Little suprises you enjoyed as a JW
by roybatty inwhen you were a jw, remember those little things that made you happy on the inside but "sad" on the outside.
for example, the meeting ending early or better yet, being cancelled.
i recall a few years back the society was pushing sunday field service.

I recall a few years back the Society was pushing Sunday field service. UG! Since we had a Sunday morning meeting, it meant going out Sunday afternoon and missing my beloved Chicago Bears. Oh the pain!!! But every once in a while no one would go out on Sunday, meaning I could go home and watch football!!!! ((grunt))
God bless those poor souls dragging themselves to the Kingdom Hall during the week. May He smite the Kingdumb Halls power lines, causing the meeting to be cancelled and allow those zombies to go home and enjoy their families.

The Meaning of Names....?
by SpiceItUp inthere are some that are obvious and then others that just baffle me to no end..... yes i am talking about your user names.... do any of you have stories behind them or are they significant for some reason or are they just a word you made up?.
mine...well its easy.... i got the nickname of spicy back in nov of last year when i dyed my hair this crazy red color and the name of the color was "spiced ginger".
the rest of it is because i love to make things more interesting---- sorta of like adding a bit of spice to the stew (hopefully i come across as that as well .

I've always found the character Roy Batty from the book / movie "Blade Runner" to be interesting. There are many hidden religious meanings in the movie as he meets and questions his maker. Sorta like JW's confronting and questioning their "maker", the WT.
Or maybe I'm just a Sci-Fi geek. lol.

Should WTS Charge Interest?
by Amazing inwhen i first became accounts servant (before the elder/ms structure) i was surprised to learn that the watchtower society charged interest on kingdom hall loans.
the rate was 3%.
typical interest rates from commercial lenders on home mortgages at the time was about 6% to 7% ... i questioned the practice, and the jw man who turned to accounts records over to me made the point that inflation was about 3% or 4%, and therefore, the soceity was merely getting back the same buying power it had when it loaned the money ... and it beat bank rates, so he saw nothing wrong with it.

A few years back I was on an elder body of a congregation that was building a new KH. It bothered me very much that the Society was charging the congregation interest on money that wasn't really theirs! It was the money given by the "brothers and sisters" worldwide to help others. I was also told that the 3 - 4 % just covered inflation and banking fees. Well, 3 - 4 % on millions of dollars sounds like a great deal to me for a non-profit organIzation. However, I have heard that the boys in Crooklyn no longer charge any interest on KH loans.

YOUNG ANOINTED has NO DOUBTS
by 11thHour ini am a young anointed, with a heavenly calling, but it is only an invitation, for " many are invited, but few chosen" matthew 22:14 .
we have to endure to the end to receive the promises, that those with "patience and faith inherit the promises.
" hebrews 6:12 .

Paedophilia Issue - why the mess?
by eyeslice inthe problem of paedophiles in the congregations has been well debated on this board.
there is general consensus that the handling of paedophiles in the congregation has been done extremely poorly.
the worst cases have been handled in an outright diabolical manner and involvement by the christian congregation has made matters worse; so much for the so-called hiding place from the wind.. .

I believe that there has been a cover-up regarding this issue but that it has snow-balled out of control. The reason? Well, I don't believe that the WT wants to protect this sick individuals but rather the WT wants to protect it's own reputation. It always comes down to "Look at how wicked other religions are but we are Jehovah's people and are clean." I know from first hand experience that Brooklyn will instruct the local brothers to do just about anything necessary to keep problems from reaching the "worldly" courts. This is why for so many years they encouraged local elders to handled these cases and not bring it before the local authorities.

JWs Assigned to Fetch Lost Sheep Here?
by HomebutHiding ini have been pondering the whys of jws who regularly, and not-so regularly post to the board.
the possibility then struck me that maybe they are assigned--have special dispensation--to associate here in order to retrieve any "misguided" or "lost" sheep and bring them back into their fold.
or are they, thenselves, on the edge, wanting the freedom we now have?

Nice post Flower. It's too bad that there aren't any level-headed people like yourself serving on the GB.

What do Americans actually really know about???
by invisible inwhat do americans in general actually really know about the big outside world outside of their own culture?.
it's certainly not just me, but for years since early childhood in fact, it has been commonly accepted by many, that americans in general are the biggest ignorant fools residing almost anywhere on the planet, yet they still do their damndest to have everyone believe what a great nation they are.
is it even beyond their comprehension how foolish they look often to the rest of the world, the fact that they have so little understanding of problems on the worldwide front?.

As a youth, I went with parents often to Europe (and other places) to visit friends and family. I've spent time in Holland, Germany, France, Belgium, the UK, Switlerland, Austria and Italy. Even went to Morroco one summer, Tahiti one winter and a few times to Taiwan. I made friends at each spot. Americans on average might not know the capital of Turkey but one wont find a more industrious and trusting group of people.
