Is this where the idea of hell came from?
by Inisc inarticle on mail online about a greek cave found in the 1950s (sorry i don't know how to link it).
experts believe may have started the hades myth.. found it very interesting to think this may have been behind the ideas of superstitious men writing about things in their environment they simply just didn't understand.
if any of the more tech savvy posters could link it?.

"Jesus did not die on the cross" (Gunnar Samuelsson)
by Titus in"jesus did not die on the cross" .
a new doctoral dissertation in theology from gothenburg university claims that the bible has been misinterpreted when it comes to how jesus died.
gunnar samuelsson who wrote the dissertation has studied the original texts and sees no explicit references to crucifiction.

I've often thought that "the sign of the son of man" that is due to appear in heaven could so aptly be a cross.
What other symbol is so universally recognised as being a symbol of Christ?
It would certainly perplex the JW's if this was to happen!

Who is supposed to do the "Separating Work" for the new magazines?
by nochoice inso, there is a bit of a fight going on in our hall between our pioneer sisters and our magazine servant.
since the new magazines are boxed with two issues together, there is a bit of work to be done separating them.
our magazine servant stacked them on the counter as usual, right out of the box.

My cong decided the pubs are to do it.
I think there was a letter from the Soc (for real!) saying the pubs should be careful not to place two at a time.

Yeah, I've seen them tear into ElderElite.
If I can deal with the Soc, I'm sure I can deal with some posters opinions.
Besides, if someone wants to get baptised they will. Nothing I can do about it.
By being 'in' and respected I have much greater opportunities to spot and help certain ones. Successful battles are fought on many fronts.

Thought it was fitting seeing as I've baptised half the circuit over the past couple of decades. My team will be doing some more in the new year.
Hope this doesn't make me JWN public enemy number one!

Well this is the official stance:
*** w89 1/15 p.13 par.17 What Prevents You From Getting Baptized? ***
Clearly, baptism is a serious step. Baptizing an infant is wrong because a baby cannot understand, make a decision, and become a disciple. (Matthew 28:19, 20) Those baptized during Philip’s ministry in Samaria were “men and women,” not mere infants. (Acts 8:4-8, 12) Baptism is for those old enough to learn, believe, and exercise faith. (John 17:3; Acts 5:14; 18:8; Hebrews 11:6) In this regard, historian Augustus Neander wrote: “Faith and baptism were always connected with one another; and thus it is in the highest degree probable . . . that the practice of infant baptism was unknown [in the first century C.E.]. . . . That it first became recognised as an apostolic tradition in the course of the third century, is evidence rather against than for the admission of its apostolic origin.”—History of the Planting and Training of the Christian Church by the Apostles (New York, 1864), page 162.
*** w76 9/15 p. 576 Questions From Readers ***
But is the child able to make personal decisions, able to decide from his own mind and heart (not that of the parents) the course in life he wishes to take? Is he capable of comprehending and seeking a personal relationship with God, one that is not dependent upon his parents? Is he able to stand before a judicial body, accountable for any wrongdoing he may commit? If not, then such child is evidently not in position to be baptized

JW's just called
by l p inthe jws just called.
they are new to the congregation since i left in 2002/3.. they were offering a dvd for deaf people to 'learn what god requires of me".
i said there were no deaf people here.. the other guy that was just standing there asked if there were deaf people in this area.

It's a new effort to target reaching the deaf. Was a KM article about it quite recently.
