Evolution is a Fact #34 - Hiccups and Tadpoles
by cofty inhiccups are a weird phenomena.
they are a combination of two involuntary actions - firstly a rapid inhalation of breath followed 35 milliseconds later by the glottis at the back of the throat suddenly closing off our airway.. our normal breathing is controlled by a "central pattern generator" in a small region of the brain stem close to the boundary with the spinal cord.
a signal is sent along the vagus and phrenic nerves resulting in a rhythmic contraction of muscles in chest, diaphragm and throat.. these nerves branch off right at the top of the spinal cord and follow a convoluted path through the chest cavity.

Just gone through this at the dinner table as my daughter gets hiccups. I didn't mention the source of course but left them contemplating the implication of why we would mimic actions of an animal with both gills and lungs..... -

KH construction
by truth doubter inis it a fact that all kh construction earth wide has stopped?
-

No one is saying KH construction has been stopped. We have recently seen the completion of the Chemsfold KH for example. However, as someone still nominally on the re-badged RBC/LDC I know there is very little more really going on. RBC groups had regular full build projects every 2-3 months. There have been virtually none in the whole of the UK for well over a year now.
There is lots of talk about how many more projects there are required. Firstly this includes maintenance tasks that fall under the LDC now. Secondly, when you actually talk to people, no one actually sees anything happening. Things are always supposedly happening elsewhere.
I can't speak for third world areas and accept there could be more going on there than we assume might be happening but the talk at the hall, assemblies and conventions is not about the third world, it's constantly bigging up the local LDC workload yet there is nothing of real substance actually happening.
Also, I believe there was a thread on here debunking the implied timelines on third world hall projects presented in a recent JW broadcast.

Very interesting. There are regular references in the meetings to the large building needs but very little evidence of any thing actually happening on the ground. The story is the same in the UK and I suspect everywhere else.

I went to see my Dr about the blood card issue
by purrpurr ini booked a double appointment so that she wouldn't be rushed.
i explained that i'd been brought up in the jw's and woken up to what a load of shite it was.
i explained that they have changed the blood card and that the elders in the cong are being told to effectively force people into signing it.

I am in the shoes of being perceived as essentially in "good standing" despite poor meeting attendance, no field service and school participation. I am not worried by this at all. I will be amazed if they really chase this up and make sure they have fully completed forms for all congregation members.
Even if they do chase it, they have no power to compel any individual. Just deflect the request and move on. They will only bother once or twice.

From the other thread....
Don't panic Captain Mainwaring. The Elders and HLC only have the power over you that you give them. Don't sign it. Don't talk to the elders about it. If they chase you at all it will be once or twice. Just tell them you'll sort it out. They will forget about it. Without this document the HLC can do bugger all.
It's not a bad idea to make your wishes clear in a document and conversation with your doctor but most elders don't have the time or inclination to keep track of who and who has not logged a blood card with them. Not only that but the fact the document is limited to so called primary components means loads of questions from old sisters about what they can and can't have. The elders will be glad of not being hassled by you
Remember as well this is only a document for the UK. Wording and mileage may differ elsewhere. -

What do Muslims Really Think - UK Documentary
by cofty inchannel 4 have commissioned a study into attitudes among british muslims.. the documentary starts in an hour from now at 10pm.
if you watch it live or on 4od please share your thoughts.. unlike many other surveys of muslim opinion, which have predominantly been done by phone or online, icm used face-to-face, in-home research to question a representative sample of 1,000 muslims across great britain.
icm also used a “control sample” to compare what british muslims thought with the rest of the british population.. at the top-line level, the survey suggests that a mainstream british muslim majority have similar values and attitudes to the wider british public on issues such as support for british institutions and a feeling of belonging to britain.. but looking deeper into the results, a chasm develops between those muslims surveyed and the wider population on attitudes to liberal values on issues such as gender equality, homosexuality and issues relating to freedom of expression.

Divisions among ex jw activists
by Truthexplorer ini just watched a youtube discussion between marc & cora and unwitness.
it was regarding their unhappiness over a few prominent individuals in the ex jw community, one individual in particular.
this individual who on the one hand produces excellent videos highlighting wt issues, yet has been known to peeve a lot of ex jw activists off.

As far as I can see the problems really arose when the concept of a structured organisation arose (AAWA). The idea was good but trying to organise a disparate set of individuals into something with structure and hierarchy has allowed agendas to be set, alliances to be formed. conflict to appear and egos to be bruised.
As a non-activist, I respect pretty much all the people who spend time, money and mental energy producing information, videos, content and so on. Different things appeal to different people or is relevant at different times in someone's awakening. Rather than sniping at each other just live and and let live. Anything else is counter productive and smacks of childishness.

Yes they are that brainwashed.
If you live in an area that is not the same congregation as where he currently lives then it is possible for him to simply move, stop coming and fall off the radar.
If he adopts a lifestyle that is contrary to Witness standards then his sister may dob him in to the local elders but that really depends on what sort of people she and her husband are. Some people are so entrenched they will escalate the situation but others know how to play the game and know that if they want to keep the status quo then they keep their traps shut.
If he moves and his family keep quiet about whatever he chooses to do then he can successfully fade.
