i have met a wonderful man but unfortunately he is a jw.
i have never been interested or really ever been around any religion in my life so all of this right now is very fascinating to me.
i have been thinking of studying to become one but am also having a hard time finding anything on the net that is positive about it.
Perhaps the most important reason of all why you should stay away from the JW religion is for the sake of your (as yet unborn) children.
If you do enter into a relationship with this man and consummate the marriage, producing offspring, you put your children at risk of being stalked and molested by pedophiles, with no recourse to stop it because of the Watchtower's obtuse "two witnesses" rule.
For the sake of any children you may have in the future, please don't join.
seems to me that they don't have strong opinions about anything that isn't connected to their religion.
for example, how many are vegetarians or vegans?
or pro or anti capital punishment?
The strongest opinions I ever ran across in the JWs were about the reproved, the disfellowshipped, and "apostates".

Jim is there anything of a, ahem, sexual nature in the book? After all us (quoting E-man) randy 20 somethings enjoy that aspect too.
Stacy, if you're asking if any of the lead characters are gay, no. I may write the "great American gay novel" someday, but after I began the outline of the book, I felt that sexuality would be a distraction and detract from the overall message I am trying to convey in the book. I was severely chastised by a couple of gay friends who thought I was "betraying" the gay community by making the lead characters heterosexual. As an author, I have learned to expect criticism, and allow each to their own opinions. Since it is my book, it was my choice how I wanted to write it.
There are some rather intimate scenes in the book, however, that I believe will appeal to "randy 20-somethings".

we often discuss with them the reasons we left the borg, the things that that have really hurt us and the wrong teachings.

In my case, as a proselytized person, I believed I was a good person, and that is why I became a dub.
I felt as if I were being handed a sacred trust, to go door to door offering the opportunity to live forever to others.
It was not until after I became baptized that I was made to feel unworthy, dirty, and evil.

lets just say for aruguements sake, that as president, you alone could make all the changes.
you could change the blood issue, df'ing, all sorts of stuff.
If I were to become Watchtower president, the first thing I would do would be to hire outside consultants on cult deprogramming. Much as I would love to instantly dismantle the JW religion, it would leave countless thousands emotionally destitute. There are many in this world who are unable or unwilling to think for themselves, and religions such as the JWs are tailor-made for them. To suddenly demolish their entire religious support system would likely do far more emotional damage than the time they spent as JWs.
Rather, I would slowly introduce "new light", gradually transforming the Organization into one of love and tolerance, not demands and threats of annihilation and/or shunning. While this transformation was occurring, I would publicly apologize to all the victims of pedophilia, and order the Legal Department to work on financial reparations to each single victim. The same would go for those who lost loved ones for refusing blood.
Eventually, I would ban reproof and disfellowshipping, and issue written apologies to the reproved and disfellowshipped for their mistreatment. I would publicly retract the lies about 1914 and 1975, and come clean on issues such as Beth Sarim and the UN-NGO scandal.
Finally, I would devote an issue of the Watchtower to those brave "apostates" who blazed the trail of freedom from oppression by speaking out publicly and exposing the faults of the WTBTS.

We are taught that our purpose in life should be to climb up the corporate ladder as high as we can get. If we do not work 80 hours a week at a management job we despise, we are losers.
In my personal experience, nothing could be farther from the truth. I made my way up the corporate ladder, and managed to be a senior supervisor for the past several years. I was utterly miserable, especially when my superiors tried demanding I increase my workload to set a good example to those under me.
My reply: "This is my job, not my religion."
They didn't like that at all.
I have been unemployed for health reasons since April. I can't say that I miss the day-to-day stress. As some of you have seen in another post, I have a sci-fi novel about to hit the market shortly. I hope that my writing will be enough to sustain me. If not, I will be forced back into the work mill if for no other reason than to be provided with health insurance coverage, which I cannot afford out-of-pocket. With a strong management resume, I'm certain that I will run into the "overqualified" syndrome myself. Maybe I should lie and tell them I flipped burgers at McDonald's for the last 30 years......

Will it be for sale in Europe too ?
My publisher has assured me that Amazon.com will list the book, and I believe they ship worldwide. My publisher may or may not have sales staff to market it in Europe. I hope they do. I've already received some very strong interest in the book from Budapest, Hungary.
You mentioned that you were going to be doing a book signing at a PA bookstore. I'm in PA let me know which one, maybe it's close to where I live.

WOW SFJ: How long is it? Whoosh took Thunder a year for Thunder Riders Burden and since May on his second in the trilogy. I bow before you being able to write so quickly.
I consider this novel a "practice book" for me -- something to get my feet wet in the publishing world. I am currently working on a much longer novel about immortality. "Squares" is around 150 pages long (not sure how the publisher will format it). The book I'm currently writing will likely be around three times that size.
Yes, I do write fast, but only when I am in the mood. If I'm not inspired, I can stare at the screen for hours and come up with one or two paragraphs. If I get a shot of inspiration, I can write like a whirlwind. Writer's block is a terrible thing, and I am frequently plagued by it. Posting on this and other forums helps me hone my writing skills and lubricate the writer's block.
