  JWs take a page out of the Trinitarian playbook to support the generation of 1914

  back in the "good old days", i would look for people in my territory, especially ministers in order to debate the trinity with them.

  it was my pet subject that i had spent many hours over several years researching.

  i was such a good anti-trinity apologist that i was actually disappointed with the trinity brochure when it came out.

  If you understand the nature of god of being invisible and untouchable and who scholars believe jesus was in the old testament ( the word of the lord or the angel of the lord), it's really not hard explain.

  The new testament explains who jesus was in quite simple terms. The visible image of the invisible God or no one has seen the father only the son. Not really how they get a third member but the concept isn't as mysterious as some would like to believe.

  Now if God comes to earth as a human limited by his finite mortality is he really god? The arguments at that point just become idle circular philosophy that really goes nowhere. Watchtower reasoning.

  Have any ex-jws considered joining the Bible Students?

  their fundamental beliefs are much like jehovah's witnesses sans the paranoia, authoritarianism, stifling rules, and end-times enthusiasm.

  you don't even have to become a bible student to be saved, you could be an idol worshipping heathen and still get resurrected in the milenium.

  if i still believed in the divine inspiration of the scriptures, i would be a bible student.

  Something I didn't realize till years after the borg was the authors of the new testament didnt have the new testament. There bible was the old testament. Sounds stupid but I never really thought about it.

  There is a great author named Michael Heiser who really explains seeing the bible though first century Jewish eyes, what is being referenced from the old testament and explains who jesus was and why the first century church is so christ centered.

  Once you see the bible with a somewhat academic religious based Context, it really makes the obscure old testament stories and Revelations based theology of the wts utter nonsense.

  Were you aware of the shunning policy when becoming a JW

  for those who became jws, were you fully aware of the societys cruel shunning policy whilst studying?

  i absolutely had no idea such a policy existed until years later.

  it really only hit home when reading the horrendous stories on the internet around 2002. .

  Wasn't until 1981 you could simply resign as being one of jehovah witness.

  Most churches have some kind of process of dealing with active church members who break the rules but it is hardly ever enforced because if you want to spend your Saturday night doing blow and banging hookersv you won't be attending Sunday morning anyway.

  The watchtower blackmails people into attending then gets all high and mighty when there is a moral failing. It's such bullshit.

  Meeting Attendance levels

  i attended a sunday meeting today after missing a couple due to a bout of chronic apathy.

  out of 74 publishers we had a grand total of 33. wonderful.

  for those that attend, how are you finding the numbers?.

  I have found the larger the congregation, the easier it is to hide. In one I was involved with it claimed to have over 100 publishers with meeting attendance being around the 60 mark.

  Another one was in a small town with about 30 publishers with attendance around 24 each meeting.

  The Weezer album death to false metal is super funny. I would sure love to hear the story behind it. The funny part is I bet 98 percent of the public doesn't get it.

  How do you feel about the expression "The Truth"?

  it's amazing how the expression "the truth" has become such an ingrained term used by witnesses.. "we have 'the truth'".

  "is he 'in the truth'?".

  most here have found out so many facts about the organisation, and felt the effects of being "gut-punched" as we realised these facts.. so how do you feel about the expression "the truth" now?.

  Jehovah's Limp Witnesses Pointed Me to JW.org When I Was Willing to Talk

  several months ago i approached a nice young couple who were standing by a jw literature stand in my local community.

  they were pleasant and polite but incredibly stilted when it came to answering my "innocent" questions about their beliefs.

  this was the occasion of jws featuring the article headlined "is religion dying?".

  Something that always kind of bugged me was how little recognition the Wts received from the academic community. Every major university had a theology department in which you either study Christianity from a either religious or secular point of view.

  Once I started to do some of the research I started to realize the reason the Wts isn't even considered in the comparative religious discussion is pardon my language but a total and complete fucking joke. There isn't even a basic understanding of the relationship between the old and new testaments and what is being quoted.

  It Cant be defended because it's utter nonsense.
