how's it been for you this week?
feeling a bit jaded, a little worn perhaps?
why not put your feet up with a nice cuppa or even a glass of good red wine, and count your blessings!

according to the guardian newspaper february 9th there is an article re: "museums fight to keep tax loopholes".
"the piece of tidying up by the treasury, barely noticed in the chancellor's pre-budget statement in december, is estimated to lose the museum sector 10 million pounds per year.. this appears to work by visitors, agreeing to make a donation equal to the admisssion fee, and in return they were nominally admitted free...thus enabling the museums to recover the tax on the "gifts i.e.
donations, ".

According to the Guardian newspaper, this is a small, obscure tax concession which the government are proposing to abolish.
Does anyone know if this thinking ( which may come out in the spring budget (UK) ) could have any effect on the way that the WT Organisation, can use the tax system to recover tax on donations.

i have finally confirmed that my parents da'd about 2 years ago.
they haven't told me or talked to me about it.
i found out through my aunt, and confirmed it through my oldest brother who was just visiting them.. it's a big step in the right direction.
Thats wonderful news. Wishing you all the best for the days ahead. We were in the Org for over thirty years and have been out for about 2 years now, and we are still angry about all the wasted years. We talk about the cult every day!

i am sure this has been asked before -- but has anyone here every spoke to ray franz or email him.
if so i would like to email him or call her.
After we had finished reading Ray's books, we wrote to him, but did not really expect a quick response - well we had a letter back from him within 10 days (from USA to England) - It was so kind of him and we very much appreciated it.
Around about the same time, we wrote to the London Bethel to request answers to our concerns (UN etc.) and also asked two local elders for answers too. well, we are still awaiting their responses and that's getting on for two years ago now !

it was during the drought when alberta and sask were in bad shape for hay.my husband was promised 100 bales (this was before the drought).when my husband was ready for the hay the elder said he couldnt have any ,in the field there were trucks picking up hay which he sold for double the price.so here we were with no promised hay to feed 32 horses.does anyone else have a story?
When some repair work was being carried out on the Kingdom Hall, a young man (who had just started to have a bible study with the witnesses) came along to offer his help with the work, and one of the elders told him that only baptised brothers (and sisters) could be used to help with the repair work !! Result - this young man never came back to the Hall and discontinued his bible study. Looking back on the whole situation, this mean action did him a real favour!!

have you ever had a point in your life, where you get too much information.
have you ever felt that you were better off not knowing certain things?
sometimes i think if a person gets too much information, it can cloud their judgement on things.
Hey - what's going on here, I thought I was twinkletoes ??

when i was a jw -i heard gary botting being interviewed on radio (-he was not da or df) for writing this book -so i read it.... one of the sisters told me ( her hubby was an elder) i had been marked for reading it.
imagine my surprise when i read this weekend that his wife (heather)who wrote it with gary.
is now a pagan chaplain at the university of victoria she will lead dozens of students through a series.
Sorry Mouthy - who is Gary Botting ? What was the book he wrote ?

i've already exited the jws in mind and heart, and have read many comments from everyone about the book, so didn't really see the need to buy it for myself.
however, after reading something here on the forum, i decided to order it (and the tao of pooh and siddhartha.
) a super-dub sits two desks away from (she and her husband knew ray and his wife, had tea with them in their room when he was on the gb, etc.
So glad that you are reading this book. The eye-opening information in Ray's book was the last straw for me and my husband ! We left the JWs after 30+ years of belonging to the cult !
Ray deserves every penny (or dime) he receives, he's a true christian in my opinion, and I recommend his books to everyone.
We bought both of his books not only for ourselves but also for some friends (now ex-JWs) they couldn't put the books down, and stayed up late every evening until they had finished reading them.

anything in particular, or was it a combination of things??
?
Discovering the hypocrisy about the UN involvement - just couldn't believe it at first !! It took one whole year to verify all the information, along with other falsehoods, 607bce etc. Then the final straw was reading Ray Franz's books.
We always felt that the problems within our congregation were the elders, but always made excuses saying it probably wasn't too bad in other congregations - that was until we came on this board and realised just how widespread the problem really was.

.....in life?
do you still have hope?
are you truly much happier?
So much better, although I don't know what I believe in anymore.
One of the good things, since coming out of the JWs after 32 years, is that I have been in touch with two of my friends from my school days and we have met a couple of times recently,(they still live in Manchester and I am in Hereford (UK)). Its been over 40 years since I last saw them and it now seems as if we were never apart. One had been studying with the witnesses, and so I was able to shed some light on the UN, paedophiles etc. She doesn't study with them anymore !
During the years as a witness, I took on board the admonition - what sharing does light have with darkness, and bad associations spoil useful habits.......this was the reason for not keeping in touch with friends who were "wordly", but I have now realized that they are much better christians than all the so called JW friends who now shun me.
