Obviously most of this crap (if not all of it) is intended for JW consumption. Why else would you let someone like Lett do presentations? Does anyone know if the young JW's are even paying attention, perhaps from comments you have seen on other JW related forums? Who is really watching this stuff (except us)? -

The "preaching work" is just laughable!
by cookiemaster inthe "preaching work" they're so eager to brag about is just laughable.
they say their number is an indication of god's blessing.
oh, please, give me a break!

Today on the way home, at the train station I saw not 1, not 2 but 3 trolleys standing proudly next to one of the entrances. I guess they were expecting a big crowd. I slowly walked as close as possible by the carts as I could get, but not even one of the 3 cart guardians even attempted to engage me in eye contact let alone say hello. Maybe I have to beg for some literature? -

Wife just found out I won't be attending the Memorial this year!
by FadeToBlack inmy wife is staying with 'friends' out of town recovering from surgery on her foot.
i called to see how she was healing up and mentioned that i hope she gets back on her feet before i leave for the states to visit family (all non-witness) in april.
i begged her to postpone this surgery until i got back, but she did not forsee any problems.we will see.. anyway, it dawned on her that i won't be here to attend the memorial and she said: you are probably happy about that.

Honesty,
Of those three issues, the only one that has any chance of making any impact is the child abuse. But even with that, she will probably choose to play the 'wait on JHVH' card. I have already mentioned the Candace Conti case but did not press it. I was thinking about inviting her to watch the recent PBS piece but I may have undermined any remaining credibility I had by admitting I was happy not to be going to the memorial this year.

Anyway, it dawned on her that I won't be here to attend the memorial and she said: you are probably happy about that. I paused for a second and then responded that yes, I was happy about it. I then explained to her that I was so disgusted with last years jw-org infomercial excuse for a memorial that I wanted to walk out but didn't because I did not want to embarass her. She started to blather on about how close we are to 'the end' and we need stick together, but I cut her off and changed the subject to something else. Not a conversation to have over the phone.
I could hear the sadness in her voice, but what could I do? I refuse to be a door-mat for these people any longer. I will try to be polite while firm. If she wants to talk about it, we can. I think she still has some hope that eventually I will come to my senses but I need to make it clear to her that I already have and that is why I'm not going back.

by FadeToBlack ini think that since i am the sole wage-earner in our household, i need to make it clear to my wife that i don't want any of my hard-earned wages going to the wt.
i know she makes a monthly contribution to an animal shelter and i am fine with that.
what do you think?

Wise words Oubliette, but I'm starting to feel like I've already lost her. To be honest, it seems like we are just 2 people that happen to live under the same roof. I think the only thing we have in common at the moment is our love for our dogs. I think she is still willing to make a go of it (with the hope that I come back to 'the truth'). but I'm just feeling angry.
I know that I need to 'get it together' for the both of us, but I'm just not feeling the love. Her comments on the side, seem to imply that she also is feeling stuck in a place she'd rather not be. I guess we are going to have to have that grown-up conversation sooner or later.
Thanks (honestly)...

Good point Searcher. I will remind her that we need that XXX amount more than they do. I don't recall getting any subsidies from the WT when I was out of work (although, to be honest and fair, I did get some 'friends' that lent us some money to get by: but isn't that what normal people do?) -

@wannabefree: of course I don't discount her contribution to making it work. Her retirement is used for paying off our mortgage (less than 10K) , If she feels strongly about it after watching recent PBS child-abuse video we may have a problem. -

6 branches subsidize the rest of the branches.
by hoser ini went to the meeting this morning and we had some guy from overseas bethel give the public talk.
6 countries subsidize the rest.
he said in some countries all the donations that they get from contributions don't even pay the electricity bill for the branch buildings so money has to come in from these 6 richer countries.

Why is JHVH's spirit-directed organization so obsessed about money. Surely the great Jah could add a few more decimal points to the bottom line. Everybody else does it, why can't he? Perhaps he needs better management? -

Child Abuse must be getting out of hand if they're addressing it...
by thedepressedsoul ini'm referring to the video that was uploaded where they finally mentioned the child abuse issue.
we all kinda guessed that if they ever addressed it they'd blame it on the media and apostates.
well, looks like we were spot on.

This is probably the one and only issue that might give me some leverage with the wife. I fully intend on showing her this from jw.org (she is getting a tablet soon) and ask her this question: if it is not an issue, why are they talking about it?
