They are LYING and you know it. They even shun people who have NOT faded away. (silentlambs is but one example). Shunning is their major weapon of control and they use it in every way possible to keep the ranks in obediance. Don't even tryyy to tell me the leadership is not fully aware that their "regular publishers" class are programmed to shun people, including family, for simply becoming "inactive" in many cases. If they know it is going on and don't publish something to correct the situation, they are guilty!

It is an unmitigated, pure, bald-faced, unadulterated LIE!!!
AND THEY KNOW IT!!! No JW or exJW is so ignorant as to believe that preposterous balogne. What is amazing is how they get away with such hypocracy in view of the fact that every JW/exJW KNOWS its not true! It makes JWs "sharers in the lie" imo.

i usually find something that i dig in everybody's post around these parts.
but i'll single out some peeps in particular.
It was a little over 5 years ago that I discovered the Internet.
Like so many, even tho I had been out for years, first thing I typed into a search engine was "Jehovah's Witnesses". Wow!
First sites I saw were Kent's Watchtower Observer and JanH's All Along the Watchtower. Those two kept coming up! I was fascinated. Looked at their personal profiles with interest. Kent's page invited readers to "Post me if you want". I did. It was the first e-mail I ever sent anyone. Imagine my amazement at receiving a reply in a short time, all the way from Norway. Wow! Almost better than telephone! What fun!
Next I very cautiously posted the administrator of Jesus-Witnesses and asked about subscribing to the list. I didn't even know what that meant. To my amazement I found many of my friends already there: Jim Penton, AlanF, Kent and JanH were there, and other people I had met at BRCI.
Within one week, I read the symptoms of Internet addiction, and I had every one of them, BIG time. My life has never been the same since.
Within 6 months, I introduced my own website with its own domain, and within a year my own exJW discussion lists. It was quite a bit later that I got interested in H2O, but I found a lot of my friends already there as well.
So, for those on this list along the way, I want to thank (not necessarily in this order), Kent, JanH, AlanF, and Norm. "thanks for the memories". (Shades of Jes-Wit and Philia--and the Elders' manual <grin>) Kent was supportive of newbie-me starting Beacon website.
Later on, Amazing whom he and I discovered we had already known each other via correspondence for some years even before the Internet.
COMF for his balanced temperament.
Applause for Rick (Derrick) for his success with H2O. I don't think any other board drew as much attention from Brooklyn. I hope this one will. Thank you Simon.

In my opinion, the Watchtower Society knows VERY WELL that most householders who "take the magazines" don't read them. Especially the Watchtower. Why? Because of organizational stuff like this was about that is intended only for members. The Watchtower is full of JW stuff that Witnesses conducting "Bible" studies actually refrain from revealing to potential JWs until they are sufficiently hooked.
The door-to-door work is not to generate Bible reading, as the WTS claims, it is to sell magazines and books through a force of unpaid labor. Everything they publish is an instant "best seller" by default.

When I discovered other exWitnesses and began attending the BRCI conferences, one of the things that struck me as remarkable was the number of people JW experience involved severe child sexual abuse, both incestuous and other relatives and overseers. What's more, it was startling to learn how INVARIABLY the victims were made to feel like the guilty parties while the abomination was closeted to protect the guilty. Hosting a webpage and receiving e-mail from therein has gone on to emphasize the problem all the more.

most exjws are familiar with the claims that the gospel accounts about jesus "fulfills" around 300 prophecies in the old testament.
this claim is taken verbatim from christian fundamentalists.
checking out these so-called prophecies will reveal that they do not stand up to scrutiny.

I can't remember if your leaning is toward skepticism or not, but a couple of books I would recommend for non-fundamentalist believers were written by Fr. Bargil Pixner, a scholar in Biblical archeology and topography who lives and studies in Israel. I got mine in Israel, but I think you can order them through book distributors.
1. "With Jesus Through Galilee According to the Fifth Gospel."
Pixner's belief is that the topography of the area reveals
much for interpreting the teachings of Jesus in the Bible.
2. "With Jesus In Jerusalem."
Pixner reveals some fascinating information not found in the Bible itself, some of it revealed from the Dead Sea Scrolls and other sources, that lends to a greater understanding of some of the things thought to be contradictions in the Gospels.
I don't necessarily agree with all of Pixner's conclusions, but the information is excellent. He presents the material in a very scholarly way imo. He has a scientist's way of presenting information without drawing dogmatic conclusions, but offers his opinions and why. He reveals the thinking of up-to-date Biblical scholars, including non-Christian Jews, on these subjects that is very different from the dogmatic doctrinal stance of churchdom, even for his own denomination.
Regardless of what conclusions you may be drawn to regarding religion, its valuable information for your interest.
a significant number of former jehovah's witnesses come out of the watchtower still believing the bible and considering themselves christians.
most coming out are in a serious state of bewilderment, and they look intently and sincerely for something to fill the huge void of lost religion, lost family and friends, and lost fellowship.
they seek some viable spiritual association with others of like mind while at the same time having become very wary of any organized religion.. what is it that eventually draws so many of us (not me) to agnosticism or atheism?
