The point is there are at least 1 billion people, maybe double or treble, unlikely to be met in the ministry. Are they my neighbour?

What about people that are highly unlikely to be met in the ministry like those caught in the war in Syria? Is it neighbourly to support charities that are sending doctors and nurses to help them for example? -

So what about our tear ducts?
If you argue that they were created in case of anything getting in the eyes etc. then where did the link to emotion come? That would have been created in Adam and he would have been capable of crying through sadness. Why?

Honeymoon over for the carts
by Deltawave inspeaking with inlaws i another congregation today who said exactly what is being said in our own hall.
the trolly work is long and boring and no one even notices they are there anymore but walk right on by.
jehovah really is speeding up the work lol.

I think they are following a strategy of introducing change to try and keep people motivated. The carts, reduced pioneer hours, special campaigns and now the changes to reporting to make pretty much anything count simply paper over the cracks but are enough of a veneer to keep people chugging along, especially in areas where growth is negligible.
For areas where there is still greater growth then all the above methods are fine as well but if people are more open to a Bible study and less willing or capable of questioning what they are learning then the added benefit is that the publishers feel motivated simply because people seem interested.

Another Galling Meeting!
by Nicholaus Kopernicus inyesterday's meeting was again, quite soporific.
however, i felt indignation when it came to paragraph 16 of the watchtower catechism.
it reads..."the remarkable growth that we see today is the result of our faith in god and full acceptance of the bible..."i won't deal with the first part of that sentence here, but the claim at the end - this is just an outright and most egregious lie!

I was tempted to put my hand up yesterday after one of the elders was crowing about 5300 being baptised each day and point out that 4600 are leaving as well with a net gain of just 18000 people last service year.
Growth indeed!

What is the alternative to JW?
by Formerbrother ini mean this with all due respect, i would like to hear from genuine people who think jw have it wrong and then what is the truth?.

What Bible truth(s) do you wish a religion to be closer to?
If you want a religion to follow the practices of the ancient Israelites then take a look as ISIS. They are happy with stonings, beheading, genocide, a patriarchal society, intolerance and so on.
If you prefer the seeming ideals of Jesus then tolerance and inclusion seem to best expressed by those with less religious affiliation or commitment to doctrine.

Gems From the WT
by Slidin Fast injust noticed this gem of a definition in the current (no 1) wt.
"lying.
saying something false to someone who is entitled to know the truth.".
-

With the JW definition of lying then the next question is "who determines who is entitled to know the truth?". Of course, as per Terry's post, this is the prerogative of the individual. It is of course worse than that since it will ALWAYS be the organisation in the driving seat. So, when it suits the organisation to lie then they will and when they are investigating the actions of their adherents (e.g. in a JC) then they will state that the elders are entitled to know the truth therefore denying the individual the right to the same choices the organisation can make.

Mind Games and Con Artists
by konceptual99 ini made a post on another thread but think it deserves a space of it's own.
the latest new scientist magazine has a great article on how and why people get taken in by con artists.. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2073748-mind-games-how-con-artists-get-the-better-of-you/.
there is a great section on the use of emotive stories to gain mental traction.

This is exactly the point.
It is an exercise in futility to try and blind the R&F with pseudo intellectual "scholarly" works any more and they know it. So much can be debunked. They are hanging onto 607 and 1914 by the fingertips at the moment but being hit not only by the amount of evidence for their dates being 20 years out but also the fact that bugger all has happened in 100 years.
The amount of info debunking large amount of WT doctrine (especially JWFacts) allows anyone who can their mind past the cultural firewall of anti-apostate rhetoric to fully examine the history of why JWs preach what they preach now and see it's a procession of failed prophesy.
The only way now is through emotion and making the R&F care less and less about doing any research at all. The more top down the meetings become, with spoon fed presentations and streamed talks from Command Central the less and less chance there is of R&F members even caring about doing any research.
