the u.s. government is returning john walker to the states for trial.

what do you consider an appropriate punishment for his mis-deeds?.

i think, he should be[if found guilty]stipped of his citizenship and returned to somewhere in the mideast to spend the rest of his life,with no possibility to return to the u.s. for any reason.

The mob mentality I referred to was all the comments that want to do him harm right now, before the trial, before they know the facts. Remember, the media routinely lies to us, so what they have told us about Walker may or may not be true. It is possible we are being manipulated by propaganda into thinking things are far worse than they appeared.

Or it could be that Walker is as guilty as charged, in which case I support whatever punishment the law allows -- not the torture being suggested in this thread either.

I THINK THIS WHOLE SITUATION WITH THIS RODRIQUEZ LADY IS RIDICULOUS. I WAS MOLESTED BY THE PRESIDING OVERSEER IN THE CONGREGATION FOR SEVEN YEARS AND AT NO TIME WAS MADE TO BELIEVE THAT IT WAS MY FAULT BY THE ELDERS AND CONGREGATION WHEN I FINALLY TOLD. THIS MAN WAS DISFELLOWSHIPPED IN A MATTER OF 7 DAYS. AND 5 DIFFERENT BROTHERS FROM BETHEL CALLED AND ENCOURAGED ME AND TOLD ME TO DO WHAT I HAD TO DO AGAINST HIM, THEY NEVER TOLD ME NOT TO TELL THE POLICE, THEY NEVER HELD IT AGAINST ME, AND MY FAMILY. THEY HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT SUPPORTIVE TO ME AND MY FAMILY SINCE THE INCIDENT. SO THIS CLAIM THAT THE ELDERS THREATENED TO DISFELLOWSHIP HER AND TOLD HER TO HIDE IT IS VERY UNBELIEVABLE.

How very nice to hear such an account, and how nice it would be if all cases were handled that way. Sadly, not every body of elders acts this way, and until they do and get educated the way your body of elders seems to be, something needs to be done. Remember, just because something happened one way to you doesn't make it unbelievable that it could happen a different way to someone else. Local bodies of elders often act differently from each other, and there is a wide variance in the way brothers are treated from place to place.

ALSO IN THE JAN 97 WATCHTOWER, PAGES 28,29 IT SPECIFICALLY SAYS THAT A CHILD MOLESTER CANNOT AND WILL NOT EVER HOLD A POSITION IN THE KINGDOM HALL AGAIN AND THEY WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO SAY A PRAYER AGAIN.

Sadly, what you may not be aware of is that this was rescinded in a later letter to the elders only.

SO FOR ALL THE PEOPLE CLAIMING THAT A LOT OF THE ELDERS, ANOINTED ONES AND MINISTERIAL SERVANTS ARE STILL HOLDING POSITIONS IS VERY UNLIKELY BECAUSE IT HAS TO GO THROUGH JEHOVAH'S HOLY SPIRIT AND BETHEL.

Bethel yes, but not holy spirit, as the brothers in Bethel will admit if you press them. And since many of us personally know current elders and ministerial servants who are molestors, the problem does exist.

I THINK THAT THIS LAWYER IS JUST TRYING TO MAKE SOME MONEY AT THE EXPENSE OF THE BROTHERS WHO VOLUNTARILY DONATE TIME AND MONEY TO KEEP THE ORGANIZATION GOING. BUT WHAT THIS LAWYER DOESN'T REALIZE IS THAT THESE BROTHERS ARE NOT EMPLOYEES SO THERE FORTH THE SOCIETY DOES NOT COVER THEM WITH INSURANCE.

I can't speak for the lawyers, and neither can you. But the problems are real, regardless.

YOU KNOW WHAT A LOT OF YOU NEED TO DO IS PRAY TO JEHOVAH AND ASK FOR THE STRENGTH TO MAKE IT OUT OF A BAD SITUATION AND THROW YOUR BURDENS UPON HIM AND QUIT FEELING LIKE THE VICTIM AND GET ON WITH YOUR LIVES.

Survivors of childhood sexual abuse cannot do this without gettting help. It's not like breaking your arm. You don't just get over this. If you have never been such a victim, count yourself most fortunate that you won't ever realize the pain such persons go through. A little empathy is called for here.

JUST REMEMBER THAT JEHOVAH IS FOR US AND NOT AGAINST AND ANYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH HIS ORGANIZATION WILL COME OUT...

" that's because the ridiculer doesn't just ridicule old men in brooklyn, or the bible, or the religion of their family; rather those so inclined ridicule reality itself.

the beauty of the truth, though, is that it is irrepressible, so much so that even some of the sons of this system can, by the power of reason, unknowingly arrive at the same conclusion jehovah forsaw centuries before.

You Know has learned his lessons well from the WTS school of thought. They are notorious for taking a few facts, or a specific example, and spinning an entire article that generalizes to the point of being wrong. The type of article that begins with an anecdote about how crime is increasing in some little Italian hamlet and then extrapolating from that to suggest that crimes is horrific everywhere.

You Know does the same thing. He is intelligent, and reads a lot, and he gets a few things right. He then spins totally wrong conclusions from those few spare facts.

Does the media serve up propaganda? Yes.

Is Larouche intelligent? Yes, he is.

Are there financial swindles afoot? Sure.

From those facts, however, You Know spins fanciful tales of woe that have little to do with reality. Larouche is smart, but also wrong. The media covers for the corporations and government, but they also have good reason to mostly ignore Larouche. There are Enrons in the business world, but it doesn't mean the entire financial system is about to crumble.

Remember, You Know has been pushing these same predictions for at least the last 5 years in a row, and for the last 5 years in a row nothing he has predicted has come true. Nothing.

How could I possibly know? What are his deeds? I don't know. What is his defense? I don't know. What factors came into play? I don't know. Is the U.S. government lying about him? I don't know.

Let the guy have a trial and then we'll know the answers to these questions. Until then, what on earth is this vindictive rush to judgment all about? Whatever happened to the concept of innocent until proven guilty? A few news stories appear and people are ready to kill?? Talk about progagandistic manipulation in action! This is mob mentality.

Secret military tribunals and historical precedent

the subject of secret military tribunals has been raised here in recent months, and i've made no secret of my displeasure at such moves.

it was pointed out to me that president lincoln also did this, something i was not aware of.

however, i have recently read an article in the feb. 2002 issue of the atlantic monthly that discusses the world war ii precedent cited by bush for these tribunals.

really? there was no revenge taken on nyc?

None that I am aware of. The attacks on Washington and NYC on 9/11 have never been traced to the trials that I've heard, but have been traced to many other motives. They tried to destroy the WTC the first time, and their bombs weren't strong enough. So they tried again. It had nothing to do with the trials.

leaving congregation meetings has given me the opportunity to see all the films that a group of old men, many of which have little or no respect for the world of art, have told me not to see.

i saw a lot of films from last year since i got my bachelor's degree, in the midst of a job search (which has now ended)...anyway, these were the best films i saw from last year.

Yeah, that's my take too. The movie opens with her asleep, after all, and she several times refers to this being "like a dream" and then 2/3 of the way through the cowboy says, "Time to wake up, pretty girl" and she does wake up. So my view is that the first 2/3 are her dream where she takes the people and events from her life and fits them into a better version than the reality she is living. Then she wakes up, has a brief scene in the present moment, and then the rest of the movie is a series of flashbacks showing what actually happened, explaining the dream, until the last scene.

A really great movie about how dreams can go unfulfilled life can disappoint and how Hollywood grinds through people. Naomi Watts gave an amazing performance.

We have similar taste in filme. I loved Mulholland Drive, The Deep End, Panic, A.I., and Memento as well.

I also understand Mulholland Drive, something that seems to be rare among movie reviewers. How about you? Did you get it all?

Since that is the definition of "intelligence" I have been using all along, I said what I said. I realize RWC and I don't agree on all aspects of this topic, but at least my intent was understood.
