just wondering if there was the usual hyped up leaflet distribution campaign this year or not?.
as the convention seems more focussed on an "internal" message to keep witnesses loyal, did they want the public there?.
and what would first time attenders really think if they heard the convention content?

bad timing for the bunker video with all the police drama going on.. https://www.the-newshub.com/general/jehovahs-witnesses-promote-police-hatred-at-summer-conventions.
recently one member after viewing the video material was triggered into climbing a bridge in australia and screaming about the ‘great tribulation” coming at any minute.
see picture above..
Do we even know if the guy in Oz was a Witness? Don't forget as we'll that it's winter there and they don't have the convention for months. Regardless, one guy with clear mental health issues does not constitute a global move by Witnesses to resist the police.
looks like chelmsford is going ahead after all.
here is the text of a letter to be read out this week:.
to all congregations in britain and irelandre: branch relocation project updatedear brothers:we rejoice to inform you that in june of this year, the governing body gave approval for thebritain branch to relocate to new facilities that will be constructed just south of chelmsford.
2020...? Bbbbbbbuuuutttt I thought jehober blessed things so the unacheivable can be achieved. 4 years is a hell of a timescale for this.
so i hooked into meeting via phone this week to listen in and was shocked at the absurdities mentioned in the study article (2016 may watchtower: "go,..and make disciples of people of all the nations").
the answer is obvious—only jehovah’s witnesses.
the answer the missionary priest gave in no way proves that jws are the only ones "preaching the good news".
When I was begining to wake up to ttatt it was difficult to ignore the idea that the jw's were carrying out the world wide preaching work.
Except they are not. Vast areas and populations of the earth have no meaningful representation. Virtually the whole of North Africa and the Middle East is blind to Jehovah's Witnesses. The ratio of publishers to population in places like China and the Indian sub-continent is so great as to be as effective as a chocolate teapot. Even in countries with well established Witness presence the actual effectiveness of the ministry has to be questioned given the low conversion rates and appalling understanding of even basic Witness teachings amongst the general population.
The ministry is a colossal waste of time. 1.9 billion hours (supposedly) spent in the ministry last year. That's 1.9 BILLION hours. Sounds amazing, except only 260k people were baptised. That's over 7400 hours or 2.5 years of 8 hour day preaching to bring one person into "da troof".
Not only that, the 260k baptisms offset a drop of 242k elsewhere as the net increase over the year was only 18,000 people.
The whole thing is the biggest waste of time ever and if Jehovah is blessing this work then I would hate to see it without his attention.

would a jehovah's witness ask you, the householder, "does christ dwell in this home?".
i have recently viewed the lady in the van, which was filmed principally in north london.
i am currently reviewing a transcript of alan bennett's play of the same title, looking for the exact quotation (the above may not be verbatim).. also, in the movie's subtitles, the word "curb" is spelled "kerb" in the original transcript.
It was also the source of much merriment when we had the American accents in the dramas. Does anyone recall the "Hi, I'm Randy" greeting from one years ago...?
i was watching serena win yet another wimbledon title recently (congrats to her) but it got me to thinking about her for a moment.
she identifies herself as a jw and if you look up any info on her it will tell you that her religion is jw so that means that she herself and the rest of the world identifies her as a jw.. for those of us who are df'd as well as those of you who are about to be df'd what is the reason?
and what is the main difference between a df and a fade away?
If you are an unbaptized publisher and go in service every week are you allowed to do whatever you please as long as you don't get baptized? Can you run for political office and still comment at the meetings and still go out in service? Wouldn't the society distance themselves from you if you are doing things contrary to their beliefs. Identifying yourself as a JW makes you in all intents and purposes a JW.
In a normal situation you would no longer qualify as an unbaptised publisher.
For Serena Williams I would question what access the society has to her. Prince attended meetings, assemblies and had personal contact with an elder - Larry Graham. He was seemingly on the books of the local congregation.
I don't know about SW but I sincerely doubt that she is on the books of any congregation as an active Witness (unbaptised or not). Even if some old congregation somewhere has her records from her youth I doubt that she has regular contact with Witnesses "in good standing", especially elders. I'd be amazed if she puts a report in.
If she wants to identify as a Witness then that's up to her. What influence she allows the organisation to have on her is also up to her. There is very little the organisation can do about it.
after some considerable thought i have decided that i will no longer post on this forum because i want to return to jehovah.
thank you for all the kindness and many interesting discussions over the years.
i wish you all well in the future and the decisions you make.
TTFN SBF. I hope one you returns soon otherwise there will be no one to turn everything Cofty says into a debate on relativism. I will miss all of you!

There is no rule change. The process around DA is clearly documented in the Organised book. It is an action taken by a baptised person. It's not initiated by the congregation. The list of "DA by actions" is clear and specific.
I await JWDaughter's feedback on her specific circumstances but I suspect this is likely unilateral shunning by ones in the congregation in response to actions on the part of an individual.
I know of cases where people take it upon themselves to brand someone as having DA'ed themselves by their actions (e.g. fading and then doing something "sinful") but that's the individual justifying their own self-righteousness with a mis-interpretation of procedure.
I have no doubt there are cases of the mis-application of the process by Bodies of Elders as well but, again, this will be ones operating outside of the instructions.
At the end of day it's all academic of course. If ones want to shun you for whatever silly reason they like then they will.

So what would you have the WT do? Serena Williams is off the scale as far as a typical Witness goes. She can say what she likes and the WT can't do a thing about it. I'd be amazed if she's even associated with a congregation. When was the last time she attended a meeting? Can you even imagine the elders trying to speak with her, arrange a shepherding call, ask for her report?
I'm no WT apologist but trying to use Serena Williams' hypocrisy as a stick to beat them with seems silly. I've never met a Witness who takes her seriously as a JW. Most just say Jehoober knows her heart and it's up to him.

JWDaughter - please can you elaborate?
In general terms you can't be disassociated - it's a step taken by an individual to formally revoke their membership of their local congregation and the organisation in general. There are some things that they count as disassociated by one's actions such as joining a church or the military and wilfully taking blood but these are simply to avoid legal issues with freedom of religion, treason and to be able to make technically truthful statements about ones not being disfellowshipped for certain actions.
Either way they all apply only to baptised individuals. Can you explain further as to how it applies in your case as this would be very unusual?
