  SURVEY QUESTIONs

  i'm on the brink of publishing my book.

  here are some survey questions that will help me make some important decisions.. if you were ever going to actually buy a book about an ex-jehovah's witness conscientious objector who went to prison, would you:.

  a. prefer the book to be 8 1/2 x 11 ?.

  the (nobody laugh!) artist in me wants to make sure it sounds exactly the way it is written, so... I'd have to read it myself.

  I'm not laughing at all. In fact, I was kind of hoping you'd say that. I prefer when an author reads their own work. Sam Harris has done it with a couple of his books (Free Will, most recently) as did Christopher Hitchens (RIP ) with God Is Not Great - How Religion Poisons Everything. Seth Andrews (of The Thinking Atheist website and podcast) read his autobiographical work Deconverted - A Journey from Religion to Reason. All of these audiobooks are available at Audible.com.

  I would stand in line around the block and camp out on the doorstep to get your book, read by you, in audiobook format. I would.

  Excuse needed to get out of talk

  i work with the school overseer so he'll be with me all day before the meeting...so being 'sick' isn't an option.

  this really isn't like me to weasel my way out of something....but i've been ridiculously depressed lately and honestly i just don't have it in me to do anything let alone put a talk together.

  everytime i do one it takes allot out of me and let's just say the well is pretty dry.

  You know, there were a few times people made totally unintentional goofs in their prayers. People in the congregation noticed, though, and tongues started wagging (like clockwork!!)

  One Brother™ prayed for Jehovah's blessing through Jesus and the Holy Ghost. OOOOPS!! That got him canned for about six months before they asked him to do another prayer.

  Another Brother™ gave thanks for the hard work of all the Sisters™ in caring for their families, making sure that meals were ready and clothes prepared for Meetings™. Who'd've thunk that would offend anyone... but it did!! (Probably some microphone handler with a Napoleon complex...) This Brother™ was not invited back to give another Public Talk™ for a couple of years...

  Then there was the Brother™ who in the middle of the Watchtower Study™ he was Conducting™ got a weird look on his face, suddenly went pale and passed out right there on the Platform™. A couple of people went over to attend to him, but the Presiding Overseer™ stepped right over him and carried on with the Watchtower Study™... The Show Must Go On!! The Brother™ was relieved of his Conductor™ status for a couple of months.

  What is more important? Money or the message?

  imagine the dilemma..... you have a message to spread, but spreading it may cost you money when selling your property as your message is a little embarassing and weird.... do you paint over it and secure the sale or leave it be and stand by your message in the hope it saves even one more life?.

  it really isn't the same religion i grew up in!

  people have died defending and spreading that message from brooklyn, a message that they would now paint over for the sake of a building sale... .

  This is part of a series on the jw.org website targetting children, called 'Be Jehovah's Friend' or something like that. It's where the original Caleb & Sparlock video is located.

  We could have some fun with this one.

  Sure, "giving makes me happy"...

  • Why don't they show Caleb's mom putting some things from her grocery order into the local Food Bank bin?
  • Why don't they show Caleb's dad going to the blood donor clinic and rolling up his sleeve?
  • Why don't they show Caleb's sister picking vegetables from their garden and giving them to the elderly lady next door?
  • Why don't they show the whole family spending an afternoon at the soup kitchen feeding homeless people?
  • Why don't they show Caleb's family deciding who to invite over to dinner - should it be the Circuit Overseer? or the single mom who's barely making ends meet?
  • Why don't they show Caleb's mom knitting a shawl for a cancer patient in hospital?

  Because those aren't the ways the WTS wants JWs to be "giving", are they?

  Young man walks out of Glasgow convention and commits suicide

  last weekend.

  so unbelievably sad.

  This makes me terribly sad, and unbelievably furious at the same time.

  I remember how devastated I felt after The Memorial™ in 1994, in the throes of severe postpartum depression, having been refused the opportunity to pass the Emblems™. Here they were letting DFd people and complete strangers participate, but because I was suffering from a debilitating mental illness, some idiot Elder­™ decided that I might "partake unworthily" and so instucted the Attendants™ to make sure I was not allowed to handle the wine or the bread.

  It just topped off how horrible I felt at the time, and the next day I ended up in hospital on a suicide watch. I just wanted to spare Jehovah the bother of destroying me at Armageddon™. Thankfully, I had the help of a terrific physician and a skilled psychiatrist, and visiting nurses who restored my faith in humankind and helped me on the road to recovery.

  To know that this kind of mental browbeating is still allowed to happen makes my blood boil.

  I enjoy e-books, but even more, I love audiobooks. There's just something about having a book 'read to me' that makes the experience even better.
