  Staying Awake Or Keeping In A Frenzy?

  we ex-jws know very well how much the watchtower society put us under pressure to believe that "armageddon is just around the corner".

  they've been doing it in one form or another ever since charles taze russell began publishing his nonsense.

  in 1877 he advocated that true christians should believe that christ would "take them home" in 1878. when that didn't happen he moved the event up to 1881. after that he focused on 1914.. the society is still doing pretty much the same thing, building up expectations and then revising them, decade after decade.

  Thank you, Alan. I didn't realize how much I missed your posts until I found this one. As always, great research.

  Not too long ago, I had mentioned on another board that the Society was pushing the limit, more or less, with their current comments that "some of the remnant" will still be alive when the "end" comes. I had mentioned that most of these people were quite elderly and that there wasn't much time left. The JW who responded made the comment that "everyone knows that the man's lifespan is 120 years," which was, needless to say, news to me.

  So, that "lifespan" coupled with the "replacements" for the anointed, who, in many cases are in their 50s or 60s could keep the machine rolling along for quite some time....with all its hyper-vigilant little riders still in a state of "urgency."

  back when i was a member of the borg, wit.net was my favorite site.

  it was sorta like this one, only you heard the same, boring fluff all the time (until obie put in the mature subjects board, thanks man!).

  i'm wondering who else used to be a regular poster there?

  i have been researching the greyhound breed.

  does any one have a italian greyhound or greyhound?

  my application is in for a retired or rescue dog.

  Two dogs--a 20-lb Pomeranian and a Welsh Corgi. Eight cats--two were ferals that I tamed, two are Maine Coons, and the rest are rescues. Two chinchillas. Two fish. Three finches. Three horses--one Peruvian Paso, a Buckskin, and a rescued Thoroughbred.

  WT Doctrine - Only Loyal Ones Can Pray?

  this is in the january 5, 2003 study, "keep on serving shoulder to shoulder" from the november 15, 2002 watchtower: .

  the apostle paul wrote: "i desire that in every place the men carry on prayer, lifting up loyal hands, apart from wrath and debates" (i timothy 2:8) paul thus associated loyalty with public prayer "in every place" where christians meet together.

  only loyal men should represent the congregation in public prayer.. first of all, could a veteran xjw confirm with me that this means what i think it means - that the wts deems who is worthy to pray publicly?

  As far as individuals praying, only those in an "approved relationship" with Jehovah supposedly have their prayers heard by him, according to what I remember of JW doctrine. So you had to be accepted by the congregation, otherwise your personal prayers don't even count !! But of course, Jehovah makes exceptions for certain non-believers, when they're praying for the "truth" to come -- and then of course the angels direct a member of the "only true Christian organization(tm)" to that person by the next morning. nyuk, nyuk.

  Yep, this is absolutely true. I remember that when I initially became inactive, I was afraid to even try to pray. I just KNEW that my prayers wouldn't be heard because I was inactive.

  I was really surprised, then, when a lot of things were happening in my life and I prayed....expecting nothing, but just needing to talk about what was going on, and God seemed like the logical choice....and I felt a tremendous sense of calm, and got the answers I was seeking. Once again, the JWs lied to me.

  Ahem! I not only posted on Witnet, but I was appointed as a moderator for a short while. I was CoolWater over there, and tried very hard to keep my opinions on the "right side of the tracks"....but with a twist. I was suspected of being an apostate by none other than Jane, herself, and she used to send me lots of PMs asking about my feelings toward the FDS and the Society. Theorcratic warfare, anyone? I never lied....I just never gave her the ammo she wanted.

  I used to post on Kent's old board, and a few hints that Obed gave on that board from time to time made me suspect that he was slowly going over to "the dark side."

  I learned about this board from one of Obed's posts. When I started posting here, several spies must have been checking IP addresses, because they began asking questions as to whether or not my persona here was the moderator CoolWater there. Squeaked through, though, and never got booted. I DID, however, get booted from Obed's orginal board.
