I only regret that I wasn't more honest and vocal with other JW's about my doubts. Never, EVER again will I stick to a belief system just to keep others around me happy. It doesn't work in the long run.

For those who've left - any regrets?
by starfish422 ini left almost nine years ago at age 18; my only real regret was that i was good friends with a young brother and i never said goodbye to him, or even let him know that i was planning to leave (had to leave my parents' home secretly while they were at the meeting one sunday; they had such a hold over me that i could never have stood up to them and told them beforehand).
.
i have no other regrets about leaving; i'm am now happily agnostic and so thankful that i found the strength to break free.. anyone have any similar regrets?

Warrant to search the Kingdom Hall
by roybatty inback in the late 1980s, i recall being at one of my first elders/servants meeting with the circuit overseer.
at this meeting the co read a letter from brooklyn regarding the records kept at the kingdom hall and what to do if the police/sheriff showed up with a warrant to remove them.
if i remember correctly, we were told not to cooperate with them, to stall them and to contact the societys lawyers.

Thanks alamb, that was the one I was thinking about. I wonder if a subpoena has ever been served to search and remove documents to serve as evidence before a court?
After reviewing that letter from Brooklyn and knowing how many elders didn't exactly follow what was outlined, I'm surprised that they aren't up to their shoulders in lawsuits. -

Back in the late 1980’s, I recall being at one of my first elders/servants meeting with the circuit overseer. At this meeting the CO read a letter from Brooklyn regarding the records kept at the kingdom hall and what to do if the police/sheriff showed up with a warrant to remove them. If I remember correctly, we were told not to cooperate with them, to stall them and to contact the Society’s lawyers. Does anyone else recall that letter? I was also wondering if this has ever happened? With so many potential lawsuits hanging over the Society’s head, are the records kept at the kingdom hall a potential gold mine for those lawyers suing Brooklyn? I know that the local body that I was on kept every letter from Brooklyn along with all the judicial notes in a file cabinet in the “elder’s room.” I wonder if the Society will pull an Enron and start having these notes and letters shredded?

Can I Sue? Any Advice?
by D wiltshire ini was woundering what my chances are of suing either the elders or wt over this:.
i was df'd in another congregation not the one i went today for public meeting and wt study(what a joke those 2 meetings were).. anyway i sat directly in the front right in front of the speaker.
the reader of the wt was on my appeal committee(another joke).. as i was leaving after the final prayer the sister in back of me introduced her self and i started to talk to her after she aproached me first, right away the elder who was on the appeal committee stops the sister from talking to me by interupting our conversation and annouced to her in front of me that it was not proper for her to talk to me since i was disfellowshipped.. i then proceeded to leave out the back when as i'm leaving another brother holds out the right hand of fellowship and we proceed to share greetings at which time a different elder rudely interupts our conversation and tells the brother not to talk to me because i was df'd.. i think these elders may have violated my rights since i have never been a member of that congregtion and they by their words caused other to veiw me as evil with out proper cause.. any legal eagles can tell my options?.

Give it a rest and move on. I don't understand all these posts about people wanting to sue the congregation or the elders. Maybe the wounds are still too fresh in your mind but what exactly do you want to achieve?

How in the world would anyone know? Any estimate would be a wild guess. Most JWs don't even keep track of their time. When I was the service overseer I'd have to track done many in the congregation asking them for their time. All of them would walk to where the time slips were, take one and write something down just to get me off of their back or to not be placed on the irregular list.
Ok, I'll take a wild stab at it. I'd say based upon the above mentioned exp. and also that most JWs count breaks as service time, about 1/3 of the time reported is not spent preaching. And this doesn't even include the well know trick of doing return vists (two go the door while two or three others sit in the car). Come to think of it, if any business were run this way they'd be out of business fast. -

JW VS Apostate code words
by Imbue inevery social group develops their own code words to identify themselves with that group.this is part of the study of semiotics.
jws have many code words.then there are semiotics for apostates.

How could you forget Presiding Overseer, Circuit Overseer, District Overseer? lol. The thought of these little men with big sounding titles still makes me chuckle.

Congrats on the gold. Wow, that was an awesome game though. Thank god we had Mike Richter in goal though, otherwise it would have been a blowout!
