So is the Watchtower. But I sometimes recommend certain articles in the Watchtower for reading. I also sometimes quote JWs. What could be more convincing about what they believe than what they themselves say about it? Much more reliable than something written by, say, an angered "apostate" wouldn't you say?

By so doing he helps keep people in slavery. Slavery to an organization which has destroyed the lives of millions and taken the lives of thousands who have died following its ridiculous blood policies.

No doubt some of those who become convinced to stay in the Watchtower due to what they read in Greg's books will die in this way as a result of their deciding to stay JWs.

As a matter of fact, I do doubt it. Most JWs have never heard of him.

I believe their blood will be on Greg's hands, and on yours for promoting his books.

From what I hear, this latest book contains some rather "independent thinking". But I haven't read it yet.

Evidence against JWs' view of disfellowshipping

my father, an elder, is willing to speak with me about the society's view of disfellowshipping.

i actually think that today i put a chink in his armor about the whole thing.

(i'm very shocked, and just a bit hopeful.

i have been part of the 'alternative music scene' since i was 15. i should know backstabbers, it's part of the scene.. i was molested and shot at at 6, i remembered my abuse and the near death experience under the knife at 14, accused of being demon-possessed, prayed over and my cd's and books burnt at 15, i became an alco and depressive/agoraphobic and got in a lot of trouble with people at 15, i was accused of things i don't want to mention at the moment at 16, my own older sister stabbed me in the back and i was left homeless at 17, i received counselling for the abuse at 18, my little sister told me she had been abused for 8 years by my little brother and i had to carrying this for over a year at 22, i started studying the bible again at 23, and i have been critisized eva since for trying to better my life...... and i had to deal with family ridicule because i was 'weird, black witch/death' whateva they decided to call me at the time.

my sister was also critisized by family because she was weird.

when they found out what had happened to her, they were willing to accept her for what she was, a mixed up, miserable, alone girl.

Hello, and welcome.
I don't know what to say except thanks for the courage to tell your poignant story. Don't let the world get you down. When it gets right down to it, we all go through this life alone in one way or another. Hang in there and keep trying to do what you believe is good. If you can trust yourself, then you're your own best friend, and that's the most important thing. You'll find others, too, and know you're not really alone.

i've tried to get on kent's site with no luck.. do you have to face mecca and wave a dead chicken or what?.

i really hate it that he felt compelled to make a new site.

But some of them are still obviously addicted to your site, Simon. Even when they say they will quit, they can't. ;-)
Maybe that's why they have to demand their account be disabled (and then claim they were "DF'd").

Life Is On the Hairy Edge

got a call late this afternoon: "your daughter was in a car accident along with four other girls.

So sorry to hear about this! I know and sympathize with what a close call this was. I have a nephew who is quadraplegic from a similar accident and being thrown from a car. (You met his mother.)
As bad as this situation is, and what you and she will have to bear in the months ahead, thank goodness it wasn't worse.

Alan, you sound pretty shook. Hang in there.

Shunning is the big story

i just read the story about the family in oregon, gone forever, because of the pressure of shunning.. in my opinion, shunning is the big story about jehovah's witnesses.

shunning and the fear of shunning is what enables the control of victims of child abuse.

shunning is what destroys families.

I agree with your point, JoelBear. The SHUNNING has always been my biggest issue with the Watchtower religion. It was probably the biggest thing that made me see through "the Lie". I tend to believe that refusal of blood transfusion would be far more a matter of choice if not for the shunning sanction. SHUNNING has been the main point presented in the blood articles published by Dr. Muramoto and Lee Elder as the weapon of cohersion for obedience to this and other abominable prohibitions, even to death, of Jehovah's Witnesses. If not for the SHUNNING, I think many faced with these issues would do the old sin-now-repent-later thing.

However, although I freely admit I have no insight to all the facts in the slaughter of this family, it seems very suspicious to me as a former JW. There is no indication presented that I can see which suggests the family were still believers of the JW doctrine, and the fact that they moved away from their family secretly and without revealing their whereabouts suggests that the shunning was not their greatest worry. Family members were evidently planning to gain custody of the children. This extremism on the part of relatives suggests that their was great concern for the children's salvation in these "last days" before Armageddon. Some radical JWs firmly believe it is better to die before Armageddon so as to get resurrection for a second chance in the "new Earth" after Armageddon. It's a point to consider that I don't think investigators would think of who are not cognizant of JW beliefs, but one I think is well worth investigating considering the JW mindset.

The husband of the family may well have gone off his rocker and done this terrible thing. It just seems strange there didn't seem to be any warning symptoms that anyone could recall. There usually are in these cases. Indications seemed to be the opposite.

If the husband believed salvation was through the Watchtower--which indications are that he did not--but if he did, why not go for reinstatement? Why move far away, secretly, no one knowing where you are? How could they not be "shunned" in that case? No motive; no depression; seemingly happy family, doing well in business, children doing well in school. I'm just more suspicious about this, that's all.
