The Sopranos showed an intervention with "Chris" for his heroin addiction...it was the most effective one I've ever seen.
One of the funniest things I have ever seen on TV!
an intervention?
you know like friends and families do with members who are addicted to drugs/alcohol etc.
i've always wondered if something like that would work.

I'm sitting here at home in front the fire place, looking outside watching watching the snow fall. Not a blizzard but a pretty good snow fall for north-central Illinois. It feels great being at home on an evening like this, relaxing. I can't help but wonder how many JWs in the area were secretly hoping for a call from an elder saying that the meeting is cancelled. Makes me chuckle.
the other day when the overseer was over, he started talking about how good the cong was and how it was the best as far as publishers.
he mentioned that we only had 0 irregular, and 0 inactive publishers.
this is bs.
One of the biggest "scams" elders do is arm twisting people into turning in field service time right before the CO comes. The congregation will receive a letter from the CO saying that he and his wife will be visiting the week of such and such. So the elders then pull the publishers cards, pass them out to the book study conductors and it's there job to collect "missed" time for the months that certain publishers didn't report time. Of course, you may have some individuals who have time for 5 out of the last 6 months and may have simply forgotton to turn in time for one month. They would be considered "irregular." So the elder has them turn in time for the missing month. Then you have other people who for the past six month didn't turn in time for five of those months. The elders will hound these people. "Surely, Brother So & So you must have spoken about Jehovah to someone for at least an hour!!??!!!"." With enough arm twisting, this "irregular" simply turns in time to get the elder off his back. And PRESTO! no more irregular publishers!
Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride
Man, I wish there were more people like him around.
sassy got me thinking about how people here can just be themselves and not worry about being "found out"!
i know at the k-halls everyone is acting all holy and righteous.
but they all watch everyone else and listen to what is said to make sure that a) they are not discovered, and b) to see if the other person will "slip-up" and give their true feelings away!.
Deep down inside, almost all JW's don't really believe it. Evidence? Pass by any Kingdom Hall on a Saturday morning. A typical congregation around here (North-central Illinois) has about 100 publishers. On a GOOD Saturday there are about 20 people out in service. Now, if these JW's really, I mean REALLY believed that they were "in the last days" there would be a lot more people out. They know it's just a bunch of bs. But they've been doing it for so long that they don't even realize it.

just a few points; 1. rumslfed's diplomatic amnesia (lying) of "ABB's "wide-ranging, long-term cooperation agreement" with the communist government."Amesia? Lying? You know for sure that Rumsfeld was at the board meeting in which this topic was supposedly anounced? Also, what was he suppose to do? You make it seem that he himself went in back, built a couple of reactors and sold them to the North Koreans. What EXACTLY was Rumsfeld's job at ABB? I'm asking, I really want to know. What would you have expected him to do? Resign? Picket the company?2. reading this quote sugests rumsfeld didnt share you point of view at that particular time: "Critics of the administration's bellicose language on North Korea say that the problem was not that Mr Rumsfeld supported the Clinton-inspired diplomacy and the ABB deal but that he did not "speak up against it". "One could draw the conclusion that economic and personal interests took precedent over non-proliferation," said Steve LaMontagne, an analyst with the Centre for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation in Washington."
3. "One US congressman and critic of the North Korean regime described the reactors as "nuclear bomb factories"."
and 4. one small point about hypocrisy.
oh you think that any of that is meant to excuse clinton?????? WTF???? you think i want to excuse that asswipe? honestly. everything's 'black and white", "left and right".

The sale of the nuclear technology was a high-profile contract. ABB's then chief executive, Goran Lindahl, visited North Korea in November 1999 to announce ABB's "wide-ranging, long-term cooperation agreement" with the communist government. The company also opened an office in the country's capital, Pyongyang, and the deal was signed a year later in 2000. Despite this, Mr Rumsfeld's office said that the de fence secretary did not "recall it being brought before the board at any time".
In a statement to the American magazine Newsweek, his spokeswoman Victoria Clarke said that there "was no vote on this". A spokesman for ABB told the Guardian yesterday that "board members were informed about the project which would deliver systems and equipment for light water reactors".
Ummm....so what's your point? Who put this deal together? You make it seem that a company ran by Rumsfed sold reactors to N. Korea. This wasn't the case at all. I guess you can spin this story any way you want. It still doesn't excuse Clinton's policy to bend over for the North Koreans, resulting in them now having nukes. Again, what a great policy. Heck, Clinton should have just given them some nukes and saved himself all the paperwork.

I feel sorry for the child who lost parents and limbs due to the war...I feel more sorry for the kids forced to watch their parents tortured raped and murdered...and the parents forced to watch their children raped tortured and murdered...but that's no happening in Iraq anymore.
Anyone watch Nightline last night? I didn't see all of it but Ted Koppel in there "touring" Iraq. I was amazed seeing all the differnt, ordinary Iraqi people coming up to him to say thanks to Amercia. Don't see that on most of the news stations. I guess seeing helicopters being shot down and soldiers dying is more interesting to people.

Acting based on the current premise, the United States should be engaging in preemptive military strikes on the countries of Yemen, Syria, Iran, and North Korea amidst others. Are they? Certainly not. Don't evade that point by saying a different strategy is necessary for North Korea. If Saddam possessed WMD and was capable of using them on the United States, North Korea possesses the same ability if not moreso and can raze the entire West Coast with ballistic missiles, so they should have been first in line.
Exactly. Jump back to the early 1990's. Clinton is in office and the North Koreans are developing a nuclear weapons program. What does Clinton do? He does what most of you are saying. Clinton plays the "contain" and "appease" game. The US agrees to blackmail by agreeing to basically give the North Koreans what they ask for in return they agree to stop their nuke program. What happens? We now find out that the North Koreans never stopped their nuke program and now they have nukes. What a great plan! Hey, I know what, let's now try the same stupid plan with Iraq! Yeah, what a wonderful idea. In a few short years we can have BOTH North Korea and Iraq with nukes. Great idea!
Sheesh, don't you guys wonder why NOW Libya and Iran are agreeing to stop their secret nuke programs and let inspectors into the country? Because they know Bush isn't going to screw around. If you plan on making nukes expect to some day have the US army knocking on your door. And you know what? I give Bush high marks for doing what's right in the long run even though it's unpopular right now.

Of course, this didn't fit in with Bush's timetable for war and so they were forced to leave.I think history will ultimately judge Bush as a huge mistake. Like Reagan ... no one can be proud of having that senile old fool in charge ! We're still trying to clear up the legacy that he left us and in future years we'll have to try and clean up after Bush.
Actually, Simon, you'll find here in the US that as time goes by, Reagan is seen as one of the great presidents. I'm not sure if I believe that he was "great" meaing on the same level as Washington and Lincoln but here in the States both Rep. and Demo. alike praise him more and more. Say what you want but he was a great communicator, got the American people to again feel proud and did contribute to winning the Cold War.
Regarding Bush, well, history will tell. I wish I had more time to research all the links you listed but I did have some, simple question. Correct me if I'm wrong but you (along with many other people) believe that Bush flatout lied to the American people, right? That he knowingly said (to paraphrase) Iraq has WMD, knowing full well that they did not and used this to justify his invasion of Iraq. Now, my question. Do you really think that Bush is THAT stupid? Now I know it's easy to be silly and say "yeah" but think about it. He knew that if he made such a bold lie that he'd be called on it. That at least SOMEONE would say "hey, where the heck are the WMD????" . C'mon, you can't honestly believe he's that stupid? I mean, he could have used "lies" that were much easier to back up. He could have said "Saddam is killing his own people and is a threat to the peace in the middle east" and most Americans would have still supported him. When on earth would he need to make up such an elaborate lie?????
