...in five-minute bites...sigh.

Well, here in the U.S., our 'hometown' coverage sucks big, big time. We could be watching live, but NBC figures they would rather tape it for later consumption. So while the snowboarders were going live today at 12 noon (ET), NBC didn't bother beginning its coverage until 3pm. Then they cut back and forth, focusing on the key names while not showing the rest of the competitors, undercutting with backstories, filler, and commercials aplenty.
The same is true for most of the coverage. They could do it live, but would rather slice and dice the coverage so that we barely get more than 5 minutes of coverage at a time. They must think Americans are so moronic we get bored in a couple of minutes, only care about the American athletes or (if necessary, sigh) the best athletes if they are from another country.
I am beginning to despise the way these Olympics are being trashed by NBC.
has anybody thought of joining survivor or fear factor?
i was just wonderin..........
I live in the U.S. and I've never even seen those shows. Can't bothered with orchestrated 'reality' shows.
However, I would imagine there is a certain personality type that would want to be on those shows. And if ever there was a country where people are willing to humiliate themselves publicly in order to get free publicity, it's the U.S.
just in case you passed it by, ciro aulicino from bethel speaks out on armageddon, muslims and the king of the north, reading apostate literature, and what the watchtower did after sept. 11th to help.
a must listen!.

slipslidemaster,
Yes, that was very clever of you and just the way JWs would reason. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see that reasoning in a WTS book one day. The only correction I would make is that the U.S. didn't go after Afghani Muslims at all, but Taliban who are not from Afghanistan. Both are Muslims, however, so your overall point holds up.
As for the talk transcript, here are some random thoughts:
But there’s a development that has been going on, the rivalry between the radical king of the North and the democratic King of the South… Two great powers. How they’re going to run into this, I don’t know, and I’m not predicting, and none of us should.Let's not predict.
But let’s see what as going to happen:Oh, let's do it anyway!
Now who are the many, here, that he is going to devote to destruction and annihilate? It is not the King of the South, the Anglo-American world power because the Bible tells us in Daniel 7:26 and Daniel 8:25 that he will be totally destroyed without human hands, by the heavenly armies under Michael, or Jesus Christ. So that leaves him out. Who are the many? Let’s let God answer. Let’s turn to Revelation 17:16 and we’re going to get a clue. And when you read that you’re going to say ‘my, they are many.’Populous? I thought the people were streaming out of false religion like waters receding from the great city? That in just a few years there won't be any priests left, and no one goes to church any more. Oops, I guess that one turned out wrong so now it's time to turn the message 180 degrees. Oh yeah, we never said what we used to say.Rev 17: 16 [ten horns (including King of the North) and wild beast will hate harlot and devastate her…]
Yes, we’re talking about the populous realm of false religion, you see.
Now who is the identity of this Scarlet-colored wild beast—we have to look at them—who God destines to devastate BtheG? Well (and who helps us to see the King of the North’s role in this attackt) it’s the United Nations. The seven-headed, ten-horned monstrosity that she’s riding today, which she has been stroking and cooing sweet names ever since its establishment in 1945.Paging the UN! Did you know the NGO agreement with the WTS was signed by someone who calls you a "monstrosity"?
Their economy’s in threat. Look at what’s happening to the US, the stock market. That’s going to happen to the whole world. The whole economy is dependent. It’s not one stock market, and the rest can go on. No, the whole thing is like a domino. You Know, is that you?! Hehe, look folks, yet another JW clueless about the financial markets. By the time Ciro gave this talk in October, the markets had already recovered from their 9/11 dip. Oh well, who wants facts anyway?
someone just gave me this information at a local community project in town, interesting i thought, you too might like to see it.
plus, what does this mean in terms of public freedom.. un meeting hears proposal for global human database, i.d.

It's not true. Any web site set up with a permanent page that says the U.N. did something "today" without any links to actual sources is guaranteed to be an urban legend.
