The average JW goes to The Memorial™ to warm a seat and nothing else. I can warm a seat in the comfort of my home, dressed in my pyjamas and accomplish more, while watching my favorite TV shows.

Is this new donation arrangement for real?
by nugget injust read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.
congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.
congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

If they want to get more donations, they're going to have to cave and start letting JWs become sufficiently educated and accumulate their own wealth and financial security.
For decades, they've strongly discouraged higher education and material prosperity as being Snares of Satan the Devil™. Is it really any surprise that the average JW living according to the WTS's demands for a Simple Life™ don't have the kind of disposable income available to them to support the WTS in the manner in which it has become accustomed? And after following The Slave's™ direction for decades, and having nothing to show for their stupidity Obedience™, is it any wonder that JWs are becoming less willing to share their hard earned money with the-monster-that-must-constantly-be-fed, and instead maybe take a real vacation once in a while and maybe spring for a new vehicle instead of buying a pre-owned one? Or maybe help finance their kids' education so they don't get stuck in the same financial rut with a dead-end job, no pension, and nothing to show for all their hard work?
I agree with metatron - I hope this scheme backfires on them BIG TIME. I hope most JWs tell the WTS to eff-off spectacularly, even if they never leave the JWs, by closing their wallets and check books permanently.
CT Russell always said that the day the money stopped coming in would be the day the WTS would close its doors. That day is looming and I hope it comes soon!

Anyone going to the memorial this year?
by Pyramid God ini was invited by my parents, and even though i have nothing but contempt for this religion, things have been good in our relationship so i was considering going just to appease them.

This will be the 20th anniversary of the last Memorial™ I attended. After the way I was treated that night, at a time in my life when I needed support and encouragement the most, there is no way I will ever put myself through that again.
I technically could go - I have no plans for Monday evening - however, and I can't stress this enough, I have no desire to participate in a ritual that perpetuates a religious delusion.

Jehovah's Witness Sex offender's father calls for son's blood refusal to be respected

If he is mentally ill, how on earth can he "adopt" religious beliefs of any kind? The whole concept of capacity comes into play here, and wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that the JWs glommed on to this mentally ill sex offender in the hopes of "rehabilitating" him.
Frankly, this kind of practice disgusts me - for the predatory nature of the JWs in manipulating the mentally ill, plus the possibility that a claim of mental illness attracted the JWs to the convicted sex offender - perhaps this is someone who is putting on a good show and using the JWs to help him be released from incarceration.
I'd be inclined to let him refuse a blood transfusion. The mentally ill have the right to refuse all kinds of help, and they are actually refused help as well if their behaviour is bizarre enough. One less sex offender to worry about, imo.

Since the inception of the Kingdom Hall Building Fund™ in the '80s, congregations who took advantage of the arrangement have always been beholden to the WTS in perpetuity. The Loan™ would be financed based on the amount of property the congregation was able to procure - the Loan™ amount was never more than the collateral afforded by the value of the property.
The KH would be Dedicated™ to the WTS, essentially making it WTS property. Once the building Loan™ was repaid, the WTS then required that a per-publisher amount be donated every month (i.e., RENT) which was the equivalent of a mortgage payment.
FYI, I don't think the legality of acting as a financial institution (being in the business of financing building loans and collecting interest therefrom) has ever been challenged. I didn't think that a charitable organization could do these types of things.

Have You Been Invited To The Memorial?
by minimus inone of my best friend's, who is an ex elder had two elders visit him at his home yesterday to invite him to the memorial.
he was cordial to them because they were'nt over the top.. so far, i have had no invites, thank god..

I haven't been invited in over a decade, not even by my JW relatives. I find that odd, because you'd think if they were so convinced that they had The Truth™, they'd be bending over backward to make sure I at least knew the date. On the other hand, maybe they just think I'm a lost cause. Either way, by not inviting me, aren't they Bloodguilty™ because they didn't even try?

I sleep with a fan going at my bedside.
I also take a medication that has worked wonders for me, and because my estrogen levels are in my boots, I'm on hormone replacement. I'm trying to eat more healthfully (lowering simple carb consumption like breads and sweets), trying to lose some weight, get some regular exercise and sleep at night. I've cut way back on my caffeine consumption - it's a stimulant and seems to trigger the hot flashes.
I got rid of some of the job related stress in my life and it's made a world of difference.
Even now that the flashes are well controlled, I'll get them if I start feeling stressed, so I'm trying to learn how to cope better with the triggers.

Watched 3 season of game of thrones - I want those 25+ hours of my life back
by will-be-apostate inthis is the worst series i've ever watched in my life.
whenever things are starting to get smooth and good characters seem to gain advantage, the writers just kill them.
i've wasted 25+ hours of my life watching how the writers make the bad win over the good.. they make you continue watching by planting the seed in your head that "just a few more episodes and everything is gonna be all right", but no, painful death comes upon anyone who is not cruel and perfidious enaugh.

Rickon is the younger brother of Brandon Stark.
To the OP: If you think watching 3 seasons was a waste of time, I won't even bother recommending a read of the book series. The author routinely kills off terrific characters - that is just 'life' in Westeros. I just finished the 5th book in the series (waiting for the next one to come out) via audiobook. It was more than 35 hours long.

Anyone got a nice, simple recipe for Moussaka???
by quellycatface ini love this dish so much but have never made it.. goodness, i am so obsessed with food..

Scully
Moussaka , from All Recipes (dot com)
I've made this one before, it's quite good. My Greek friends use ground lamb instead of beef and season with a touch of cinnamon as well.
The secret to taking Moussaka from "just okay" to "amazing" is in the Bechamel sauce. If the milk gets burnt even a little, you have to scrap it and start over.

When a JW relative came to visit . . . .
by skeeter1 infor those of you who are shunned, it is in disguise a blessing.
becuase when you are not shunned, jws come to visit.
it is the most tiresome hosting you will ever endure.. for the first 2 1/2 days, it was straight talk about "jehovah", the "organization", the "bible", then, "how bad these times are", "can't wait to see someone dead in the new world" .

One more thing, as irritating as it must have been to listen to JW claptrap for the better part of 4 days, consider this: many JWs are so sheltered and uneducated and poorly informed about the goings on in the world, that they seriously do not have anything else to talk about.
Perhaps they deserve some pity. Not much, but some.
