  1975 - A weak argument?

  i posted this on an older thread, but i wanted to get an honest opinion about this from all of you.

  i think taking the 1975 approach with a jw is...weak.

  was it wrong (and false prophetic) of them?

  1975 for deniers.

  most of today's jws were not members in 1975 or in the 9 years prior to 1975, so they were not eyewitnesses to what really went on during that period.

  i was a pioneer in that period, and i was an eyewitness to what went on.. those jws who are still active today and who were around in that period will typically say it was the "brothers" who "ran ahead of jehovah" and "read more into" the 1975 prediction than what was actually stated.

God’s will is that “all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth.” (1 Tim. 2:3, 4) The ingathering of recent months is an indication that there is work yet to be done.

  In other words "ok so Armageddon didn't come. Quit whining and get out on the ministry"

  How the Governing Body Solved Another Problem

  that interpretation had caused a problem that the governing body was never able to satisfactorily explain.

  they needed to be able to show that there has always been a functioning faithful and discreet slave in one form or another ever since.

  but they were never able to provide any evidence for the existence of an ongoing 1900 year-old slave prior to the appearance of the watchtower society.

  i am pleased to announce that candace conti, and her key lawyers rick simons and kelly kraetsch are planning a youtube video to answer any questions that people in our community may have regarding the recent conti v watchtower lawsuit.

  i have offered to coordinate the gathering of these questions, and i thought it might be fun to do it in a "competition" style jwn thread, with the best answers being chosen by kelly, rick and candace to be addressed in the video.. as you can imagine, there are some provisos to this.... this is an active lawsuit, so for obvious legal reasons kelly, rick and candace will have the absolute and final decision as to which questions are answered and how much information is divulged when they are answered.we need the answers in the next 7 days, so the "cut off" for this competition is exactly 7 days from the time this thread goes live on jwn.we kindly request that all questions are asked in a respectful manner without any malicious or offensive intent.

  who would he talk to?

  what sorts of miracles would he perform?

  Contributions For Local KH VS. World Wide Work

  seriously, if i am going to stay a jw for now, is there anything wrong with donating all for local kindom hall purposes, and simply not donate to the world wide work (wt)?

  i mean, won't the local money just go to the kingdom hall expenses (among some other expenses)?

  i'm telling you right now, the wt ain't getting my $ until things change!.

  The cong can also take a 'hands-up' resolution to donate from KHall finances to anything they choose: WWW, Circuit car fund, KHall Assistance, Assembly Hall donations etc.

  And we all know how often those resolutions get rejected

  Add this to Blondies comment about sending excess savings to the Soc to have them invest it for themselves, well, you choose.

  Besides, weren't all the KHall deeds transferred over to the Soc recently?

The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Buffalo, New York, now accepts credit cards, not just cash donations. One finance committee member says: “A church can’t survive on 50-cent [cash] donations.” Credit-card donations are up to $30. Admission is now being charged visitors to London’s thirteenth-century Salisbury Cathedral. A London Observer article calls this “a last-ditch attempt to find a way of meeting the desperate need for funds.”

  “A growing number of Canadian churches” are adopting “modern banking practices, introducing bank cards and credit cards as convenient ways for parishioners to make collection-plate donations,” says the VancouverSun newspaper. Debit machines have been placed in church halls along with “donation envelopes with options for automatic account withdrawal and credit card payment.” Individuals simply swipe their card, key in the amount they wish to donate, and then put a copy of the receipt in the collection plate. As one pastor stated: “A cashless society is where society is going. Why not the church?” A church treasurer joked: “You get air-miles on your card, plus you go to heaven for donations. Just think of it as double reward points.”

  a $3 billion class action lawsuit is being launched in australia on behalf of up to 6,160 children within the church of jehovahs witnesses.

  documents relating to the class action reveal over 14,000 serious criminal breaches of mandatory child protection laws, committed against these children by elders and ministers of religion within the church of jehovahs witnesses over the past 4 years.. the victorian government inquiry into the handling of child abuse by religions and other organisations is currently investigating the allegations, and is expected to hold a public hearing in relation to this in early 2013.. http://jwnewsnetwork.wordpress.com/2012/12/01/3-billion-jehovahs-witnesses-class-action-over-child-abuse/.

  can anyone verify this statement other then from the above link? "......undergone a major re-structuring of ‘doctrinal teachings’ and asset ownership, the net result being that the church now claims it no longer has billions of dollars in assets or ‘belongings’ but is, from a legal position, an unincorporated association with no assets whatsoever."

  I guess this is a reference to the statement from the Annual Meeting:

  "Jesus’ appointment of the “slave” over his “belongings,” then, must also be a future event. He will make that appointment during the great tribulation."

  october 6, 2012. during their annual meeting the governing body announced some changes in their interpretation of (1) the most important scripture in watch-tower theology, and (2) the most important event in watchtower history.

  are their changes new light according to proverbs, or refinement according to daniel and malachi?

  To try to make the new light clearer:

  Old Understanding:

  Jesus goes away on a journey in 33CE and appointed an anointed class of F&DS to feed the domestics. These have existed all through time since then, until Jesus came back in 1914. In 1919 he judged and pronounced the F&DS happy and appointed them over all his earthly belongings.

  33CE Jesus appoints a F&DS Class (new nation "Israel of God") to feed his domestics (other anointed)

  33CE GB formed

  33CE Jesus leaves on a journey and instructs to start the preaching (Talents- Mt 25:14-15)

  1914 Jesus returns (master arrives). Parousia (presence) begins.

  1918-19 Temple inspection and cleansing / refining (Mal 3:1-2)

  1919 Jesus judges (Bridegroom arrives Mt25:5) and appoints the existing F&DS over all his belongings

  1919 Greater Cyrus declares the anointed righteous and releases them from Babylonian captivity

  1919 Two witnesses revived from revelation (Rev 11 - linked to appointment over Christ's belongings)

  1919 Jesus determines that Christendom are the Evil Slave

  1919 Jesus places “the key of the house of David” upon the shoulder of FDS (Isa. 22:22)

  1919 'Spiritual paradise' is established. (Isaiah 66:8)

  19xx Resurrection of anointed begins and they assist in transmitting truths

  Gt Trib - Jesus comes like a thief in the night

  Gt Trib - Judge the nations and bring Armageddon (Mt 24:43)

  New Understanding:

  "The Faithful and Discreet Slave is a small group of anointed brothersduring Jesus’ presence serving at Watchtower Headquarters who are directly involved in the preparing and dispensing of spiritual food. The individual members of the Governing Body are not the Faithful and Discreet Slave. They only act as the Faithful and Discreet Slave when they are working as a collective body in making decisions regarding the dispensing of spiritual food."

  33CE New nation of anointed ("Israel of God" but not FDS) born.

  33CE GB formed (?) but no FDS* over his household.

  33CE Jesus leaves on a journey and instructs to start the preaching (Talents)

  * This is actually the GB but cannot be called that explicitly because the GB was not formed until 1971, so didn't even exist in 1919. Therefore careful wording is used instead: " a group of anointed brothers serving at Watchtower headquarters ".
