  Statements like this are less a message to those outside than indoctrination for those inside, a veneer to make dubs think they are actually tolerant of diversity. Very few people outside the organisation even know what JWs think less care about reading some statement online. The people who care about these things are inside and want to believe they are tolerant and the gap between their views and the rest of society is far less than it really is.

  The reality is that when push comes to shove if you are gay then you will never be accepted unless you (a) suppress your sexuality and (b) be a Witness. It's the same as any so called tolerant Islamist believer claiming that all people are equal. There is no fence to sit on. If pushed on the subject then they have to accept that Muslims are OK and infidels are exactly that.

  For Witnesses it is ultimately a black and white issue. Any veneer of tolerance peels away in seconds as soon as a person lives their life as they wish.

  world population growth rate is 1.13%, whilst jehovah's witness average publishers grew by 1.8%.

  watchtower growth is outpacing population growth, though at a dismal rate considering the 2 billion hours of preaching required for an increase of just 115,194. this is an aggregate number, and most growth is from developing nations in africa and south america.

  what i was really interested in finding is how watchtower growth compares to the population growth in different countries.

  @kpop,

  We had the discussion re percentages on another thread. For some examples then using the raw figures is telling but in trying to track data over many years and identify trends then using ratios and percentages really is the only way of showing the real story of the numbers.

  Having said that, specific example you use and the inference re Jehovah's so called patience is an excellent one and one of my favourite examples of the nonsense I used to believe.

  They do know why but are just making the point that it's absolutely bizarre that two people, both legally divorced can get DF'ed because one of them was not scripturally divorced therefore when they got together the elders considered it an adulterous relationship.

  Money goes from the UK to Germany. Expect more to do so now Seltzers does the printing. Large sums of money were also going to the US but I don't know if that has changed.

  I find it hard to believe that 130k people donate £60m - that's almost £500pa per person and we all know that we are probably being generous if we suggested that 65k donate the best part of £1000pa each.

  The figures for income and expenditure on KH construction is also interesting - approx £8m going each way - no doubt some circular charity A-B-A thing as per Lostandfound's comment.

  I also note that investment management costs are approx twice as much as income. That does not sound very sensible but perhaps there is an accounting reason for this.

  How do you categorise the Society - Cult or High control religion

  As many have said, they are both. It's just a case of where on the line between two extremities they sit. They are not the most extreme but in some ways that is worse than if they were an all out stereotypical cult. At the moment they can present a veneer of acceptability, point to having millions of members, not being obviously segregated or separated from mainstream living. Don't let that fool you - it's high control cultism.

  Cutbacks

  what other cut backs do you think will be coming or might be coming these next few years for the borg ?.

  They are already cutting back the living conditions for Bethelites in third world countries. I was talking to a brother I know in the WDC and he was saying about the fact that Bethels have always had good first world living standards. They were finding that many were coming to Bethel as a route to escape poverty at home.

  As part of the cutbacks they are limiting the standards of living for accommodation to that which would be considered good by local standards. This would reduce things like AC, number of rooms, people in rooms, quality of building etc. This reduces costs during design and build as well as in-life.

  Of course, there are many existing buildings which already have a good standard of fit-out but remember that they are reducing branch facilities and concentrating on Remote Translation Offices. These projects involve far smaller buildings and since they are only used by locals can have more basic fit-outs than facilities where visiting dignities from HQ need to be accommodated.
