Do they notice who no longer gives donations?
by onightdivine inbecause i haven't put in a single dime for over a year now in the box at the kh.
the usual custom is to put money in there right after the meetings.
but heck, i already spend so much in car fuel just to attend - i don't care really if the gb starves and dies.. oops.. anyway, do the elders take note who's donating and who's not?.

There are two ways of knowing who contributes what here in the UK. One is through payments by cheque or electronic transfer into the bank. The second is through the gift aid arrangement. This is where the congregation can claim back the taxable element of the donation if the donor is a UK tax payer. Donations under GA have to be identified back to the person who made them.
I have done the job of accounts servant and I knew exactly how much was being donated and by whom when it came to about 60% of the donations. This was some time ago and now, with the prevalence of electronic transfer I would expect this figure to be higher.
A while back, appointed men where encouraged to have a GA donation arrangement. I refused as I thought it was a point of principle that donations should be unsolicited and anonymous.
To be honest though, I have never donated much. It was only ever on sporadic occasions and I have not given the org a penny since 2012 when I started waking up.

Welcome. There are lots of people here in all states of disentanglement from the WTS. You will find support, empathy and encouragement here. Sometimes we disagree with one another but the good thing is it is allowed and we've learnt that instead of having to hate someone just because of one point of disagreement we can find lots of common ground and be a positive and productive community.
Welcome again!

Operation "Change meeting infrra-weekly" is a smokescreen
by LaFrancia inthe operation "change midweek meeting" probably was a move to divert attention of the brotherhood from layoffs to betel and the ranks of special pioneers, a smokescreen for the pedophilia scandal !
!operation "change meeting infrra-weekly" is a smokescreen.
what do you think ?.

The meeting "change" has been a long time in the planning, that's clear from the amount of material already produced.
I have also ready stated on here a couple of times that announcing the Bethel cuts as close as possible to the AGM and the meeting change does allow for the distraction of the latter to dilute discussion of the Bethel cuts. Don't forget as well that if you are not close to people in Bethel or have your ear to the JW gossip network then you may not have any inkling of the cuts and slowdown in construction.
The critical question is how long the cuts have been planned. Is it a knee jerk reaction to some sudden realisation about finances or has it been a plan B for some time? My gut says the former since I think they could have slowed some construction down far sooner if they knew they were likely going to cut the workforce.
Either way, I don't think the timing of the announcement about cuts was coincidental. I think it was made as close to the AGM and it's announcements as possible but not so close (i.e. 2/3 days before) so that it was all that was being talked about.
The current saying of the moment is about how fecking fast the chariot is moving and how we all need to be running around like demented chickens trying to keep on board. The GB have created this sense of momentum and the R&F have caught onto it. The only problem with this is having to keep introducing change to keep the sense of momentum up. It is already getting to the point of change simply for change sake.

Why Jehovah Does Not Want An Effective Preaching Work
by konceptual99 inso we all know how ineffectual the preaching work really is.
we also know how much the wts hypes up the scope and scale of the global preaching effort.
what the gb should be doing however is emphasising the ineffectiveness of the preaching work.

Sorry to bump my own thread - I know it's a bit of a narcissistic thing to do but I just wanted to remind anyone who will be attending the WT study this week that this is the article under discussion and it may be a useful paragraph to do some reverse witnessing if you can word a comment in such a way so as not to be too obviously critical.
I will get my thinking cap on...

Child Discipline, new article to address Jackson's Royal Commission testimony
by jwfacts ini have published a new article at watchtower corporal punishment, as a response to the testimony that geoff jackson gave at the royal commission.
it includes the relevant part of the transcript, along with a string of watchtower quotes to show that what he presented was not accurate, and that watchtower translates rod as a literal implement to hit children with.

Great article. Once again the misrepresentation of published WT material by the representatives of the organisation has been clearly exposed without hype or sensationalism. I really hope the RC get to see this. -

TV.JW.ORG - October 2015: Neighborly love is more than just Field Service
by Designer Stubble inthe october 2015 jw broadcast, hosted by gerrit losch is quite positive actually.a lot of focus on "field service" needs to be balanced with other good works - supporting those in need around you - either in the congregation (witnesses) or in your classroom or neighbors (non-witnesses).
visiting and encouraging the sick and elderly is mentioned.
jesus parable of the merciful samaritan is highlighted.

The unprecedented refugee crisis in Europe offers Losch and his teletubby buddies a splendid opportunity to put their collective money where their mouths are.
There are already stories floating around of dubs preaching to those on the move. Just wait for the sentimental video on JWB about how the refugees' spiritual needs are being met by hoards of cart caretakers.

Finished Mystery (1917)... The book that Jesus approved...
by Alfred inso a few months ago, a friend sent me an actual copy of finished mystery which was published in 1917 (not a pdf download... the actual book).
i must say, this was the most disturbing book i have ever had the displeasure of reading.
but i only read it because this was the main publication that was being distributed worldwide when jesus supposedly chose the watchtower in 1918 and i basically wanted to see for myself what jesus saw in the wt that would compel him to choose this religious corporation over all other religious denominations.. anyway, if anyone is interested in knowing the actual contents of this book, here are some bullet points i put together from some of the notes i took as i read the book:.

Not seen this before. What a great thread and thanks to the OP for the original research. The great shame is that most JWs couldn't care less about this - it's soooo long ago and all that matters is the current light. -

Effect on youths of Bethel and construction cuts
by Tornintwo ini know quite a few youths (late teens to early twenties) who have the goal of full time service, as bethelites or international construction, so they're doing the required slog of pioneering in order to achieve this goal.
this is a goal which has been excitedly set out for them the last few years or so at assemblies etc.
now they see the cuts, surely they are going to be discouraged and disillusioned.

And, to be fair, he may get some training in something useful for his CV.
