Child Discipline, new article to address Jackson's Royal Commission testimony
by jwfacts ini have published a new article at watchtower corporal punishment, as a response to the testimony that geoff jackson gave at the royal commission.
it includes the relevant part of the transcript, along with a string of watchtower quotes to show that what he presented was not accurate, and that watchtower translates rod as a literal implement to hit children with.

Great article. Once again the misrepresentation of published WT material by the representatives of the organisation has been clearly exposed without hype or sensationalism. I really hope the RC get to see this. -

TV.JW.ORG - October 2015: Neighborly love is more than just Field Service
by Designer Stubble inthe october 2015 jw broadcast, hosted by gerrit losch is quite positive actually.a lot of focus on "field service" needs to be balanced with other good works - supporting those in need around you - either in the congregation (witnesses) or in your classroom or neighbors (non-witnesses).
visiting and encouraging the sick and elderly is mentioned.
jesus parable of the merciful samaritan is highlighted.

The unprecedented refugee crisis in Europe offers Losch and his teletubby buddies a splendid opportunity to put their collective money where their mouths are.
There are already stories floating around of dubs preaching to those on the move. Just wait for the sentimental video on JWB about how the refugees' spiritual needs are being met by hoards of cart caretakers.

Finished Mystery (1917)... The book that Jesus approved...
by Alfred inso a few months ago, a friend sent me an actual copy of finished mystery which was published in 1917 (not a pdf download... the actual book).
i must say, this was the most disturbing book i have ever had the displeasure of reading.
but i only read it because this was the main publication that was being distributed worldwide when jesus supposedly chose the watchtower in 1918 and i basically wanted to see for myself what jesus saw in the wt that would compel him to choose this religious corporation over all other religious denominations.. anyway, if anyone is interested in knowing the actual contents of this book, here are some bullet points i put together from some of the notes i took as i read the book:.

Not seen this before. What a great thread and thanks to the OP for the original research. The great shame is that most JWs couldn't care less about this - it's soooo long ago and all that matters is the current light. -

Effect on youths of Bethel and construction cuts
by Tornintwo ini know quite a few youths (late teens to early twenties) who have the goal of full time service, as bethelites or international construction, so they're doing the required slog of pioneering in order to achieve this goal.
this is a goal which has been excitedly set out for them the last few years or so at assemblies etc.
now they see the cuts, surely they are going to be discouraged and disillusioned.

And, to be fair, he may get some training in something useful for his CV. -

Agree with the above three posts. They must see this as a real risk and doing what they can to create some evidence they are not just a publishing/property company. -

Just skimmed the new October broadcast

Check out Losch talking about good works and sacred service. He rabbits on about disaster relief. The he talks about construction, which is irony enough, but then at 13:00 he talks about Bethel service. Not only that, the image behind him is of a brother doing laundry - one of the jobs that is apparently going to be most affected by the global downsize.
You couldn't make it up.

First thoughts on "new" meeting...
by konceptual99 inhad a quick look at the workbook and flicked through the sample meeting video.. the increased use of video shows the trend for more centralised dissemination of "best practice" .
sure there isn't really a "school" any more and the format is a bit different but i think those that called it as the same old crap just in new package got it pretty much right.

The counsel slip is still there. The BE book is still used. People will get assignments. It's the same as the TMS. It's not gone away, it's just been down to Pimp my Ride. -

This gets worse. Below are the instructions for part of the meeting. The school is still there just focused on parroting presentations.
Still talks for brothers and sisters. From the instructions (S-38):
Bible Reading: 4 minutes or less. This part will be assigned to a brother. The student should read the assigned material without giving an introduction or a conclusion. The meeting chairman will be especially interested in helping students to read with accuracy, understanding, fluency, proper sense stress, modulation, appropriate pausing, and naturalness.
4. Apply Yourself to the Field Ministry: During the first week of every month, the Prepare This Month’s Presentations part will be presented in place of the three student assignments. At times, the Life and Ministry Meeting Workbook may provide specific settings and instructions for the student presentations, such as telephone witnessing or public witnessing.
Prepare This Month’s Presentations: 15 minutes. Videos of model presentations will be shown and discussed to prepare the congregation to offer the magazines or the featured publication. This part will be assigned to an elder or a qualified ministerial servant.
Initial Call: 2 minutes or less. This student presentation may be assigned to a brother or a sister. When assigned to a brother, the assistant should be a member of his family or a brother in the congregation. The student should choose a greeting appropriate for the area.
Return Visit: 4 minutes or less. This student presentation may be assigned to a brother or a sister. When assigned to a brother, the assistant should be a member of his family or a brother in the congregation. The student and assistant may be seated at a table or be standing.
Bible Study: 6 minutes or less. This student presentation may be assigned to a brother or a sister. When assigned to a brother, the assistant should be a member of his family or a brother in the congregation. The student and assistant may be seated or standing. From time to time, elders may receive this assignment. -

On a need to know basis - The Letter
by no-zombie inwe've just had our sunday meeting and the letter was read out to the congregation.. however, there was no mention of the bethel lay-offs or the building program shut-downs.. looks like we are on a need to know basis, here in australia..

As mentioned there are several streams of info that have been discussed over the last week or two. Layoffs have not been the subject of a general letter to the congregations.
However, my understanding from comments on a pro JW site is that there was some mention made of it at the AGM. I suggest waiting for the video to appear on JW TV and then we shall see how they spun it.

Jehovah's Chariot slams into reverse!
by apocalypse inthe question i will be asking dubs at the hall this week is, "since jesus is directing the slave.... why has he done a 180..?".
last sunday we studied how jesus is directing the slave to build an average of 5 kingdom halls a day since 2000. why has he changed his mind and gone in the completely opposite direction?.
if this 'change' is not securely lodged in their craw by the time i am through, then i will eat my hat..

Hahaha @cantleave!
I've seen this car at Mithril Racing at Goodwood. Always fancied a go but single seaters and Ferraris are even more enticing!
