i am a member on new testament scholar bart ehrman's blog, and the professor is currently outlining a new book he is writing about false memory and the life of jesus.. an interesting post occurred today in which he gives an example of a very famous scripture,.

example of a false memory of jesus teaching i turn to a famous passage in the gospel of john, jesus dialogue with nicodemus (john 3:1-15).

nicodemus is said to be a jewish leader who comes up to jesus and affirms that jesus must come from god because of the great things that he said to have done.

I can’t claim to be an expert on the subject but I have seen a few debates between Ehrman and Daniel B Wallace and what scares me about Ehrman about is he is very similar to the Watchtower, dealing more in conspiracies than probabilities

All Christian scholars know there are a number of textural variations. Scribes aren’t photocopy machines. There are even about 20 verses that might have been just plain added. Doctrinally it doesn’t change anything. It is the 99.5 % that is the same that is more interesting than the .5 that is different.
Since we don’t have the original copies of the new testament , how do you know it wasn’t all changed ? Well that kind of logic seems to be the foundation of all so called Christian cults, the bible is the inspired word of god, expect where it was changed. If the 5000 or so 3rd century copies that are 99 % the same isn’t enough proof that it most likely wasn’t altered , nothing will ever be enough proof.

i left in the 90's and marriage partners were similar in age at my former congregation.

i ran into a former jw friend from my childhood.

My wife told me about some of the setups and blind dates she had to endurance before she went fishing outside the pond. In her mid 20 the elders would think nothing of setting her up with a man in there mid 50s. She though it was absolutely disgusting.

I had a Grandma that was 20 years younger than my Grandpa. It is not a good situation later in life. You go from husband and wife to nurse and patient.

On a somewhat related note, we have a couple in our cong that looks like Penny from the Big Bang married to comic book from the Simpsons. It is odd. At least she married in the lord.

long story short my mom was acting weird, snubbing me, when i tried bringing her grandkids to see her, so i tried again and this time i just went up and hugged her since she wouldn't hug me or acknowledge any affection.

In the Old Testament you have a plurality to god. God often refers to himself as more than one being. The Old Testament also has a number of contradictions about not being able to see or hear god, but in the Old Testament you have people who have directly seen and heard god.

Now in the Old Testament you have a figure called “the angel of the lord “which is identified as god, being with god and god’s heavenly ruler.

Contradictions??? Yes. Does anyone fully understand it ?? No.

In the new testament when john says “ in the beginning, there was the word, and the word was with god, and the word was god “, do you think the author thought of Jesus as god as an important person or do you think believes Jesus was the manifestation of god in the flesh ?? Considering the next line is “no one has seen the father only the son”…………..I think it is pretty obvious there is a belief that Jesus is the angel of the lord from the Old Testament.

Now a well trained JW is going to be all “ Well, how can that be , blah blah blah “ . I just assume there are spiritual things that beyond the realm of human understanding.

Now if you want to say the bible is complete bullshit , that is fine but the idea of Jesus existing with his father as Yahwah, Jehovah, LORD of the old testament is pretty clear.

I find once you study the bible and study the bible with the DUBs, it seems the DUBs are more on a mission to disprove the bible and they are so stupid they don’t even see it.

the biblical truths we have learnt from their presentations, in such a short period of time most definitely tip the scales compared to the truth the jw.org led me to believe i had for over 20 plus years of my life.

thanks to these videos, we have now found the truth and the truth is jesus christ (john 14:6).

What scares me the most when talking about religion and JWs is some people just legit think they are just zealous Christians.

Evangelical Christians and churches are harmless. I even attend the odd time. I find the bible interesting and have a little African baby that costs me 24 dollars a month. I even volunteer at the Salvation Army once and awhile. Its good for soul.

It sad when people leave the WTS how they miss being pricks to people. That whole sense of moral superiority . It funny how they replace it with “ look at me, I read a Richard Dawkins book…blah blah blah, me smart “ .

The part that shocked me was how uneducated the C.O and his wife was. To me getting an education from Bethel is kind of like working at McDonalds and getting a degree from Hamburger University. Not just his lack of academic schooling but just lack of practical life skills is quite shocking. Come to think of it, have never really heard of any serious academic being a JW , outside of one nutjob in Norway. Call me crazy but I don’t want to take spiritual advice from a guy who has never applied for a loan or knows how to change a tire.

The not being rude and obnoxious was quite refreshing. I come from a congregation that is quite known for its lack of humility with its BOE. They literally can’t conduct a meeting without going five minutes using the term false religion, the false religions of Christendom and worldly people. They are even known as real assholes in other congregations.

Not really sure about the blood comment. It was either we don’t kill children or don’t want our children to die. He said it was all misinformation. Bullshit, whatever he said it was a half-truth. I think it was “ we don’t want our children to die “.

The funniest part is he didn’t conduct himself in a boring as watching paint dry kind of way. You could tell he secretly watched Joel Osteen and Joseph Prince. I couldn’t help but think you f-ing fake.

Baptism talk. Old lady gets up a talks about the opposition she faced from family when she started to study with the witnesses. All I could think was what a total load of bullshit, try studying with other Christians or going to another church and see what happens. A former South Korean brother talks about his jail experience, All I remember was hearing about how 21 christians were beheaded in Libya by ISIS listening to CBC that morning. Never hear about that in the KH.
C.O and wife get up give life story. Both had never ever had a job , pioneering since leaving high school. I would be absolutely ashamed to admit that. 40 years old and never worked a day in his or her life.
Makes a few odd statements. Tells people to respectful of other peoples beliefs. Never mentions the magical men in Brooklyn. Tells people that the average person is misinformed about the JWs. One objection we get is we let our kids bleed to death instead of getting blood transfusions and nothing could be further from the truth. Never explained himself after.
Lunch hour some kid comes up and talks to me , real young dumb and full of cum. Since I don’t wear a tie, asked if I was a witness and asked if I believe Jesus and Jehovah are the same person. I ask him who he thinks “ the angel of the lord “ in the old testament is ? Then ask him what he thinks of some of the contractions in the old testament about who has seen or hear god ??
Ask him if he as ever read the book of John in the new testament ? I ask him if knows what a Theophany is and how it can be a deity ?? Little shit then walks away in the middle of my questions. He really though he was going to blow me away with “ Did you know God has a name and it is Jehovah “ .
Day ends with a Bethel speaker. Guy takes dull and boring to a whole different level. I walk out during the shunning part of the talk. Elder/Security wants to know why. I reply “ this is unclean “. You should have seen the look on his face.

you have to lead a secret life as a jw.

you're not supposed to over drink, go to night clubs, enjoy worldly concerts, etc.....sex, though is really taboo.

you could never freely talk about your sex life.
